So awesome. Really enjoying the journey. I don't know what you're talking about, this looks amazing, especially as a solo dev on evenings and weekends! I'm so impressed. But I also have so many questions! What's your gaming industry day job? Which did you learn first, programming or art? Why did you choose roguelike? Why did you choose the Civil War? Is Endeavor the final title? The assets look so good and the concepts sound really fun and like a really unique blend. I'm personally not a fan of roguelikes or Poker, but the combination sounds like a real uncompromised passion project and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Haha thanks! I currently work as an artist at a game dev company, I've been with them for a few years. I learned art first technically, I spent several years in the film/VFX industry where I learned a lot of the art stuff, but I've always loved making/playing video games so I slowly but steadily transitioned to coding so that I could combine the two I chose rogue-like because they are some of my favorite styles of games to play. I especially like ones that fit more into "rogue-lite" where I don't feel extremely punished for losing in the game. I chose civil war, because of the story for the game. There are very specific story beats that lend itself well to that era. Plus I feel like most indie devs make games that are based around a "fantasy" genre, and I wanted to try and stick out a little more. Endeavor is currently the working title, but who knows it could change in the future :)
I like how positive and excited you are! You transmit that energy to others. The game looks very good, impressive actually when you have that much responsibility. Keep working on it when you can and keep on making videos about it’s progress.

Thank you so much for the comment, It's comments like this that amp me up and help me to keep going. I'm planning on releasing one longer video each month to show progress of the game. So There should be a new one in about a week :)
I’d say this is tremendous progress for a 100 day side project. Others work for years and fizzle out at some point.

Thanks! Part of the reason I started this series publically is to force myself to commit to a project like this 😅
As I said, underrated. I don't even think I need to tell you to keep going. You will be unstoppable.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Here's to hoping I can make it happen.
You are NAILING aesthetics! I like the camera view. I feel like I'm looking at toys. I want to play with them. Questions.... will there be horses? More importantly, can we FISH?
@LastEmberGames
Ай бұрын
Thanks! Horses are definitely something I've thought about, they were so important in that era that it would feel near criminal to not include them. Still working out how that would affect the overall game, but it's something I definitely want to do. and yes, 100% there will be fishing :D
Can't wait to play, Zeb! It's looking really good so far.
I personally think that's an impressive achievement for 100 days. I would argue anyone who is questioning your progress likely hasn't made a single thing before and only watches other people make stuff on youtube... ;) Great job, I look forward to seeing the future progress... :)

Thanks for the awesome comment! I agree with you. It’s easy to think I’m going slow when (x) popular KZread game dev makes a video like “I made this Extreme MMO in 1 day!” Or other content designed to make it seem like they’ve done the impossible
This is awesome! Lotsa creative ideas. Really enjoyed following along and will continue ;)

Awesome! Thanks for watching!
That looks cool, Zeb! Can't wait to try it out! I'd be happy to try that vertical slice. Love the idea for the setting too, I haven't heard of many games with that setting, and certainly not an RPG style game. Keep it up!

Alex! Thanks a ton, I defintiely want to have a bunch of my friends try it out when it's ready. Fun fact, this idea spawned from the game nights we used to have!
I like this, subscribed and keep going!

Thanks!
Very Cool stuff! I love the look of the game. I like the ambition to put a bunch of unlikely features into a roguelike. I am excited to see where this goes as a dev myself!

Thanks! I want to make a game very familiar to LoZ fans, but I also really care about making something that can stand on it's own two feet.
You did really good for only 100 days keep up the great work man

Thanks! Its really easy for me to feel like I haven't done enough in the time that I've been working. These kinds of videos help me realize that I've actually done a lot haha
GG on the progress! I'll totally get this, but only if one of the upgrades available is unlocking T posing, orb shooting ghost mode!

Progress like this, next to a full time job and especially next to a family is insane! Hats off mate, don't give up and this is a succes story in the making. Very fun setting, clearly based on personal passion for a particular game type. Can't wait to see more!

Thanks I appreciate the compliment! I just want to make a good game, whether it’s a success or not (or even if it’s good or not) is yet to be seen haha. My hopes is that I can build a small community of likeminded people to help me make it good, through feedback and play testing :)
Hey this is coming along great! I'm in the same boat when it comes to limited time after work and on weekends to get my game done, and I think you're doing fantastic. keep it up! And good job on the video.
you deserve more subs

I will definitely invite people when it’s ready to do some testing :)
Hey Zeb! Sure, I'll hop on this journey with ya! Interesting point about doing things contrary from what every dev tells you in 2024. The game does look way too good for a prototype, but on the other hand, the game looks damn good! Good luck with that, dude. Looking forward to the procedural dungeon generation especially...
@LastEmberGames

I appreciate you joining in on the ride! Haha yeah, they all have valid points, I would say in general making nearly 100% of your own assets on a game as a solo developer is seen as a bad idea, but I really have a vision for the style of graphics that the game needs among other things
Are you hoping to make the dungeons system before the map system? I think... it would be better to make handcrafted dungeons, with a twist of like a secret randomized area like a secret path you could use but it would be harder. This idea might be easier to implement just because its easier to test (in theory)
@LastEmberGames
2 күн бұрын
So yeah, I keep using the term randomized dungeons because that's what people are most used to hearing when I say "procedural generation", but the story of the game itself and the reason dungeons are a tad randomized have meaning, and isn't there just for the sake of a fun buzz word or mechanic. Though they are randomized, they will still feel a bit more structured than other roguelikes like moonlighter or enter the gungeon. at the end of the day I want them to feel more like a Zelda dungeon. You'll see what I mean hopefully by September when I am finished with the vertical slice of the game :)
This looks really awesome! Are you planning on creating a discord server for this project? I’d love to hangout and chat.

Hey I actually already have a small one, where I put out smaller updates to the game. Sometimes daily/weekly depending on how busy I am. In the future it is also where I'll hold play tests :) discord.gg/4QGkcPjqpG
You are overpowered. 😂

Plz make the MC a not happy guy but in a cute way. Maybe with facial hair too.

Haha yeah he won’t always be so happy, I’ll add facial animations soon. There will also be facial hair options you can add to your character eventually.
