An episode which starts off mad and gets crazier... I've been thinking lately about some cool things that most irish people take for granted as having which aren't so readily available/used in America. Let me know what others you know of in the comments.

Lmao. Christmas itself was super commercialized by American stores. Which then spread to every other holiday. Yeah...after WW2 ended and all the NAZI German scientists were brought to the US commercialization hit overdrive. That's when the heavy experimentation started with media programming and forms of high tech propaganda and mental conditioning techniques.

For the most part the "two taps" are only found in very old houses - the reason for this is that the entire "hot" water plumbing system is completely different from the "cold" water system, because old hot water tanks were very easy to get contaminated, so hot water was considered non-potable and couldn't be mixed.

J Cloth - As mentioned, not that brand, but we have those types of 'rags' Paracetamol - Also known as acetaminophen. Tylenol is the most common brand, but you can get store brands and other generic brands. Stores make more money off selling Tylenol, so that's what they'll suggest. Double tap - Also went out (for the most part) decades ago. Single tap can be adjusted using hot and cold to make a nice warm temperature. Castles - We aren't an old enough country for castles. Castles are from a time centuries before America was 'discovered'

Hi Diane! Great video (*as always)! I would add a slight addendum though: Generic paracetamol is available in the U.S. (pretty much everywhere). It is simply referred to here as "acetaminophen." While Tylenol is the most popular name-brand for it, even Walmart sells their own generic version of it (which is much less pricey). The names are different because of differing naming standards around the world. The U.S., Canada, Japan, Iran and some Latin American countries call it "acetaminophen" while the U.K., Australia, E.U., etc. use "paracetamol." *EDIT - Darn. I should have read the comments before writing one of my own. It seems like others were pointing this out. Still, your videos are fantastic, Diane!

Two Taps; I'm sure in the past they were common. Castles; We are only 240-something years old. Sausage Rolls; Yep, haven't had one, but I'd love to. (Brown Sauce, that too). Hello Diane, my given name is Paul Lynch, I was born in Orlando, Florida but my mother was born in Dalkey. My father was from West Texas, and obviously has an Irish last name. So, I lived in Dalkey for about 1 year when I was 3-4 years old, and I went to 4, 5 and 6 grade in High Wycombe, England. My father was in the Air Force. The rest of the time I lived in California. So I grew up with hot water bottles, I ate real Cadbury's Chocolate which my mum's relatives would send us and I was sad when the Cadbury's company sold all their distribution rights to Hershey's who ruined the name here in the US because it is way too sweet. I prefer Irish and British sweets. I am now 62 and both my parents have passed, so you remind of my time with loved ones and I love your channel so much. Also, I always have Christmas crackers because it wouldn't be Christmas without them. I can relate to your videos having grown up in between both cultures, so you always raise my spirits. Also, for me Christmas has to have shortbread and mince meat tarts. Thank you for reminding me of my roots. ps: my genealogy is 60% British and 40% Irish, that's it. Again, thank you for your videos because my Mum was also quite a weird one, and I miss her dearly. Her name was Maud Louise Warner but her mum's name was Brennan. My dad's name was James Emmett Bowden Lynch. Also these days I live as a Buddhist Monk and Teacher, so my handle is my buddhist name.

Ireland has some of the most uniquely polite and nice people overall that I have ever met. Travel and compare for yourself. I’m not saying that Americans are not nice, just that overall our level of niceness is lacking in comparison. There are places in the U.S. that are similar - in the South people have good manners and are generally pretty friendly. Most of the rural areas are decent but go to Dublin and walk around. Then go to any similar sized US city and compare. It is just different there in a good way. At least for now.

Every single grocery store chain, and every single major chain store (like Walmart) will have a generic version of Tylenol. Look for the active ingredient which is Acetaminophen. Paracetamol is actually a brand name, not a generic name for the medication. As for the water tap, you operate the hot and cold independently from each other thus you can tun on only the hot or only the cold if you want.

Hot water bottles were really common several years ago, but they've pretty much faded out in favor of heating pads. Heating pads (in case you guys don't have them in Ireland) are electric pads about the same size as a hot water bottle. They usually have soft cloth protectors that go over them and it's pretty common for them to have adjustable heat settings. They do all the lovely things hot water bottles do, but they stay warm over night and don't leak...

I loved the part about the Christmas crackers! I live in New Hampshire in the USA, and my mom would hand make some for our family every Christmas, lol they didn't pop but they did always contain a corny joke and cute little cheap prize and we always looked forward to them. I don't know if it's because my family has irish ancestry and I was always taught to take pride in that, so it was a tradition passed down in our family, but I know that no one else I knew did the same, so it's really interesting to find out that it's really popular in Ireland ❤ thanks for sharing, loved the video and I really look forward to your next post 😊

We also have hot water bottles, but those aren't safe for small children, so a "happy rock" or a microwavable bag of rice (cotton) is more popular. A "happy rock" is just a piece of soapstone that lives on the woodstove, then when we would have needed a hot water bottle we take a wool sock, stick one hand in it, grab the soapstone, pull in, twist, push back through. Quickly. In the end, a "happy rock" is a hot piece of soapstone inside two layers of wool sock.

I grew up in a city with a chocolaterie that has been in business since 1899. Easter they make solid chocolate covered fudge eggs by hand. The largest ones weigh kilos and are for special events. You cut them up like a cake.

First, God bless you. Second, silent Editor Diane is very powerful. 4:25 She raised her eyebrow, I nearly fell off my chair.

We have most of these things, although some of your list are not used by many. Most taps here are separate but then come out one spout. We have J cloths but they are not called that.

Hey D. First off, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your channel and everything you do (and Chewie too), but I had to share what happened on this vid when I hit the CC button. I wanted to watch your vid right away but I am in a place with others and I forgot my earphones. When I arrived at your discussing bidet's, the CC kept coming up as BJ's , which I'm sure you're smart enough to know what those are. I ended up borrowing someone's earphones to get the actual arc. Awesome job again but the CC REALLY changed the meaning of things !!!

I remember growing up we had "J" cloths (though I think they went by another brand name here in the states) but until you mentioned it, I hadn't realized they vanished from the market.
