I do miss Firefly. Now that was great.
Loved Defiance. Shame there wasn't more of it.
Tales from the Loop was extremely thought provoking.
You forget The Expanse ;)

It's so BS that they ended that show. I mean why? it was at an all time high.

@@MagnusGalactusOG i dont think it has ended, rather the contract with amazon was for 3 seasons. sci fi season 1-3, amazon seasons 3-6. i think we will hear more on whats going on after the amazon distributions right have ended 2024/25 expanse seasons 7-9 will most likely end up on apple tv(thats just my speculation tho).
Raised By Wolves is an all time classic. I hope for a new season soon.

@@kac2868 Tragic is they don't. So many garbage shows getting infinite seasons while all the best ones have to end so quick.
Way more cerebral than action-packed, I highly recommend Humans. It’s sci-fi, but it’s also a thought provoking study of what makes a human human/a person, the nature of consciousness and free will/thought, morality, family- heavy stuff, but it’s well executed, and the acting is excellent.
Orphan Black is an acting masterpiece the way Maslany played so many different characters was brilliant. Shame it had to end.
@merrillhess5626

Yes, Maslany was magnificent. In a similar vein, Noomi Rapace is even more spectacular, playing seven different sisters in the Netflix movie What Happened to Monday. She plays septuplet sisters in a world where only one child is allowed and any extrasa are taken away for ......well. Their father Willem Dafoe names each after a day of the week. As a means of secrecy and protection, they adopt a common persona and playing that person, each gets to go out in the world on the day thaty are named after. All goes well until Monday fails to return home at the end of her day.

@@martinwilliams9866I loved Foundation books (3?4?) decades ago. But as much as I loved Asimov, he didn’t write character depth and best I recall it wasn’t plot driven high adventure either. So not sure it would stand up today vs eg Dune, Hyperion cantos (Dan Simmons), etc.
What about the expanse and dark matter..
Raised by Wolves was incredible. But like most excellent shows, it gets cancelled too soon. I cancelled Hbo as soon as I learned it was cancelled.
Thank you for your time. Future Man was really good. I wish they hadn't canceled Raised by Wolves. The foundation was good. The OA was great with a great ending. Defiance was way ahead of its time.

This is part 2, maybe they will release a part 3. But yes, Lexx was an interesting show to say the least.
Defiance started off brilliantly then went down hill fast
Its a shame most were cancelled before the story finished and altered carbon was the best.
Future man was freaking awesome!
Foundation may be some people's good Si fF, but it bears little resemblance to Issac Asimov's Foundation, much like Will Smith's I Robot.
Chapters? (would be helpful)
12 monkeys ...thats a cool show. that ended normally no abrubt twists and changes.
As an avid reader of science fiction for over 45 years, I have yet to find a TV series that matches the quality of even average science fiction literature. There are clear reasons for this discrepancy. Notably, the overlap between fans of science fiction films and readers of classic science fiction books is smaller than most people assume. Many who enjoy science fiction films and series might find the award-winning books and short stories, such as those honored with Hugo or Nebula Awards, too challenging. Furthermore, there is a prevalent misconception that science fiction primarily involves relentless action, excessive speed, and over-the-top special effects, which often do not enhance the plot. Moreover, most action and special effects are edited so rapidly and chaotically that viewers can barely appreciate the scenes without hitting pause. Ultimately, science fiction films and series represent only a small and arguably diluted portion of what the genre truly encompasses. This issue extends beyond the inherent differences between literature and film as mediums; it reflects a fundamental mismatch in content and audience expectations within the science fiction genre.

As to tv series, Babylon 5 (seasons 1 - 4) is as good as a decent SF book although it is more of a science fantasy/space opera kind of thing. First season (and only the first) of Battlestar Galactica's remake is as good as some decent books too They are still worse than a GOOD science fiction book though. I'm sure there are some more but all are usually worse than the top of SF literature, that much is true. However book and visual media offer different things, while series or movies offer worse experience in terms of narrative, character building or how deeply they approach serious question typical for SF, they do offer something in return. Another thing to remember is that even in the best series a lot of content is just filler. You can have an episode or three in a season that are very good but the rest will be average at best.

@@wasylwasylson7349 You are right with the facts - but is this all necessarily so? I could imagine a world where good S.F. literature is much more recognised as 'good literature' as such - and not every half wit Hollywood producer would disrespect and change the source material that much - as it is regularily done when S.F. is transfered to the big or small screen. To say nothing of the fact that most literature never finds its way to the screens at all - instead Hollywood thinks they have better writers than the best Hugo and Nebula awarded authors out there. Which of course is laughable.

Check out "Foundation"... as in Issac Asimov's Foundation.... it's very good. They took a few liberties with his story.. but it's still very good and it is visually beautiful... great acting.. great story. I hope they finish it.

There is hard SF eg The Expanse (or the movie The Martian did great job adapting book) or character driven SF and eg Battlestar Galactica reboot (dark) or Babylon 5 or Travelers.
The OA was amazing but the end completely ruined the entire series as watchable. What a stinker of an ending.
Is the VO ai? Based on the cadence it appears to be
Liked the OA but found the very extended flashbacks too much. A good story told badly.
Can i find them on Netflix?

O love both SF literature and visual media. But I don't compare the to. They affect the brain in different ways. Literature forces the reader to imagine the events, where movies and tv give a spectacle for the eyes and ears. I thoroughly enjoy both. If you are here to argue that literature is better, then this video (visual media) is video was not for you. wrong subject matter.
Chapters
I would watch these series in reverse order since each series becomes worse until they reach number one.

They all are horrible. Just plain crud.
Foundation is a mistake here. It is bad, really bad. They steal the story idea, but It is nothing like Asimov's story. Asimov made a fantastic book and story arc. What they did with his heritage is a crime. He can't rest in peace because these bastards made this terrible series.

I agree. Apple took a SciFi masterpiece and turned it into a scifi cliche, Star Wars wannabe. When I heard that it was being made into a TV series, I re-read the trilogy and was amazed by how well it had withstood the test of time. The people behind the TV series either never read the books, didn't understand the books, or just decided to use their contract with Apple to re-imagine Star Wars.
