Must Have Guitar Rig Essentials

Музыка

There's a ton of options out there so it's tough when you're building your first guitar rig to know what the essentials are. In this video I break down the gear I find is important for a well rounded guitar rig. Whether you're just starting out or you are trying to simplify your crazy pedal board, this video will help you narrow down those options and get to playing guitar.

So funny what you said about the DS1 distortion, I was an apprentice at the time and my journeyman told me to go and get some tools from the van, on the way to get the tools the owner of the fish factory i was doing the job at shouted over to me. He asked if I could take a few boxes of fish out to the loading bay for him and he said I can have anything I wanted from the old store room...various cardboard boxes full of old crap pretty much....so I sift through some old Christmas decorations and some old newspapers and plates ect and I come across a guitar pedal and it was the DS1 in pristine condition. I pull it out and go to ask the owner if could have it...he tells me it was his sons' who passed away recently and he said to me, you remind me alot of my son and I think it was meant for you. It was my first guitar pedal and I'll never get rid of it....

Man, you could push your own product exclusively with these lists, and be completely justified and put on a great show. The fact that you don’t really shows how much you love pedals as a whole, and that you really only care about your viewers learning the unbiased truth about how things work. That’s the reason I love this channel, and the reason I dig your stuff. The day my Morning Glory leaves my board is the day the sun explodes.

My Record Time minimal rig answer : People think of John Frusciante as the guy with the gigantic pedalboard from which he draws complex sonic textures. But back in '91, his rig for the landmark album Blood Sugar Sex Magik was minimal. Basically it consisted of a wah pedal, a chorus and a distortion. (WH10, DOD FX65-not his usual Boss CE-1- and a DS-2.) These are still part of his core sound, even on the new 2022 singles. There you go! Minimal rig = Legendary sound. Thx Josh!

@Kingg YT I have a computer that's running Ubuntu Studio as the OS. Ubuntu Studio is free, and it comes with two virtual guitar rigs: Guitarix and Rakarrack. The only thing you need to buy is an audio interface to send your signal into the computer. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about Ubuntu Studio. It has literally everything you need, from beginning to end. It's a complete multimedia production suite, covering everything from music production, graphic design (album art), PDF publishing (liner notes), and video editing.

  • @SynthApprentice

But yeah, I run my guitar completely clean directly into my interface, which sends it into the computer. I then use Jack, a low latency sound server, to route the signal into Rakarrack, and then route (again with Jack) the processed signal into either Audacity or a DAW. From there, everything is just production.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a home saturated w Beatles. I never understood why people would hate them, dislike them or even just be ambivalent about them. They are at the root of almost everything that has come after. It almost doesn't matter what you put to the test, eventually going back through its evolution, you will find that the seed came from them. For the longest time I thought that there was a section of society that was musically deformed, underdeveloped, or maybe just so pretentious that they would put their own ego in a position to try and eclipse this musical gift that we had received. That was the only way I could explain "Beatles hate." Anyone that grew up w the Beatles knows exactly what I'm talking about. But then recently I figured it out: its not that man is naturally malicious or so self destructive that it would purposely denigrate the musical harbingers of love; no, its that some of us are "delayed." Some of us just haven't been exposed to enough of their music to see that hating the Beatles is like kicking yourself in the "music balls." Your comment about 'Tomorrow Never Knows" is a perfect example... If you like that song, I humbly suggest you look into it's history, and how it was based on a mixture of John Lennon's study of the "Egyptian Book of the Dead" and the beginnings of his explorations into LSD. If you choose any of the 3 subjects mentioned: Lennon, EBotD, or LSD, and begin an honest and brave research project, you will have firmly set foot on the path to the greater truth of the universe and greater existence at large... That's the beauty and true existential import of the Beatles, they are a smaller fractal manifestation of the greater beauty and love that our universe and all of creation is, and possibly even a microcosmic model of creation itself! Anyway, welcome to the the more beautiful and pure understanding of love, music, and reality in general! It makes me happy to see you here! and let me be the first to congratulate you and wish you well on the most beautiful and amazing journey, to which you have found the door. If you decide to walk through, I feel that you probably cancel out the karma of some frightened authoritarian deceiver somewhere that has just manipulated some poor soul into believing that its "not cool" to like the Beatles, and thus set them back musically and spiritually by an unknown but seemingly catastrophic degree. I hope that you continue on your path and possibly show the way to someone else; thats the only way we are gonna get out of this world "alive." I apologize for the lengthy response, and assure you that I'm not some sort of "Masonesque" zealot. I just know that the road to our salvation and a more utopian society is going to come from everyday people, like us, making conscious decisions to set down our divisions and embrace the beauty of music, art, and all other creative acts. Best wishes and regards to you my friend. -C

Important pedal to any rig is the EQ pedal. I don't know how I ever lived without it!!

Tom Russell’s Aztec Jazz. 2 dudes with acoustic guitars, and the Norwegian Wind ensemble. Recorded live. Thad Beckman absolutely kills it on the guitar and the songs are amazing. One of those albums I didn’t really like the first time I heard it, then realized I couldn’t live without. I bought my copy from Tom Russell himself after a show. Super cool guy, and one of my favorite song writers.

So happy I impulse bought the Marine Layer Reverb. Sounds airy and lush. And the dry killswitch is a blast, too.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I didn’t want that track to end! Once again Josh you demonstrate the power of a good pedal or two to transform sound without needless over the top shredding. Fanflippin’tastic.

My favorite pedal amp is the Rivera design Princeton Reverb 2. I acquired two of these when I worked at Fender in the late '80s. Extremely versatile with it's mid and treble boost, the master volume is a plus also.

This is the second of your videos I have watched. I love your straight forward approach. As far as Revolver goes, it was a deal maker for me. The Beatles grew up and were no longer going to be the world's first boy band.
