Picks, as a guitar player who loses picks a lot, it’s the best gift to give.
I highly suggest the James Hetfield White Fangs. A bandmate gave me one. I ended up buying a tin. I gave that one White Fang to another bandmate. He ended up buying a tin. It has become our thing.

I still have my bag of KH Jazz III as well, as does one bandmate. They never really resonated with either of us. But the White Fangs have definitely become our band's "thing."
I'd add if you know their guitars are active get them 9Vs! And outside of that new strings, Can't go too wrong with a few sets of 10-46s. And if they play acoustic? A humidifier. Or some neck/body cleaning stuff and microfiber cloths 🙂
My other half got me a hss fender strat for my birthday last year, i kept dropping hints for christmas, but alas no
PRS makes a great little tuner that has a rechargeable battery that lasts weeks between charges.
Be careful with wall hangers if your guitar has a nitro finish. Some rubbers used in the hangers can damage the lacquer.
