The Jersey Shore of England (Documentary)

Ойын-сауық

There are more gyms and tanning salons per head in Liverpool than anywhere else in the UK. We meet the eccentrics that define Europe's capital city of beauty, including: tan-obsessed Carolyn, who's willing to inject herself with chemicals to darken her skin, Liverpool's "King of Bling", a celebrity hairdresser, and many more.

I've studied media and commercial media and had to drop out because it was making me feel nauseous once I learned all the disgusting secrets and tricks when it comes to body image. They once forced me to make an ad and literally said 'you're not making the viewer feel bad enough about themselves'. Another gem was when I edited a photograph and they said 'this woman looks too real, people will think they are fine the way they are and won't buy the product, more photoshop.' I didn't want to be part of an industry that makes people feel incompetent, ugly and like crap to make money of of them. When I talk about the experience to friends they always think I'm overreacting when I say just how powerful the media is. I want them to see this documentary, with actual delusional people who look in the mirror and see a ghost of themselves instead of their actual selves, and I want them to tell me again I'm overreacting and that the media isn't one of the most powerful things in this day and age.

That is so true! But the blame, in my opinion, should also be shared by the people themselves. You need to understand when you are being used and effed over for money. And you have to love yourself.

Ingrid Morbid M0oranshi Thank you for analyzing the documentary this way. I was very sad watching it, realizing how much these people were under influence and creating such an emulation to feel even worse. I became depressed when I saw that the comments were only criticizing their accent, their looks or calling them whores. You made me happy when I saw that some were understanding what it was all about and feeling empathy. M0oranshi, please talk more about your experience in the media industry. It is precious to all of us to understand what happens on the other side. There is no such thing as overreaction when it concerns objectification using advertisement.

Ingrid Morbid blame the ones who did not help that teenage girl to overcome these stereotypes. There are always people who neglect kids in this way. Result: insecure young adults with self-esteem lower than anything you can imagine.

  • @M0oranshi

Irina Samoilova It doesn't go that way. Ads don't just target young people, they target people of all ages for good reasons. They infiltrate all ages because why not if it'll bring up more money, because they know it'll sink to the next generation. If a parent doesn't feel competent enough, feel like they wasted their years because oldness and a bit more weight, (which is what fucking happens when you age) and the natural bodily symptoms of ages is recently absolutely considered like a plague (oh dear a rimple the end of my life) they wished their kid would feel what she/he can't feel. They want them to feel anything besides what they feel, which is feeling fucking awful. That's a really messed up way to love a kid but it's what commercials etc teach you: You can't be happy unless you are pretty, and so to somehow subconsciously feel better about themselves, parents continue the cicle. If they can't make it at least their kid still has a chance to what they never had. That's why you have all those fucked up shows, about kiddy pageans, it all comes down to never feeling enough and it's horrible. And to the person who said that you 'should just love yourself'... well why don't you just 'be a millionaire' out of the blue because with the images this money-sucking industry throws at you it might be just as easy.

  • @DesertHeat

people here are still obsessed with beauty trends but they tend to jump on bandwagons. There's definitely a difference between North and South Liverpool (these girls are mainly North except for Jade and Amanda Moss) and also I hate to say it but a difference in the ones who went to uni/ further education or followed a more academic career path as opposed to trophy wife wannabes. Tanning is still in but thank god fake tans etc not sunbeds (sunbed shops are mainly money laundering fronts) brows are looking more natural amd less angry birds, since covid there is more a focus on leisurewear/loungewear and since this video was made, Liverpool has become more diverse, especially with tourism booming and lots of people from the South of England buying property here

i’m from the south and know someone who goes on holiday to liverpool ALL the time because she just loves it. i went there for a holiday when i was younger and my parents were so blown away by the friendliness that they genuinely considered uprooting and moving there. if you haven’t been to liverpool, you should know that it has great culture and there’s a lot more to it than what this video shows. but at the end of the day, it’s all personal taste and these people don’t deserve harsh judgement - they’re doing what makes them happy

Emma Beesley If you honestly think a relationship is only based on "sexual attraction" I wish you good luck in your relations. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. We all get old and get less attractive as we age. If we by then haven't figured life out yet and still think it's a competition of vanity we are going to suffer a *lot*. Silly troll.

  • @icemachine79

Kate Williams Sexual attraction is still a fundamental part of a typical romantic relationship. It has to go hand in hand with other facets of a relationship including personality compatibility, yes, but it's still very important. There's nothing wrong with that as long as sexual attraction isn't the only determining factor in a relationship, and often the sexual attraction one feels for another person is influenced by the way one feels about that person in other areas.

  • @SimplyCecileP

You cant fault them for that. They also all seem to have good hearts and be kind, good hearted people and thats more important than how they look.

Damn. I feel for the young daughter to that tiger mom. I mean 7 hours training a day, no socializing, friends etc? Sheesh, the poor thing's face screams "FUN" alright.

Yeah, her mother said that she was naturally muscular then goes on in the same breath to explain the lengthy training hours and the fact that her daughter has no social life with her friends. That poor kid looked so damn miserable I thought she was going to cry, pushy parents who live vicariously through their children need a bloody wake up call.

The mom who is basically telling her kid, "you have to train seven/eight hours a day to look good to compete." It's like a waste of a childhood. Sure the kid has some say in it, maybe she told her mom she likes doing it, but as a parent, you have to balance out when a kid should work hard and be competitive and when they should be a kid. Jesus lady, let the kid have a day or two off so she can see her friends and socialize. She's going to end up regretting it as an adult.

What is wrong with her little girl, 44:05. Like she looks scared and sad. I'm listening to the story and watching this child's face slowly drop, she was never given any free time to her self or any thing. That Little girl has a six-pack! And Her mum's all 'she's fine'.wth?! no she isn't. I wonder how many times the girl begged to quit gymnastics and wanted nothing more than to just have a normal childhood and not be subjected to hours of physical activity everyday. Throughout the entire video that's what stuck with me...

Typical stage mum forcing her children to live out her dream. I had a friend in primary school who was an elite gymnast and never got to see her friends outside of school hours because she had to train before and after.

fabnsass Whats getting my American ears is how the word "um" sounds like "ehm". It's interesting how they compare this area to New Jersey because I feel like the accents are both up there in terms of sounding very crass.
