I would have had Chaplin's The Kid in there somewhere. Was pleased Birth of a Nation wasn't on the list.

Birth of a Nation...ugh...unfortunately, purely from a technical standpoint, the film was a breakthrough in filmmaking.

I've seen 95 of the 100 movies listed. My favorite movies on the list are: Casablanca, All About Eve, The Maltese Falcon, Rear Window, All the President's Men, and The Sixth Sense. The first movie I ever saw at the theater when I was 4 or 5 years old was #100 - Ben Hur. I also loved horses so the chariot races really got my attention.

@@TheMovieLoversCorner Back in the day everyone went to see just about every movie. They sometimes stayed in neighborhood theaters for years. Either that or I made an effort to see all the classic movies.

Because it's opinion-based and some critics changed their opinions.

On ne m’otera pas de l’idée qu’il y a une bonne part de snobisme dans ce classement : 12 hommes en colère en 87e position, c’est du grand n’importe quoi !

I kind of get your point. This list was curated by critics, filmmaker, film historians, etc., so it's a somewhat insular group. Check out my video on the imdb 250 top movies chart. There's a much wider array of films rated by folks just like us.

I stopped looking at #30. If Sunrise is not even in the top 30 the AFI can flush this ,list. It should be in the top 5 for sure.

@@sopwithsnoopy8779 On all the most prestigious lists like Cahiers du Cinema and Sight and Sound it is usually in the top 5. Made in 1927 and still sublime today .Murnau was a VERY great director.

As much as I find the concept of the list itself laughable I find your insistence that this or that movie has to be at least in this or that spot on it equally laughable. What's the point of the list if certain movies HAVE to be in the Top 5. Who decides? It's subjective, all of it.

Heard of them all, probably seen 85/90% of them. I would agree with many, but not all, some missing i think should be there, and others i would not have on there. No surprise to see only 1 film from this century on there, just highlights how much the quality of cinema has declined, due to their agenda etc.

Has nothing to do with "agenda". Such lists always have more old than new movies on them because the critics feel more secure in their judgement of older movies. Take a masterpiece like "Room" (2015). It's better than many films on this list but it's just "too new".
