Deported from New Zealand: Ex-criminals and Gang Members Sent to Tonga

Ойын-сауық

In Deportees of Tonga: Gangsters in Paradise, VICE embeds with four Tongan nationals who have been sent back to the tiny island nation where they were born after serving prison time in New Zealand and the United States. Former gang members, they often struggle to reconnect with the culture, the language, and the people. They are haunted by the stigma of their criminal pasts, which casts a pall over their employment prospects and puts a barrier between them and their compatriots. Government support for returnees is non-existent, wages are low, and with Tonga in the midst of a methamphetamine crisis, the temptations to revert to the lives of crime they hoped to leave behind when they left prison are high.

Amazing story telling. You never hear a journalist's voice asking and interpreting for the audience. You simply hear people telling their stories. And that's more than enough, it's powerful. Thank you Vice Asia for such a sensitive presentation.....

First guy was an American deportee. But it doesn't surprise me that Australia didn't want whatever guy you referring to back. These cunts tried to deport a man who was born in PNG to a PNG mother & Australian Aboriginal father who moved the family to Queensland when they were little. Luckily through media spotlight they dropped it & released him but it took almost 2 months to happen. The audacity of the Australian government trying to deport someone who's bloodline runs tens of thousands of years deep in this country!

This is one of the reasons that I no longer will fight anyone, and I avoid physical confrontation pretty much at all costs. All it takes is one punch, and your life as you now know it is GONE. That quick, and in a flash. A good friend of mine (An Attorney) told me about someone that he represented. He said that a fight had ensued (over a female, of all things) and that his client had hit the man just one time. The guy hit his head on the curb, and he died. On a plea deal his client got 14 years. He's still in jail at this moment. He'll probably be out in 5,6 years but his life is pretty much OVER. He won't be able to get a decent job because nobody will hire anyone with a felony record. It's sad, and all because he just could not walk away.
