That's something that has been lost. All this hype about Michael Cole? I never got it. Sure, he's been a loyal soldier, been with WWE for 35 years, and from what it appears, all of the talent revere him. He's most likely a great guy, but no one could ever follow JR and do nearly as good of a job at commentary, I guess. Not to be hard on him, but it seems he just never took any kind of methods or verbal mannerisms from JR. So many things he could have even mimicked and it still would have come off as genuine and "his own", but I never liked his commentary. I often critique the commentary today and compare it to the standard that JR set.

Oh, that anger at Paul was real at the time. They didn't rehearse too much. I'm sure they had a skeletal scheme worked out for every show, but you're right. Heyman would legit push his buttons purposely, that's what Heyman does. If it's real, how can it not feel real? That's why JR loved working with him as much as Heyman would piss him off. Made for a more real, genuine experience on TV.

JR's commentary throughout the years really reflected all the hatred that was burning inside us all whenever any wrestler turned heel especially with Triple H and all the hilarious moments with Jerry Lawler were absolutely comedy gold and memorable. I love JR to this day even if he's in AEW commentary. An absolute and legit legend!!!

My all time favorite JR commentary moment will always be when Vince came out to dance with the Dude Love groupies, and as he's jiving on stage JR just sounds absolutely disgusted about it like he's witnessing the most heinous act in the history of mankind.

Jim Ross sold Triple H's heel character brilliantly, especially those times where Jim Ross himself was on the receiving end of one of Triple H's beatings. I still have a hard time even watching some of those segments to this day TBH.
