Winning two fights while blinded against heavyweights when you're a lightweight and then fighting the best Gracie is one of the most terrifying yet hardest things I've heard. Respect to Nakai

Dude, yuki nakai is a literally mma legend. He gets blinded, but he KEPT QUIET for fear it would hurt the sport. Then he wins TWO FIGHTS. Unreal. He needs more attention in the lore of the sport.

Gordeau retired immediately following the eye gouging incident; he knew he had placed a massive bullseye on his head, especially given his defense of the foul was that "anything goes" in mma. Yett he himself was so reliant on the rules requiring grapplers let him go when he tapped out, including from Nakai who had every right to just cripple Gordeau with the leglock that finished their fight.

Another thing worth noting about Yuki Nakai, and I know it was mentioned, but just want to emphasize it even more..... He was 5'6-5'7, 155lbs. Gordeau was 6'6, 215-220lbs. His next opponent was 6'1, 200+lbs. Rickson was 5'10, 185lbs. What an absolute legend.

Fighters are some of the toughest people in the world. Almost everything in fighting hurts but you just take it it is what it is, that’s why I love it, this isn’t something everyone can do it separates tough people from soft people in my eyes. Plus all the adrenaline also helps to push through.

If your opponent sees you have an injury or any kind of weakness at all they're going to go for it, as they should. It's like when you rock someone and see their eyes glaze over, you don't even make a decision to go for the finish, it's totally instinctual. Same as when you injure yourself in a match, or get rocked yourself. Your first instinct is to hide that shit, because you know exactly what you would do if you were in your opponents place. And as JADORE ONEAL says, the adrenaline will keep you up until you calm and cool down a bit, then the pain really sets in, but during the fight it's really easy to push awful pain and whatnot to the back of your mind, because the urgency of defending yourself takes priority

Kinda wish you would have left Gordeau off the list because of the Nakai incident. Not sure that guy needs the publicity. Wouldn't exactly call that the spirit of MMA I guess. People worry about "freakshow fights" and celebrity matches making the sport look bad, when to me, this is much worse.
