{Spearfishing Activities} 🤿 Building my new speargun! Invert Roller 100

Спорт

Spearfishing Activities
A project that has started a while ago finally is complete. My new Invert Roller Speargun is finally ready. Unfortunately Covid-19 Pandemic has hit our lives and we have to stay home as much as possible to prevent the spread rate get our of control. I managed to have one spearfishing day with the gun properly setup, right before the lock down.
It was a bad day though since fish activity was really low. The urge to try the gun was very big so I shot a matolapina, a fish that I do not hunt any more.
So it was a little unlucky that day...

    Hello AndrianBlue, all of your videos, and I watched this one three times in a row, and let me give you my sincere congratulations, what you have done is just a real master piece, I have been working on my own speargun project for years, and many times I wished to have a cnc milling machine and a real lathe. All the best and stay safe, soon this situation will get better!

    I have watched a lot of videos on KZread. Also what helped me a lot was to search and study a lot of photos of other spearguns. I spent a lot of time trying to understand what every builder did with his build and filtered what was good and what was bad (in my opinion). The process depends a lot on how you want to build the speargun, meaning if you build it with manual tools or with CNC because I have to refine the design for the cnc while with manual tools you just work on the actual piece till you make it the way you want. I have cut a lot of test pieces for the handle to get to a point it feels comfortable. This was the 2nd speargun I have built. I still make modifications to the handle. Today did a new test piece and I have already made some changes to the design to cut a new test piece in the following days. This next test piece that I am gonna cut will possibly be the final one!!!

    There are pockets on the underside of the speargun where I can install Lead. When I dive the speargun for the first time, I carry small lead weights with rope atrached and I hang them on the speargun and measure how much weight is needed to balance the gun, and then just install that weight into the pockets. If you see in the video, when I load the 2 bands under the gun the pocket cover is visible. There is one more pocket under the grip so I can balance front to back balance. ;-)

  • @AndrianBLUE

    @AndrianBLUE

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Well this is not a simple answer. The machine once the wood is ready (glued and faced) takes around 7-8 hours to finish the main body and the grip. But there is a lot of time spent on setting up the machine, setting up the tools, machining other parts of the gun like the rods of the head, the hooks for the bands etc. that add up to the time needed to complete the build. Then you have the assembly of the parts and the finish with teak oil which also takes a considerable amount of time.

  • @msacontrocorrente

    @@AndrianBLUEThanks for the answer, Andrian why do you prefer the oil to finish the product?

  • @AndrianBLUE

    @AndrianBLUE

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@msacontrocorrente I prefer Teak Oil over varnish or epoxy coats mainly because of the easiness of maintaining the wood. With Teak Oil you can apply a new coat every ~6 months and it will be like new. Or if you scratch the gun on a dive you can just apply some teak oil on that area with a rug after the dive and it will be ready to go. With the other finishing techniques if you scratch the coat it is a mess to re coat the wood.

    @@msacontrocorrente Yes. It seals the gun good. I even pour teak oil into the screw holes before I screw them in so it seals the wood in the wholes too. You just have to re apply a coat of teak oil every ~6 months. You can research on google about teak oil finish on spearguns.

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi. Thank you! This is my goal. The project started over a year ago just to build my own speargun. But during this process I realized that I really enjoyed and even got addicted to speargun building! After the first speargun which was a shorter 75cm version, which gave me a lot of information after testing it, I refined the design and build the one that is on this video! Unfortunately the pandemic has put a halt to our beloved hobby and I haven't done a lot of tests with it... I had the time though to work even more on the design on my computer and improved it. So my plan is to build some more, do more tests and have the speargun at the level I want it to be and then start selling it. I feel it is pretty close though!!! Then I will create even more projects like different designs and even other stuff! The travel version you mentioned is a good idea but I do not know if I will be getting into it. Maybe I will. :-)

Then when it stopped absorbing it I started applying a coat and wet sand it with 800grit, let it sit for half an hour or so, then wipe it of and let it dry 24h. Next day again the same thing. With this wood dimension you could not have 3 pieces. The stock width is 130cm and the actual speargun measures in its widest point, 85cm. Yes there is more wood wasted than normal but I need the extra wood on the sides so I can hold the stock down on the machine table. If I have a narrower wood stock, there is no place where I can hold it. If I had a different machine with a much longer travel on the X axis I would be able to have a narrower stock and hold it from the front and the back but that is not an option on the current machine I have.

    Hello, I am on the same path as you and also using fusion360. I have a lot of questions for you about the way you made your loft on the body of the speargun, because I designed mine by creating slices of the body but the result is not perfect yet. If we could exchange by mail about the process this would be very helpful.

  • @AndrianBLUE

    @AndrianBLUE

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi my friend. The process is not something you can learn by email. You have to keep practicing on designing and you will learn what works and what doesn't. There are a lot of ways to design this. I used T splines on this model but it can be done in other ways too. I have spent countless hours on designing stuff on fusion 360. This design alone is a project that I started designing like one and a half year ago. So just keep working and working on your designs and the more you do it the more you will improve ;-)
