A small, but powerful avalanche made a thunderous sound as it barreled down Cerro Tronador - which translates to “thundering hill” - a mountain near Bariloche, Argentina.

Waterfall that can kill you! I’d much rather take a waterfall to the face not knowing what’s in the snow and the weight alone might hurt

From this distance it looks like it would be fun to be under…..up close I think I’d change my mind😮
Por eso se llama "Cerro Tronador". Maravilloso❤🇦🇷 Te amo Argentina.
It's a snow waterfall ❤❤❤
Such a beautiful snowy cascade. Looks lovely from afar. Beautiful photography. But to be at the bottom is a frightening thought. Such threatening beauty ! ❤️🌹❤️
Each snowflake is too light to even feel hitting you when it snows, but if you add up all the energy of all the falling snowflakes, that's how much energy they have. Kinda mindblowing.

That is not an avalanche barreling down a mountain. That is more like an avalanche cascading down a mountain.

Another term one could use is "churning" and 2nd attempt metaphors of the speed gathering [as a wooden barrel can gracefully roll down a hill gaining speed ]for the snow to overflow the cliff.
It looks like not much at all, then you hear the rumbling and impact of the snow hitting the floor. It really helps to convey scale.
Mesmerizing.

Argentina has the highest mountain outside of Asia and a bunch of glaciers which have snow and ice all year around. Beautiful country, great people, amazing wines not necessarily in that order. 😊
Like sugar falling slowly through a funnel. Sweet and beautiful! Or sand through an hourglass ⌛️ watching as it slowly mounds and pushes and falls away from the top of its mound at the bottom. Mesmerizing and hypnotic!
Dangerous yet so beautiful. It’s like the sands of time.

That’s what mountains do, folks ~
Pretty sure that’s where they filmed that scene in Mulan.
Barrels are like branches/sticks bobbing and floating quickly down a river. ..also on dry land and one rolls a barrel down a hill the momentum and propulsion of the tumbling barrel will increase. Y
Wow Amazing!!!

That was pretty lackluster for a "barreling avalanche!!
Are there not controlled explosions anymore where the percussion triggers smaller avalanche like this one here to prevent build up and major avalanche happening later on?
When I lived in alaska they would have to do controlled avalanches to clear the mountain .
Iv experienced a lot of slides, but nothing like that. Would suck to take a ride
Good timing. word barreling.. Maybe this is where the word started .. barrel action ⬇️ On October 24, 1901, a 63-year-old schoolteacher named Annie Edson Taylor becomes the first person to successfully take the plunge over Niagara Falls in a barrel.Nov 24, 2009
Technically a waterfall...

Can't see where it is coming from. No drop in snow mass from above is detectable.
