Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

All too often unfortunately sugar glider owners unknowingly make these mistakes when caring for their sugar gliders. If you have sugar gliders, or you are doing research of them before you bring them into your home, hopefully you will find this video helpful and you can learn for my, and other people's mistakes.

Very well done on this info. I'm an Australian mammologist who works with marsupials, specifically sugar gliders. I recommend owners look at the vast array of peer-reviewed literature, especially in regards to nutrition and torpor - you'll be able to find these through google scholar. Papers by Dr Fritz Geiser are always extremely informative. Husbandry, specifically nutrition is so incredibly important so please do your research! Even though I have mixed feelings about gliders being outside of Australia, it is great to see them being well taken care of.

I am so glad I found your page! I grew up in California where Sugar Gliders are illegal to own, but I have always been serious about owning some if I was in the right situation. I recently moved to Texas and have been looking for trusted pages that will best inform me to be the best Sugar Glider mama I can be when I feel I'm ready to own two 💖 I will be watching a lot of your videos and taking notes! 😌💖 I will make sure I am extensively informed and have the adequate vet care in my area before I even think about buying! Thanks for the helpful and informative video, I definitely wanted to target the mistake videos first to ensure I am not misled on my search for other reliable content!

My male just got neutered yesterday and so far he is doing great! The new babies and mama have leaved his incision alone and I’m so happy because I was really worried about it but obviously it is necessary because I ended up with babies who as of now are also doing great and are 2 weeks out of pouch and absolutely adorable! 😍 I had a successful nail trim about 2 weeks ago and now I gotta try to do it again this week and hopefully it gets a bit smoother each time. Also your sign is so cute, I love it!

I've had my glider for a year, we got him from a breeder that couldn't keep him because he fights any glider in his cage so he was taking up space for her joeys. He's been alone in his cage for a little over a year but with gliders like this, they need constant attention, more than pairs because they are still social creatures!! You have to learn body language for singles, because they can get crabby easily since they go through moods of wanting attention and wanting to be left alone, this doesn't mean they hate you, just that they want to be left alone

My neuter went SUPER WELL!!! If anyone is scared - I was scared too but I had to do it I knew they couldn’t mate, I had my exotics vet do it a month ago - very experienced - pom off - perfect heal! Can’t even tell! He is still the adorable sweet boy and I never have to worry for unexpected babies, highly recommended. And my Daisy girl is still trying to ignore me lol 😂 still working with her, my other two seem to really really like me. I’m thrilled with their progress. Love the videos I like to see your gliders. ❤️

As far as the nail trimming goes. My gliders that came from my breeder had never had a nail trim before. I did this in the first week of me getting them. They are already bonding well to me but I still used your method to trim their nails. I suspected that they hadn't had a nail trim, despite them not getting stuck on anything, when one of my gliders crawled onto my chest and it looked like I had just dived onto a pricked bush.

I really need advice. I have 3 girls and I’ve had them almost a year. They are pretty happy with me as they come to the door and come out often to me and groom me. They have had the same diet since I got them. I change their cage and use the feline pine. I also got one of the air purifiers you suggested! BUT one of my females in particular is smelling so awful! She is rubbing her scent on everything including the cage. I haven’t cleaned it crazy like since I’ve seen you say it can make it worse, but the shower curtain around the cage and the new fleece I put in she has rubbed all over and I almost gagged. I can’t find anything on why the female smells so bad. It’s her, her sister, and her mom. The other two don’t do this, but she is the more I don’t want to say aggressive but the most playful or willing to check what I put out first. I saw something about od-r-gone and sprink-l-fresh, but I only see their suggestions about using this. Is this something you think may help? Or any suggestions please! She just recently started all this lol and in having a hard time handling it since I’m in a small apartment.

Is it safe to have just 2 male sugar one neutered and one not neuter? Because I know when I got my first one the breeder told me he was but the second one she never said if he was and he has more of a not so sweet smell so I think my second one isn’t neuter, because my first boy has a sweet smell to him.

  • @sugargliderdiaries

I have heard some people say that you can have one neutered male with an intact male. I think that the risk for aggression might be higher still but I am not an expert on that. The biggest “no no” is two intact males together or an intact male with a female that should not be breeding, or the very worst is two intact males with a female.

I work a lot and leave for work anywhere around 4am to 7am and get home anywhere from 3pm to 7pm Monday through Friday. Some days are short and some days are long. Ide say 3 out of 5 days are short like I'll leave around 6am and be home by 2 to 3pm. Would that be to much time left alone for a pair of gliders, or does that not really matter since they will most likely be snoozing anyhow? If I got a pair I would definitely have a cage the size that's in your video like a 7 feet tall by 7 feet long and 2 feet feet wide.

It’s a possibility. It’s impossible to really know what a gliders temperament would have been if they had been handled and well socialized at joeys. All you can do is be patient and earn their trust. 🥰

I believe, but do not quote me, it prevents the glider from getting stuck in it if the c-link stretches. It keeps the hole closed small enough that the glider cannot stick their head in and get stuck. This is just my thought process, it could be some other reason though!

Fast respond - I can add one thing. Websites usually says that gliders have a baby once a year. That BS. In the nature - yes. Becouse of seasons. But in our homes, when we take care of them we make beading season a whole year. So they can have babys 2-4 times a year. Its 2 to 8 joes. Usualy it about 2-2,5 times a year. Still if you get pair that mates 4 times in a year - its quick roud to kill female. Pregnacy is tought on little body.

  • @Graoth

    @Graoth

    3 жыл бұрын

Ok now second part of this subject. When you have pair that mates you have another problem. You will have min of 2 and max 8 joes a year. Depending of time of year or your area - you would have new homes for them in diferent time. Sometimes it will be before they are ready to change home. But to be safe - it will not be always like that. Plus depending of gendet of joes - you coud have real.problem with finding new home.

And there is one thing i take more firm position becouse hurt feelings dont concern me in this. All pets need care. Even simple an cheap hamster. Sugar gliders are high lvl entrance pets. You need relatevly much money and information to start. And you need to have money. Everyday care is cheap. But if something is wrong - its really bad much more times than not. And if you cant secure funds for that for 100% - thik twice if you should have any pets with high vet bils. This is a reason why i have sugar gliders after turning 33, even i know and love them for more than 12 years. Now im in place in my life when i can support them even in bad times.

But not all of them shoud own them. There are things that you can be cheap with gliders. If someone dont have money to buy cage but have skills - they can build own cage for them with fraction of money needed. But vet bills are thing that can be very costly with exotic animals. And its a thing that cant be done cheap. I have chaned first post to sound more like i wanted it. Sorry once more you are doing fine job and its nice to see your videos.

I have noticed they freeze if you turn the light on... Their eyes are designed for nocturnal activity. If they start to play in the dark/semi-dark and you turn a light on, they will freeze. Try to keep them out of direct light; use fewer overhead lights and just one or two lamps away from their play space.

Ok so I know that you should obviously be smart when it comes cage items, but I I feel like the sugar glider Community is a bit too paranoid. I mean I’ve had my gliders for a year and a half almost and I haven’t had any issues with any of the things in my cage, and i’ve been told before that some of the thing in my cage are not safe. I’ve also been told that just because nothing has happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t. But why live is fear of something happening if nothing has ever happened, you will only Will it on yourself. So I have chosen to keep all the thing people told me was not safe. AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED STILL...

I hope nothing ever does happen. I know you want the best for your gliders and only you can decide what ultimately goes in their cage. To me, it is like driving with a seatbelt on or off. I could go 100 years without wearing a seatbelt and never get hurt because of it. But I choose to wear a seatbelt because I know that based on other people’s experience that if I get in an accident and I am not wearing one, I could easily get hurt or die. I hope you continue to watch my videos and always stay open to learning new things. Just like you learned something new awhile ago about diet needs. We are always learning and growing and once we know better it is our responsibility to do better 😊

When I first heard about lineage, I laughed. Capitalism has a way of using things like animal breeding to achieve top dollar. I did not understand that the reason why lineage is so important is because when gliders we're imported, they were imported by a single company, and that company only imported 150 of them. That's only 75 pairs. This only occured in the 90's and not enough time has passed to allow the genetic pool to enlarge. Maybe you can make a quick video about lineage and it's history, and why it's important. In this video, you briefly mention lineage and and only quickly say that it's important because the genetic pool is so small and not why! People need to be educated on these things and why they are the way they are! Also, if I am correct, there is a way to have genetics tested to see if breeding between two unlineaged gliders is safe and healthy.

Even if he is sleeping he can still smell get your scent and each time you get him out make sure it’s a good experience for him so he relates to you with something good. Maybe bribe him with treats. You could also stick a price of cloth or clothing that you’ve worn and has ur scent on it so they can get used to that and just stick it in their cage. Hope this helps you
