One more thing... Actually, as nuts as it sounds, the best place to hit a shark to get it to stop is square on its nose if possible. That particular area of a shark's body is extremely sensitive, hence what makes them such effective Hunters, and it's one of the most vulnerable parts of their body.

Another caveat to the whole lost in the wilderness and making a fire thing... if you are not in a clearing and are surrounded by dense foliage, the best thing that you can do when you make that fire is, once it gets going... Safely... Be sure to add GREEN foliage. Specifically, (and most easily available) snap off and use young branches with lots of green on them from pine, spruce, or other type of connifer tree, (as they are innately flammable, even when green, due to the terpenes in them) and add them ON TOP of the fire. What this does amd why this is important, is that for maximum contrast and visibility, white smoke stands out much more clearly (day or night) against the trees, providing for maximum noticeability. Contrariwise, if you are in a desert location or are stranded on a beach, if at all possible, scour the area and your belongings for any sort of rubber, hard plastic, or failing that, any synthetic materials you can safely salvage or else super dry wood to burn. This causes of if not black, then much darker smoke than green fresh foliage, which will stand out more contrastingly and noticably from the sand in the beach or open desert... again, improving your visibility and chances of being seen and rescued. If you REALLY wanna go all out, take a non-flammable, THOROUGHLY DAMP but NOT dripping wet blanket, camp roll, or sleeping bag, and quickly lay it over your well smoking fire so it covers it JUST for a second, then repeatedly waft it over the flames, kind of like how you would shake out a beach towel, blanket or rug. You can even use wet tree or palm branches. What this does is stagger the plume of smoke, and is essentially how you created a signal fire or smoke signals and is even more noticeable. Just some helpful tips from your friendly survivalist. Also, the falling thing in #1? He's right in saying to TRY to land on the BALLS of your feet, WITH you knees bent, and as unrigid as possible. However, I should also add that, before/during landing, bend forward very slightly and raise your arms up until they're making something of an "A" shape in front of you, with your hands loosely balled or cupped facing you and placed on your skull, just slightly higher than your forehead where your hairline would be. Immediately following making impact with the ground in your hopefully hunched, crouched, knee-bent landing, and with your arms up in front of you, upon hitting the ground, IF theres room, use the natural forward momentum you'll have and basically allow yourself to roll forward onto your forearm, into a sort of low somersault. Doing so helps more evenly distribute the shock of the impact better and makes it less likely for your knees, ankles, spine, neck and head to suffer excessive concussive injury or more sever trauma from the impact of landing. Also a technique employed by paratroopers and base jumpers.

Another tip : if you're on a plane, sit nearest to the back as possible as the tail section of an aircraft will generally separate from the main fuselage in a crash and therefore set you apart from the fire that will most commonly begin around the engines and fuel tanks. 👍

Awesome Nugget there are three answers to this! One! You survive by either never being in the forest at night when it is foggy and you are a child or never taunting him with children! Two! You watched Marble Hornets, in which case you are just mentally ill and need meds. Three! Hide behind Jeff the Killer because apparently a fanfic of the creepy pastas became canon and the two now hate each other and at sight will be so enraged by each other's presents they will ignore you and you can run away!

Thank you Matt for bring up how to survive a fire. My husband and I almost didn't survive our house fire. Until you actually experience it, you have no idea just how fast the fire spreads! We only had seconds to get out. Also, something you didn't mention is that if you are in a high rise building and there is a fire, do not take the elevator! Take the stairs or fire escape. On a different survival topic...if someone you are with gets impaled by an object, do not pull it out! Pulling it out will cause the person to bleed to death. Wait for the emergency medical technicians to come and let them handle the situation. Don't try to play doctor. Another survival situation you didn't cover is how to survive your car going into a deep body of water like a lake. That's a survival subject you might want to cover in another video. Oh and another one you might want to cover is what to do if you are caught in a riptide while swimming in the ocean.

Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There’s shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That, that’s about it.

Just an Australian passing by thinking it's weird how Americans call Prawns; Shrimp. It's very confusing because they always ask if we want another shrimp on our barbie... But we're generally pretty polite about it... Like how you guys decided to call Thongs; Flipflops... Then invented "Thong" underwear.

I've been lost in the woods (Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky), in a decent sized tornado (and near a few others, in Oklahoma of course), and a few minor earthquakes (bet most of you didn't know Oklahoma actually has a rather large fault system) with the woods thing, I managed to find an unoccupied deer stand that still had some nonperishable snacks and spent the night there. good thing I have great night vision, or I never would have found it. the next day, I stumbled across a logging site outside the park, miles from where I started best advice I can give for any dangerous situation- stay as calm as possible. panic won't help anything, and generally makes it worse

Another tip for avalanche: If you find yourself buried, spit. You may have been tossed around and became disoriented. Spitting will help you see which way is up by feeling which way it dribbles, so if you attempt to dig your way out, you won't end up burying yourself further by mistake.

Another avalanche tip, in that space that you make in front of your face, you should also try to spit if you need to. The direction it goes will tell you which way is up in case you've been flipped over, are completely covered, and need to attempt to dig yourself out.

Great video! Hopefully, I will never be in these situations, but you never know. If I am I will try to use what I learned today. It's a good idea to always carry a lighter or matches so you can make a fire so you can be seen in case you're lost. A compass is also a great idea. Neither take up much room & you carry them in a purse, pocket or glove compartment. If you are out in bad weather things can happen pretty quickly. Having blankets & dried foods/bottled water in your trunk if you live where it snows a lot could safe your life also.

Also if ut falling from a high height, try ur best to avoid landing in water if possible. When u fall from a great height and land on water, due to surface tension of water u may as well fall on concrete. So avoid water since if u break all yo limbs at least u wont have to use said broken limbs to swim for survival lol

The slogan we were taught as kids to survive a house fire was "Get down low and go, go, go!" It's something I still think of instantly when ever I a fire in a movie. However we were told if lost in the bush or outback the number one rule is stay put! If it's safe then your best option is to stay close to where the path should be because that's where rescue will look first. The further you are from your intended location the longer it's going to take to be found.

Sharks tend to not eat humans unless you have an uncovered cut, or even jewelry, which they could think of you as a fish. Don't go into the water at night, or go too far from the beach.

I was actually in a situation about aix years ago where I choked on a pair of fish oil capsules that had fused together at an angle and had no room mates or anyone else around. Fortunately, I remembered what I learned in first aid class (forth grade and high school) and did the Heimlich on myself over the kitchen sink.

In regards to being in a tornado while in a vehicle, if you aren't near a sturdy building, as Matt said, DO NOT go under and overpass, if you do that, the wind from a tornado will go under and get compressed, causing it to speed up faster than the actual tornado winds themselves. Instead of going under an overpass, find a deep ditch and lie as flat as possible with your hands over your head to protect yourself from flying debris. Lying flat in a ditch will let the debris fly over you, thus increasing your chances for survival.

A bit on an add-on to the "build a fire in the woods" trick, cutting off a bit of your rubber off the bottom of your shoe will burn the smoke black making it much more visible. Food for thought.
