    Metal is very big in Japan. So much so that the record companies usually keep 1 or 2 tracks as “exclusives” for this country.

    Here are a few examples Yamamoto may or may not have "borrowed" from different sources: DBZ Harukanaru Densetsu: Snake Way - The prodigy: Girls. DBZ Harukanaru Densetsu: HFIL - The prodigy: Get up get off. Budokai 3: dueling character select - Diana Ross: Upside Down. Budokai 3: flight in the dark side - Marilyn Manson: antichrist superstar. Budokai 3: embrace the blue sky(past 12 seconds) - Abba: Honey honey. DBZ Budokai 2: Fortitude indomitable spirit - Tokyo Ska Paradise: One eyed cobra.

    4:36 I'm starting to think this guy used his job as a composer solely as an excuse to do covers of songs he liked and managed to get away with it for years... Kind of JoJo being Araki "secretly" showing everyone his playlist and getting people into some good songs. At least Kenji Yamamoto has good taste in music at the end of the day. 4:59 Ah, so this time it's credited and legal.

    Idk if you've done much Xenoverse yet, but it's full of post-Yamamoto examples. There's one that's especially used during GT stuff that's so blatantly The Beautiful People ("Hell and Earth Connected", because they just couldn't be obvious enough without giving it a title that ties back to ripping off a song from the album Antichrist Superstar) it hurts. The Ultra Instinct Goku trailer (just the trailer) for X2 is literally just E1M1/At Doom's Gate. It's _far_ more a ripoff than E1M1 is of any of the songs people say (the fact there's even debate, tho my money is still on Painkiller by Judas Priest, proves this fact). I think you can do an entire video on Xenoverse, and it would be nice to give Kenji a break by showing his successors are just as bad. Plus it is hilarious they did it to Bobby Prince at a level worse than Bobby. Those are the two I remember most clearly, but I remember doing some effort and finding others years ago. The Ultra Instinct Goku trailer is a 5/5, the Beautiful People knockoff is a 3/5, but in the form of "sometimes it's 2/5 sometimes it's 4/5 and it goes back and forth".

  • @Gamedraco

    One especially egregious Xenoverse ripoff comes from Xenoverse 2. The Depths of Despair theme from Xenoverse 2 sounds extremely similar to almost identical to The Imperial March from Star Wars.

  • @PosthumanHeresy

    @PosthumanHeresy

    3 ай бұрын

    @@Gamedraco Oh yeah, that's one of the most blatant too. It's annoying, a lot of Xenoverse is just outside my sphere of knowledge with metal but it causes my brain to itch with "I know I know this from elsewhere". They're def still pulling from the same sort of symphonic metal bands as Yamamoto. They also pull from a much wider range of stuff tho. The blatant ripoff of The Beautiful People is Hell and Earth Connected (edited the original comment to name it), the Planet Tuffle theme. It's just so painfully obvious with that name, being for Dragon Ball GT, and doing that with the music. Like, you can't even pretend it's accidental when it's titled "Hell and Earth Connected" ripping off a song off the album Antichrist Superstar. For some reason they made it "Open Field" In Xenoverse 2. The Character Select/Character Creation music is already documented to be Coldplay's "Viva La Vida". We really need a full team of people looking into this, because nobody can be expected to know all music but too many of these make my brain itch with familiarity and I've gotten rusty with my own knowledge. They did have a lot more intelligence and are more prone to dismembering other songs and stitching together pieces from other sources with more original work, however.

    7:01 this one is a stretch, sorry. other than using the same chemical beats drum loop - which is from a sample pack, so of course they're going to sound the same - they don't sound alike at all. i seriously don't see how you say "this is an obvious knockoff, 5/5" when compared to Yamamoto's cribbing of, say, Stratovarius or Disturbed's songs, which are practically note-for-note covers.

    @@uncannyx for something less confrontational, i don't think you mentioned it in the previous video that included some non-Budokai songs, but the theme used for Gohan and Kaioshin in Super Butoden 3 is quite close to the theme of "The Red Spectacles," Mamoru Oshii's first live action film; composed by Kenji Kawai. It's played at a faster tempo, but it's there imo. additionally, i remember at the time of Yamamoto getting dismissed from the production staff for DB Kai that someone on nicovideo compared the intro to Trunks' theme in Super Butoden 2 to "Hold Out" by Osamu Suzuki, the theme of a Japanese pro wrestler who was popular at the time DBZ was originally airing, Keiji Mutoh. this one's a bit more of a stretch imo, but it does have a similar build up.

    Crazy that he was born one year after my father who was born on September 28th, 1954. Looks like Piccolo...couldn't get no satisfaction. "He should've been doing this more often. He would still have a job" killer burn! Oh, what was the rating for the Exploration theme (Planet Namek)/Man Made God by In Flames? I am going to guess that it was either a 4 or 5. I grew up watching The Great Muta when he was in the now defunct WCW. He was also a character in the PSX game WCW VS The World but was called something different with a red face paint.
