Logically, some of the spelling is completely out of whack, colonel and kernel are read almost the same but spelt completely differently. The silent "b" in plumb, climb, comb etc. is very counter-intuitive to anyone else on the planet.

Many of those can be sort of inferred just by starting with the wrong pronunciation inferences following a more general pattern, but then speaking more and more quickly. You'll end up blurring syllables and dropping some sounds. The "correct" pronunciation is ironically somewhat like a canonized mispronunciation.

great video! I noticed that it helped me if I said the words in a sentence. because just saying the words out of nowhere is far more difficult than using them in a sentence. I still struggled with 2 though! Great way to learn :)

Mr Gideon and LetThemTalk, I have been your new subscriber since a week ago, and I learned a lot from this video. I got 9, my mistake was only colonel (I never get to use that word often). I am grateful that I already realise that English is ABSOLUTELY NOT a phonetic language, especially our language, Indonesian is a phonetic language. So, cheers.

Many late R's and L's are silent for many British. So "car" is "cah," "our/hour" is "owah," and for some, "hole" becomes "hoe," "school" becomes "skoo" and "subtle" becomes "sut-oh." Some Americans from the north-east (Boston, New York" also drop some of these.
