so once again for clarification. i read the errata text for all cards. the updated text can be found on almost any site, like gatherer or scryfall. some of these old cards have some very weird, outdated wording. for example bubble matrix does indeed prevent damage. the original wording on the card is ignored.

Don't forget the original black Miojin. That spirit can make all of your opponents discard their hands as well! A friend of mine played it as a finisher in his Cabal Coffers deck back then.

I have a Jaya tribal deck partially inspired by the task mage video you suggested (discard and make everything blue) Painter’s servant is in the deck and when it’s out it’s just a mono red remand that counters + sick flavour text! I did change the theme to be a more discard, storm based deck, and no I didn’t include mizzix mastery. Deck is a house and one of the decks that wins the most in our pod. I added the Jaya secret lair + jaya pyroblast and planeswalkers. Deck is just oozing with flavour.

1:58 - You can accomplish this even if you pay white along with the black, so long as you wait until the end of combat step. Just like Reconnaissance being able to untap attacking creatures after damage, Batwing Brume can drain the attacking player after damage has been done. 4:17 - Broken Fall is fairly unique, but it actually has a functional reprint in Molting Skin. And the decks that want one probably want both.

Hell yeah. I used to play it in any modern sideboard with b/w back when Splinter Twin was big. Never did get to resolve one though lol. I love the card in theory though

I've actually been using burnout for a while now in most red decks, because I don't play blue. Great gotcha moment when you stop a cyclonic rift or even just another counterspell, because people don't expect counter magic from my mardu pallet I usually play. (I also learned about lapse of certainty here and use that one too!)

I play it in cedh lol, had to explain "if it's blue" just the other day as I wanted to draw a card.

Cadaverous Bloom is the one of the most powerful cards for how little play it sees. In EDH, especially at higher power levels, mana is the premium over card draw. Bloom converts cards into mana; its insanely strong. As well as another favorite of mine, Dream Halls.

Love these videos. I always see at least one card that is one of my personal favorite “hidden gems” I own most of these and even have quite a few in my decks currently. I still haven’t had a deck where I feel I can use bubble matrix but it’s one card that I want to use just cause it’s so unique. I kinda wanna play it just to mess with the game but that’s fairly foolish.

I’ve actually never seen Brood Keeper either. My guess is that it’s not too popular because red isn’t a big color for auras, but it could be pretty sweet in the right deck

It's great! Some good homes include Mazzy (where you can recast some cheap auras on it to make an army of dragons easily) and Shichiro (which will give you another evasive token for each aura you play).

I will die on this hill, cadaverous bloom is my favorite card of all time. Easily abused and used, love the fact you had it in the video man. I personally like to fill the yard and nature's resurgence for a decent swing of cards and hand, and then just pitch what you don't need to cadaverous bloom. Also pitch 6 cards and finale of devastation for avenger of zendikar? Many, many, shenanigans. Love the channel and the video!!

I have been a HUGE proponent of Batwing Brume for ages!

Burning sands looks perfect for a dingus egg group hug deck.

Love the old cards. Hadn’t seen most of those before

I run Broken Fall in my Tuvasa deck and it does good work. If you’re getting enough value from casting enchantments, it might also be worth looking into Gossamer Chains, which costs WW and bounces to make target unblocked attacking creature deal no combat damage this turn. Sometimes just having these effects on the battlefield deters attacks and targeting so you don’t even need to bounce them. I ran Chains in Kykar for a while even, until I leaned it into spellslinging.

I LOVE having burnt offering in my Rakdos Lord of Riots deck. It helps mana fix so well when you can get out those giant creatures early then you ramp hard by sacing one for a ton of colored mana to get your other options out

Lol theres still text on Questing Beast I dont know about.

Broken Fall is an infinite draw piece in a Sythis deck if you have infinite mana.

Ah... Burning Sands. Got it in my Borborygmos Enraged deck. Wildfire is quite the card to go with it

I'm a big fan of Mind Twist for a targeted discard effect. More often than not it'll either burn someone's Counterspell, but if it's untouched, it'll really hinder the opponent's play.

Just a heads up; Mind Twisting 1 opponent's hand, when you have 3 opponent's, is usually going to lead to someone being a bit salty. Especially if you don't go on to win the game.

I have win multiple games eith batwing, its not as much mana as inkshield to keep up but still does enough of a work

Brine Shaman is one of my fav pet cards. It's great in commander because everyone has at least one creature they always want to hit the battlefield. Being able to threaten that snub can give you breathing room for a turn or two

Burnt Offering feels like one of the best cards in my Rakdos, the Muscle deck - with Rakdos out, I can sacrifice Su-Chi Cave Guard to generate 16 mana and 'draw' 8 cards

An Alternative to Cabal Conditioning - Myojin of Nights Reach - Same effect if you want to hit all without any condition for 1 Mana more.

Batwing Brume fits perfectly into my themed Batman & Robin aka Silas Renn & Akiri deck. Much better, cheaper, and on theme than Inkshield.

Burnt offering is a part of cedh inalla’s spellseeker combo.

Burnt offering is amazing in my chainer nightmare adept deck. Top tier option for any deck in those colors that does things with the graveyard

I used to play prosbloom as a casual 60 deck a long time ago and even remade my 6x9 oversized deck as a prosbloom deck despite it being nearly impossible to find two more copies of cadaverous bloom or more copies of squandered resources. Cadaverous bloom so incredibly powerful with consistent card draw it isn't even funny.

You should look into the nightmare creatures from Judgment block

Cabal Conditioning has another contender for that kind of effect in Myojin of Night's Reach. I use it in Marvo, Deep Operative because casting it with Marvo meets Night's Reach's conditions.

Broken Fall sounds great for Gitrog Ravenous Ride will be ordering a copy, thanks for the suggestions Edit: upon further review it appears this does not work as you cannot regenerate a sacrificed permanent, still cool card and i learned a new thing.

Awaken the Erstwhile makes everyone discard there hands and its only 5 mana.

Have you considered other commanders and/or colors for the "leaves battlefield" deck?

Technically bubble matrix doesn't prevent damage, it is still dealt however it is reduced to zero.

@@toewoe Do you have a link to said errata? I checked Gatherer and MTG Wiki and there is no errata text for bubble matrix. No where does it state that the damage is prevented, only that it is reduced to 0.

@rlbarney2 My reply was removed because it contained a link, but it is on gatherer, scryfall, mtg goldfish, aetherhub, cards realm, accidentally cool games, cool stuff inc, and probably more. It's not so much a direct errata for the card, but rather the wording of 'reduce to 0' that was changed to 'prevent all.' Under the card on any of these sites, it'll show the card text where it will read, 'prevent all damage that would be dealt to creatures.' It is stated on any and every site that has card descriptions.

I already played Cabal Conditioning. The card is a good discard spell once you get a high-cmc spell online, but I prefer sire of insanity now because I can’t reliably cast high-cmc spells even when I reliably go handless.

Hey demo! Awaken the erstwhile also is a very consistent way to force everybody to discard their hands. Just wanted to mention it cuz I'm not sure if you knew of it!

Batwing Brume is definitely one of those cards that has aged poorly in the terms of the way the text is written on the card. It would be a lot easier to understand it by rewording the text like a list, like the new versions of the Command cards. It should read something like this: "-If (W) was spent to cast this spell, prevent all combat damage. -If (B) was spent to cast this spell, each player loses life equal to the number of attacking creatures they control. (do both if (WB) was spent to cast this spell)"

Its a pity but now takes to the indestructible from so many card exile and sacrifice boardwipes are more common then the normal ones. so regenerate works but not so much anymore.

smoke bomb from assassins creed will work for a turn. anything that phases out your opponents creatures like galadriels dismissal. dress down will also work for shutting things down for a turn.

@undergroundhead5 well maybe it's just my build. I can give people MY creatures, goad them & use brine shaman to prevent them from casting their own. I can also use him to sac my own stuff if, by chance, I have one of my own creatures too long. I like to have a few ways to recur my own monsters in the cases when they do die

Jeska's Will is a single color and generates card advantage as well as mana. Burnt Offering needs a high casting cost creature to sacrifice for best value and that isn't always the easiest thing to pull off.

So in the Ed-E deck you attack all the time but yet your creatures are always up to block? How's that work bub

Not really. It’s just funny templating. It’s for each attacking creature they control, so only one player (the attacker) will lose life. Unless, somehow, multiple players can attack at the same time, like a two headed giant or something.

Brood Keeper going to see a price bump? The 2 commanders you suggested for the card are two I like a ton and yes, Keeper is not in those decks :)

You should also give Dolmen Gate a shot in Ed-e if youre looking for ways to let them attack and not worry about dying

I stopped counting your "very unique" statements. "Unique" means one of a kind. There are no degrees of uniqueness. It's like saying someone is "very dead."
