10 Minute Speargun Build

Спорт

Building a speargun in my basement shop. This is the 6th gun I've built since I started a year ago.
I have a gun build tutorial going up here:
aoshunspearfishing.com/blogs/...
Most of what I've learned about building guns has come from the spearfishing forums on the internet where the masters of the art are kind enough to share what they've learned after years and years of working hard at perfecting their craft. The amount and quality of information being exchanged through forum posts is gold as far as I'm concerned. Much thanks to people like Phil Herrenan, Behslayer (Jon from Ulusub), Jason Tiller (Impaler) Woodguy, Pankrationist, and all the other home builders out there who freely share their knowledge. It also doesn't hurt to hear encouraging words via eMail from guys like Chris Chaput and Darryl Wong! Last but not least, If it hadn't been for the videos on You Tube by Gil Gacula (RIP) and Josh Gregory from Neptonics Systems I wouldn't have known where to start! Special thanks to Josh too for making the quality components for home and pro builders.

  • @dmc7707

    @dmc7707

    8 жыл бұрын

    +zєקђг - AGARIO By saying barrel do you mean the track that the shaft sits on? On this gun the track is just finished the same as the rest of the gun with epoxy. On some guns I make a poured epoxy track. On those guns a deep groove is routed along the length of the track and then filled with epoxy and a graphite additive. Once the epoxy cures the track for the spear is routed into the epoxy. You can also do an enclosed track with the prober router bit if you wanted to.

  • @sofswimNscuba

    @sofswimNscuba

    Not sure what you mean? This gun went on to be finished with epoxy which adds durability and makes it waterproof but doesn't reduce friction.

    Hi, what are the benefits of having the handle so far up?

  • @deanmccormick9384

    @deanmccormick9384

    2 жыл бұрын

    It’s what is referred to as a “midhandle” Makes the gun easier to swing / track especially when diving in areas with current. Some divers prefer them in low visibility situations as well because it would allow the use of a slightly longer gun as opposed to a rear handle.

    Having built three boats with epoxy resin - two of which were wood hulls - epoxy alone isn’t great for laminating or bonding wood surfaces. You’d be much better off using either a wood flour thickener with the epoxy or even just regular Titebond III wood glue. Epoxy alone will delaminate. Too much absorption into the wood and nothing to prevent it or provide “tooth” except the thin mechanical bond provided by the epoxy.
