100 Days Free | Josh

Arriving in Australia at age 13, Josh spent many years using drugs and cooking meth before a judge put him away for 18 years. His release from prison in Australia saw Josh deported back to New Zealand under the 501 scheme, away from his children and having to find a new support network for himself. Determined to start a new life and reunite with his kids, this is the story of his first 100 days free.

Very proud of this man. To see his aura of adulation upon receiving work, then furthermore achieving his goal of seeing his family...is priceless. Well done Sir.

An excellent article. I made me realise so many things about the needs of a father and the pain that 501 deportation creates.A very powerful and moving piece.

Lovely story and amazing work from Josh to adjust back into civilian life and find a job so quickly after being in prison and away from New Zealand for so long. Based on this I can't understand why the Australian government would deport someone like Josh who appears to be rehabilitated and keen to contribute to society again? Especially when his children are back in Australia.

@@puppysoda7062 nothing, I'm not excusing what he did to end up prison but he has clearly done his time and wants to get his life back on track so why make that so much harder?

Great piece of story telling. Definitely challenged my existing opinions and thoughts. I wish the very best for Josh, and hope he can succeed in NZ, and be a great father to his kids. I also greatly admire what the support workers do, incredibly tough work.

Another great video in this poignant series. Wish him all the best his heart is in the right place. Life is just a few small often lucky decisions to be where he is or not, which is why this series is so real and raw. Again wish him all the best of luck.

It takes courage for anyone to open up. And I agree with you Josh, in not wanting that generational cycle to repeat itself. Thank you NZH for sharing this story on behalf of Josh! I watched the whole video and I usually never watch the whole videos uploaded on KZread ❤ Welcome back to NZ btw hope you prosper in life for the rest of your life especially with your relationship with your kids. It sounds like that’s what matters to you the most, your relationship with your kids. Kia Kaha bro ❤

That’s an insight Josh. It’s not easy getting a decent job here, stay surrounded with good, honest, hard working people - while also striving for greatness yourself. You have your kids to motivate you. You can do it Josh 🫶
