10-Day/200km Expedition Retrieving Abandoned Canoe: Stashed @ 2018 Freeze-up in Northern Quebec Wild

Ойын-сауық

I embark on a challenging 10-day, 200km remote wilderness expedition to retrieve the canoe I abandoned at freeze-up in Northern Quebec in 2018. There is a chance that Bears or the harsh northern elements got the best of it...did it survive?
Come along to find out. (WARNING: Comments may contain SPOILERS)
It's an adventure of the rarest kind far from civilization!
As usual, my Cape Shore Water dog Saku is along for the journey.
Watch the original 2018, 1700km expedition series playlist (6 episodes) to get the full backstory of my abandoned canoe:

Hey my young friend! it's been too long since I've dropped in. It's so cool to see you return were I first watched you doing real adventure. I'm sorry to have left Patreon and been gone for almost 2 years. Lots of bad health has overcame my dreams of getting out. The Gazelle tent just sits there mocking me along with all the other gear. I had one hip replaced but poor health canceled the next one. I was so depressed when KZread promoted your video tonight for the first time in forever. Watching this right now on the big screen tv you made me buy to enjoy watching your amazing adventures. I'll be honest, I'm terminally ill and if I don't get a miracle Im still so grateful for you taking me on your adventures, the ones that really transcend technology to bring me along with you. Your style is un-pretentious and real gritty. You really lifted my spirits tonight. Thanks for that my dear friend. Craig in Illinois

It's crazy to think how good/comfortable we have it that watching this is a form of entertainment considering people lived even more primitive and secluded than this for thousands of years. I almost think it's harder for our generation to complete a feat like this considering how nerfed and removed we are from reality and nature. Congrats on your completed journey/adventure.

Want to thank you for the visual and commentary of your journey thru Labrador and then 4 yrs later back to the canoe you had left. While you froze, struggled up rivers, portaged, and at times soaked, here we were in our warm home. You showed the strength and determination a person can have in such a journey. Nothing like those magical moments with the call of the loon ,sunsets and Northern Lights. Well done.

Nevertheless, I feel as if you had personally brought me along with you, and for that many thanks and I hope we do it again.

I "was with you" when you abandoned that old canoe four years ago, wondering if you would ever get back to get it! And here you are! I'm 55 minutes in so far, here on November the 28th. I made a similar trip to Takla; from Washington state, in attempts at landing a literal sea monster. The fish in these secluded Canadian lakes are literally of historical size! Takla is in Northern BC, near the Yukon border, at least as far Noth and secluded as you are. I'm surprised by how identical the land looks in northern Quebec, VS northern BC, for being on the complete opposite end of the country. Terrain isn't very diverse in Canada evidently, though this does look a little more like tundra, then the dense forests of Northern BC. Anyways, the bears were incredibly aggressive towards the Yukon as well. A big grizzly attempted to mawl me, and luckily grabbed my pack. When I dropped it he was more interested in what was inside than he was in me. Ultimately I had to put it down, but it was just one of many circumstances where I encountered extremely aggressive bears; *big fkn bears at that!* If you're a yuppie from Seattle, thinking northern Canada would be a good place do a thruhike, or to become one with nature, don't do it! You'll become "one with nature" when you inevitably end up as bear sht. You need to be competent, and well armed. If you're not someone that's that's fine with ending large predators, please do not attempt a similar trip. Unfortunately if you're an American types of trips are becoming increasingly more difficult, due to the comically ignorant presupposition of Canadian legislators, that banning all firearms will make people safer. A slugged shotgun is about all you're allowed to take, which isn't ideal, and requires you to jump through a litany of hoops if you're importing. I think within my lifetime these types of adventures will not be feasible, because you literally need to be mentally handicapped to believe you don't need a firearm. Gawd this reminds me so much of my trip. The wind was obscene as well, and I was wind bound for ⅔ of my trip. It's mind boggling how large these lakes are, with not being able to see from side to side.

Justin, thanks for bringing this trip to a conclusion. I was both surprised to see this and happy. Since you had to pause the trip four years ago i’ve been looking forward to seeing its’ conclusion at James Bay. This was the next best thing. Glad the old canoe was still in good shape and you and Sak had a good trip. This was entertaining as well as cathartic for me. Maybe someday you’ll be able to finish it off, that would be awesome. Thanks for all your hard work for making this video/trip happen and sharing it with us. Bon voyage down the next long trail ahead ‼️

This was a joy to watch. I taught canoeing to Girl Scouts in Las Vegas Nevada for 20 years. One day i saw an article about the The Boundary Waters of Minnesota and canoeing there. I then proceeded to build a program to take our girls all the way there to canoe. Such beautiful country. Much like where your adventure was. That is why i enjoyed yours so much, you are a natural and a true lover of land. I applaud you and your beautiful companion and of course that canoe too.

Just amazing! Stumbled upon this production and was glued to the screen for the 2 hours and 53 mins. Mind blowing, your competence and the adventure itself, but also the fact that one can get to somewhere so remote within their own country. In Greece where I live, human settlements are far closer together. Loved every minute, subscribed and since watched some overnights and the whole 68 days across Newfoundland series. How lucky you are to have Saku and vice versa. I cannot believe the number of subscribers you have for what you offer, when many backyard explorers on youtube have huge subscriptions. I have been telling everyone I know in the outdoor community here to tune in and I am glad to see this last production has views in the millions! Wishing you every success for all future endeavours! I tried to buy a a hard copy of 'man and dog' but it is not readily available in Europe. Will keep looking.

Hi Justin! One day I'll learn not to use KZread to fall asleep. 🤦🏽‍♀️So, I wake up for a, well, potty break 🤣 and on my TV is you & your dog . Intrigued I watched, admiring the beautiful scenery and listened to your calming voice. Just as you were navigating the islands and troublesome brush my tv checked in to make sure I wanted to continue watching. PANICKED, I searched the bed covers for my remote. Then the worst thing happened...it timed out and I totally lost your channel!!! 😮☹️😭 I dozed off to sleep wondering if you ever found the canoe? Did it ever stop raining? Is the dog warm? What was the channel name?? 😳 So, here I am, Christmas Eve day searching, "Canada,Man,Dog,canoe" ...AND #Boom, I find you!!🥰😊🤗 I'm typing this before the saga ends, so.....Thanks for a great video.
