The Reoffenders Who Can't Stay Out of Jail (Part 1/2) | Rule Britannia

Ойын-сауық

Watch Part 2: • The Young Criminal Reo...
In this episode of Rule Britannia, VICE meets "Saky's Finest"-a gang of young reoffenders based on the Saxton Road estate in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Locked into a cycle of reoffending and going to jail, some of these guys have spent so much of their childhood in Young Offenders' Institutes that they'd rather be back inside than in the real world.
20-year-old Coopz is looking at a serious stretch in adult jail after being recently bailed in connection with the attempted robbery of a local shop. Ross and Nathan, who at 27 are considered the "olders" of the group, both try to stop him from going down the same paths they did.
We also meet Pitts, arguably the most institutionalized member of the gang, who has only seen the outside world for a matter of weeks in the last six years. Now out, he just wants to have fun, get pissed and fight-as well as settling an old score with Reggie, the local store owner, for something that happened 12 years ago.

I mean if hes already going to jail for it, that means hes been convicted of it. They're just dumbasses who scream "free my guy" when hes a pedophile who's raped 100 children and beat 100 women...back in the days free my guy was what u did when they didnt have evidence against u and you bring all your friends to convince them to let u free. Now whenever anybody goes to jail, even for stealing a fucking bike "free my guy! Fuck 12 fuck the feds!"

It’s sad cause I grew up in an environment where we were raised in a way that prepared us to expect to die young or end up in prison......no guidance, no one to point you in the right direction.....these kids are a product of the lack of structure in their lives. In the beginning I didn’t care about serving prison time, it was a badge of honor of sorts.....after serving a 9 and a half year sentence I realized the faults in my way of thinking and made changes and found myself looking back at every time I pretended not to give a fuck with a mind full of regret and shame. This kids will change once they are middle aged and struggling to find gainful employment. I hope for their sake they make changes before they waste away the most important years of their lives or lose them all together. Crime does not pay, it only costs you......your freedom, life and loved ones!

That was the scene that made me realize that people like this, even though they are biologically human, are pretty much at a 'beast' or animal-like level mentally. See what happened there was what happens quite often in packs of animals with the leader making a point and sending a message as to who's the 'alpha'. The hugging and kissing at the end is the 'you're with the pack, but don't try to take my spot' stuff. Also I think they are probably atleast secretly bi. A bit too much kissing and touching each other for my tastes.

So when I was a teenager in the American northeast in the late '90s, I got reeaally into British music because the shit in our country was such garbage and Britpop was raging. I totally wanted to live in England, and several years later I went to New Zealand, "married" a British citizen and moved to his brother's house in Southampton. Mostly we just didn't want to officially break up because of a visa issue. Within my very first week in the UK, I remember walking through the council estates to the local grocery store, it was a Sainsburys, and I just was like "...Holy shit, this place is a wasteland." It was the most profoundly depressing place I've ever been, you just get the impression there is this great sucking black hole at the center of society and people are filling it with everything and anything they can. You really get the sense that there is this cultural vacuum in the wake of their post-WWII era of greatness and there is this profound sense of "nothing is at the center here." It was such a strange and crushing experience.

You can't go a day without hearing a fat, middle-aged man moan about foreigners, but you never see him discriminating against those he says he hates. HIC, first-world country with everything people need and want; freedom (to an extent), but nobody's ever happy with the way stuff is.

Being a 7 year old girl and forced into an arranged marriage and taken out of school to live with a 60 year old man is a lot worse than this. And thankfully that can't happen in Britain. There are way more depressing circumstances than this. Being forced to be a child soldier, human trafficking, school shootings, no school at all. These guys are not so tragic compared to children born into such bad poverty that their parents think it's better for them to be forced into underage marriages than try to go to school.

Welcome to Britain. The people featured on here are called CHAVS. They mainly consist of groups of teenagers - young adults who wear cotton trackie bottoms and matching grey hoodies. Hoodies is also term used by dear old bats who don't like the noise of their 'Bloody loud and stupid' mopeds with huge L's on the front.

The comments are something else on this one. There is absolutely something to be said about the perspective to be gained watching these things and being able to learn, comprehend and grow for anything. As to that, this can be unpacked more extensively than I'll choose to do yet I can speak to some. I see that they need hope. Encouragment. A clear, attainable path to betterment would be a step in the right direction. In jail, prison and in the streets at this level, there is a clear hierarchy and a clear way to climb it for the men and woman in the group alike. When faced with no way to climb higher in society, no path that's clear or otherwise than seperate structures will form and in this group it's easy to see how to climb that ladder for these young men. It's common all around the world, in every culture. I don't know Britain legal precedence very well but in the states it is very hard to find meaningful and lasting employment so when they do they tend to stick to it. This creates a difficult cycle, regardless if you're a hardened criminal or someone who fell into a single crime or someone who had great potential but was picked up young when people are least capable of impulse control and have very little relative knowledge. There are an incredibly large amount of ways to get on the wrong side of any legal system and we're no exception. When you are then barred from a majoritive structure like finding a good job, working hard enough to buy a home and a nice car and insofar as societal preference here. Most structures place this with money, lower class, middle and upper. It's hard to find a place to rent failing a background check, gainful employment to pay the rent of the apartment they won't let you into anyway. Alot of places do hire people convicted of all levels of crimes but the heavy majority doesn't. Leaving many young people unable to climb in the ideal hierarchy for any society and individual. We could look at this as a society as a duty of the embettered to better our society by doing so for a large number of people here and as mentioned seemingly theirs of people who feel the need to turn toward criminality by allowing them a seat at the big table. Here, if a company openly refused to higher someone based on prejudicial bias they face legal punishment while to do so openly for someone who was charged with 1 felony 25 years ago isn't wrong in any way. I personally think we could do better as people. As they say, look at any groups incarcerated and desolate and you will understand the group for what it is

This nails british working class towns to a t, its a lot worse then this in cities and bigger estates but for a small town this is extremely typical, The only place you don't see much of this is middle class residential areas but even then you get the odd case. Britan isn't as bad as some countries for sure but it aint half scummy and people will do anything and i mean anything to fuck shit up.

Abingdon isn't even a working class town. Some areas are shit, some are really really posh. It's only a few miles from Oxford after all. And please don't generalise the working class like that, I'm from a working class family and I live in abingdon... And I'm currently studying at the queen's college in oxford (not trying to boast but I mean seriously), not... you know... being a chav :/

To everyone about to say weed is to blame for these idiots please hear this first: I have smoked since I was 18 but I have never physically harmed anyone or stolen anything. 12 years later I have a lovely wife to be, house, job, and sports car.
