GSP. He turned the sport from human cockfighting to a legitimate sport by his image as a martial artist instead of cage fighter. Even pushed us into the modern era with stringent testing!

FACTS! GSP is the GOAT. 13 title wins, across 3 generation of fighters, over 10 years, 2 divisions, no peds, avenged his only losses, beat champions and number one contenders all his career. Love Khabib but GSP is definitely the GOAT.

Anderson SIlva not getting even a honorable mention? Let me tell you why he should have: He skyrocked MMA's popularity in Brazil in numbers beyond comprehension. Before his bout against Vitor, MMA was very obscured, only a few hardcore fans new about the UFC, PRIDE being more popular because it was aired on television, and 99% of Brazil not even knowing that MMA was a thing. Wanderlei Silva was known by very few people, Shogun Rua even less, Royce Gracie? basically unheard off by the population. Then comes Anderson Silva, and in just 3 years (period between Sonnen and Vitor bouts) he alone unleashed MMA's popularity in Brazil like nothing before. Just so you can get the picture: A making off/backstage program got the biggest ratings of any sports channel in Brazil, this including surpassing football, the most popular sport of all time, and reigning king of audience. Ariel Helwani had this to say: "I've never seen so many brazilian press journalists in Las Vegas. Actually, I have never seen so many brazilian news jornalists in a UFC card ever. There's no doubt that this is a historic event for the country." Combate, a combat sports only channel, had a 25% subscription increase in just one month. Anderson Silva became, for us brazilians, the Pelé of the UFC, we all knew who he was, and with him, the sport of MMA became so mainstream in Brazil, that nowadays MMA is even more popular than brazilian Jiu jitsu, Judo or Muay Thai (the most popular combat sports of Brazil). The reason MMA is so implemented in today's society that even if you ask people who are oblivious to the sport, they still know very well who Anderson Silva is, is a understatement to how much he changed MMA. And this is just in Brazil, keep in mind the world also saw what Anderson did, and became interested in MMA because of it. To not give him even a honorable mention, is a understatement of how low you guys think of him.

I'm pretty sure that he won UFC 8 & 9. I'm much more impressed with the pre UFC Japanese MMA Grand Prix style, shoot fighting tournaments that had unlimited 15 minute rounds until someone quit or was KO'd. No weight classes and the possibility of having to beat Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz in order to fight a relatively fresh Royce Gracie in his prime (all jacked on PED's at the time except Sakuraba) on his terms was easily defeated by Kazushi Sakuraba who was one of the most relaxed, dangerous, entertaining fighters of his day. Three three minute rounds once a year is like patty cakes compared to the no rules, no rounds, no weight classes, fight until someone taps or is unconscious, then advance to fight another unlimited time & weight competitor to have the shot to fight someone like the Terminator or Kimo who are fresh due to complete destruction of smaller weaker opposition in mere seconds or minutes.

honesty lightweight is so stacked that I think an 8 man tourney would be better. We would obviously have your original 4, but I think adding Dan Hooker, Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev, and Diego Ferrerira would spice the tournament up little. And I think 7 fights would be much better than 3. We would have to wait a while before we crown a champ, but since were adding all the top contender no one would be complaining or upset, and now no one can dodge fights, so as soon as Poirier beats Gaejthe, Tony can finally run through everyone and become champion :)

GSP is the GOAT. 13 title wins, across 3 generation of fighters, over 10 years, 2 divisions, no peds, avenged his only losses by finish, beat champions and number one contenders all his career, has one of the best resumes and mostly dominated all his fights. People say Khabib is the GOAT because he's 29-0 but the fact is that Khabib only has 13 ufc fights and 4 title wins. People also say Khabib has dominated every person. Yes he did so incredibly but GSP beat everyone at their own game. Outgrappled Penn, Serra, Diaz, outstruck Bisping and Condit, Outwrestled Shields and went toe-to-toe with Johnny Hendricks. He was good at every area of MMA. Love Khabib but GSP is definitely the GOAT.

Why do people always talk about title fights? It doesnt even matter, the only reason GSP has more title fights is because he got his in 3 fights khabib had to win about 9 fights to finally get his shot. If khabib got his title shot after 3 fights he would have more title defenses.

Khabib is an ultra impressive athlete, celebrity and person. However placing him at number 1 above literally everyone else in MMA in terms of how he "changed the game" is ludicrous. Henry Cejudo for example retired on top, saved a division, was a double champ and is not even on this list. This is a pure example of an entertainment channel prioritising what is popular now in opposition to what is factual. GSP has done much more than Khabib to change the sport of MMA however unfortunately he didn't just defend a world title so he will have to stay at 6th for now. The fact that Anderson Silva was not even mentioned further protests how fickle you guys really are.

Great video - really enjoyed it. My one nitpick is that Conor's Proper 12 logos at 229 aren't the same thing as fighters selling advertising on their shorts. Unless the UFC gave those spots away for free, that is. Which I think it's safe to say they didn't. Proper 12 surely paid a ton of money for that - and I'm sure it's available to other fighters as well. The ad inventory on fighter's shorts didn't cost fighters a thing. The one caveat here is that I'm sure these ad spots were negotiated in the same contract where Conor negotiated his compensation for the fight. So he might have gotten a better deal than an outside brand would have gotten. However, there's no way it was free. If this happened, Conor likely paid from his purse for the upside of growing his company's brand - and probably compensated himself from the brand since that was a essentially a business expense and not a personal one.
