Rejected In Uganda’s Bride Market 🇺🇬

🇺🇬 GO TO SAILY.COM/BANK... AND USE CODE BANKRUPT TO GET AN EXCLUSIVE 15% OFF YOUR FIRST PURCHASE. AND THANK YOU TO SAILY FOR MAKING THIS TRIP POSSIBLE.
🇺🇬 Part Two: Well I left the capital city of Kampala and headed south on a long journey across Uganda where I eventually found a bus station which doubled as a flashy watch market and also a place where locals introduce you to women to marry. Unfortunately nobody wanted. Join me...
🇺🇬 Regarding raising money for the school. I will post about it on my Instagram @realbaldandbankrupt when Ben releases his video about the school next Monday. If anyone wants to throw $5 in it will be appreciated by those little shoeless future porridge drinkers.
Check out ‪@BackpackerBen‬ for his version of events and what happened when I left him in the hotel.

Mzungu in the context of Ugandans especially in Bantu ethnic communities of East Africa or parts of Southern Africa means Wonderer as some have mentioned. However, it is not meant to be racist but a term for foreigners with lighter skin. It was adopted especially when Europeans arrived at the coast of East Africa and fearing the locals, they would try to get their way into the interior without proper guides. They would walk in circles and find themselves back to the point where they started their journey having lost track. Another belief is that because of the language barrier the European explorers or Missionaries couldn't communicate their intentions of visiting native communities and the natives decided to call them wonderers aka Mzungu (singular) or Bazungu (Plural) as people who are just wondering around without a proper plan. For centuries the MZUNGU term has been adopted for a foreigner with lighter skin colour than the locals are used to.

The people were also just simply the best, so friendly and welcoming, inviting me into their homes. Lots of memories I'll never forget, like holding an AK-47 while our guide forded us across a muddy river filled with crocs (first time I've held a firearm!), being told life jackets only drag out your inevitable death on a boat since the crocs or hippos will kill you, best take your chances trying to swim to shore or drown quickly... and I could go on. Uganda is always in my heart, and even seeing this video like a 13 years after I was there it's changed so much.
