Road to 50K:

I love your eyes, my darling friend,
Their play, so passionate and brightening,
When a sudden stare up you send,
And like heaven-blown lightning,
It’d take in all from end to end.
But there’s more that I admire:
Your eyes when they’re downcast,
In bursts of love-inspired fire,
And through the eyelash goes fast
A somber, dull call of desire…

I can see the passion and the effort that you put in your video and in general in the list, while simultaneously focusing on movies from 21st century. I can understand that it is a more "personal" list than for example "the 100 best movies of all times" and I really admire it, although most of the movies that you used would not ever in my list. But, you have directors like Angelopoulos, Miyazaki, Kubrick who are my most beloved ones, so thanks again for this video!

This is so beautifully made, and has definitely given me a few films to add to my watch list. And I was so happy to see Maborosi at number 1, I've never met anyone else who loves that film as much as I do. It might be my number 1 too, although Stalker and Kiki's Delivery Service are pretty close.

Honestly, I’ve never heard of Maborosi or Kore-eda before seeing this video, but I decided to give it a try. And yeah. It was the most impactful thing I’ve ever watched. Just in the first 5 to 10 minutes I could already tell that this will be so unlike anything else I’ve seen before, and how much I’ll love it. It’s just this way of presenting the story, the wide angle shots from far away, amazingly slow pace, lack of dialogue, it’s all just so masterfully done.

@@AndreasIreland - Well, not sure what you are into. I can offer up a few from a few that are not mainstream. These three films are from my favorite filmmakers: Another Earth (sci-fi), The East (drama), and I Origins (kind of sci-fi, romance, drama). Mike Cahill, Brit Marling, and Zal Batmanglij all met at Georgetown and collaborated on several projects after graduation. The series The OA is another from them.

Force Awakens? At 21. Oh God. I recall not seeing any of Scorsese’ filmography apart from Silence which is probably my least favourite that I’ve seen from him. It was refreshing to see a good amount of foreign film in there, especially Kuroasawa. There also seemed like a good portion of your choices were relationship based.

i’ve only seen a couple of the movies in this video but they for sure changed my life. I carry the experience of seeing them with me every day. Of course not always in my mind, but always with me somehow. That qualifies as changing a life, doesn’t it? also the title is “100 movies that changed MY life”, not “100 movies that will change YOUR life”. Everyone experiences movies differently with different perspectives so a movie can be life changing for one person and not for another, but i think that’s pretty amazing

@@garyb2392 - You said, "So I’m assuming the person is young." You sound like a geriatric with his stick up his ass. "OK, Boomer" is a pejorative aimed at people stuck in the past thinking their world was better. So listen up, Boomer: most of the best films came out in the 2000s. The older films were misogynist, had racist tropes, had primarily white men in all production decisions, and did NOT reflect the art of humanity. Is that better, gramps? You asked for "More than two words together." So there you go! What a great slaying of the paper dragon (you). [before you cry, remember that you started the agism by saying "I'm assuming the person is young." So you just earned that slaying. Better be more thoughtful next time!] This public service announcement is brought to you by Good Will Hunting. He's bringing his kill home.

@@nathanakpe4897 I disagree Japanese movies haven't always been good, especially not Japanese movies of the last 20 years. A big complaint about Japanese live action movies but especially Japanese live action TV shows is that they're too melodramatic or feature overacting that can lean towards cringe. That's why a lot of Asians and Westerners that like Asian media prefer Korean live action movies & TV show, their acting is more natural, closer to Americans and Europeans.
