For a brief moment, Track and Field was the biggest game in the arcade. There were always people waiting to play it and gamers would try different techniques to maximize the speed they could hit the buttons. I think a comb and pencil combination was used by some? I know that plastic guards were placed around the buttons to try to prevent the use of such makeshift devices. I recommend playing on an actual arcade machine so you can the authentic experience and really hammer those buttons!

I encountered one that used a rollerball instead of buttons. Unless you brought along a belt sander, you couldn't reach warp speeds.

A friend and I would go play Track & Field any chance we got. The local 7/11 had one, and if we had a spare quarter, we were there w/ our trusty #2 pencils. In case you aren't aware of that particular hack, the #2 pencil was used to mash the run buttons @ super speed in order to break records. I still play it the same way on emulators using arcade controls.

D&D: Tower of Doom and Shadows of Mystara were just incredible games. I remember the first time I saw them in the arcades. I was immediately enamored by them. I also remember thinking...these have to release on a 32-bit platform! As I had both the Playstation and Saturn I actually thought I had a pretty good chance of that happening. Especially when you look at Guardian Heroes I thought it was a Saturn lock and I was right but... Unfortunately, while they both released for the Saturn they were kept in Japan. However, there is actually a happy ending ending to this story albeit it took forever to happen. Both D&D games were released via XBLA in one package and can be played on every Xbox platform from the Xbox 360 all the way through the Series X! I have them downloaded to my Series X SSD right now (as well as Guardian Heroes). Welcome to the D&D World!

Concerning medical issues caused by arcade games: There was a certain soccer game in the 80's, I played the 2 player version which was table-shaped, where you controlled your player by a trackball: Faster rotation means faster running. After about 20 minutes I had severe blisters on my thumb.. And there was this crazy vertical shump where you had to hammer the button like in track and field to build up your spaceship's weapon power - and you were not allowed to ever slow down. Anyone remember that?

Tekken Tag Tournament, Soul Calibur, and Soul Calibur 2 are very good on arcade. You should check out "The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy" from Data East, but it's a more Indiana Jones type of action game. A real shame this game never got a console port of any kind, not even a Saturn port or something. I guess it was way too ambitious for the usual 16-bit consoles of the time. It was released in 1990, so even a Genesis port would have been extremely butchered with all the animation techniques used that the consoles from the time couldn't do. And i'm guessing the Saturn or PS1 could have done it, but it was way too late for a port, and the game didn't really caught on back then. G-Mode/Marvelous: we need a Data East collection, and that MUST include "The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy" among other must-play titles!

Some others I'll mention include the Daytona USA/Sega Racing Classic series (including the HD remaster), Virtua Racing (with Switch and Deluxe 32X being the best ports), Mortal Kombat 2 & Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (with Trilogy unfortunately not on arcade), Darkstalkers 3, Tekken 3 & 5, Samurai Shodown 1 & 2, Final Fight (with Sega CD arguably being the best version), TMNT: The Arcade Game, Alien vs Predator, Twinbee Yahho!, R-Type 1 & 2 (with 3 not being on arcade), Time Crisis series, Rastan 1 & Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode 3 (ironic how a change in genre made Rastan 3 better than Ratsan 2), Sunset Riders, Terminator 2: Judgement Day... X-Men (1992), X-Men: Children of the Atom, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Star Wars Trilogy Arcade, Star Wars: Battle Pod, F-Zero AX, Galaxy Force 2, After Burner 2 & After Burner: Climax, Out Run, OutRunners, Out Run 2, Fighting Vipers, Virtua Fighter 3 & 5, Sega Rally & Rally 2, and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram.
