Charleston SC is the 8th largest container port in the US, it can handle any ship, the largest container ship in the world has been there.

Curious if the insurance company for this shipping company will be responsible for all the lost revenue for the backed-up ships and the financial loss occurred from that. The US will have to foot the bill to reconstruct the bridge ASAP and will get the money from the insurance company when it can. I expect it will run into many 10s of billions before it's settled.

All container ships are owned by a "paper" corporation that is worth no more than the value of the ship and its cargo. This was also true of the Exxon Valdez (Exxon paid more cause the government asked them to fork it over and avoid a PR nightmare). Thus, that is all that can be recouped. Captain's aren't operating the ships. Pilots that know the waterways run the ship until it's far enough out then they exit via the pilot boat and the ships crew takes over.
