    Strider NES was not an adaptation of the arcade game; it was an adaptation of the “Strider Hiryu” manga that told a story of Hiryu being forced out of retirement to deal with a completely different threat than in the arcade (in which he was a rookie Strider). I do agree with you that it was weird and the gameplay was janky. It felt really rushed, and ignored all the abilities he had in the arcade game (wall crawling, assistant machines, etc.). I enjoyed it nonetheless, but if they’d taken the time to at least polish the gameplay and other elements, it would have been an NES classic.

    2:29 I got to humbly disagree. I got nothing but fond memories for 3D world runner. This was the first time I had this kind of view in a platfomer in the late 1980s so it was pretty groundbreaking for me. No game was like that at the time. And as repetitive as the music was it it was delightful and it still rings in my head so many years later. I never was able to see 3D mode but it must have been cool

    I had the fortune to own this game and a few pairs of 3D glasses as a kid. Its just a little gimmick, the same way avatar in 3D was. While cool, its still a ridiculously hard game that will crush your balls and send u back to the first world over, and over, and over again. Dont think i ever beat that game as a kid.

    I got this game for my 10th birthday and liked it a quite a bit. It came with a pair of standard 3D glasses (I actually still have mine!), which worked on CRT televisions. I always played in regular 2D mode, but did check it out in 3D. I was the same way with "Rad Racer." It was neat for a minute, but not the ideal way to play.

    the worst NES game I've ever played was obviously Action 52. My brother and I were way into emulation back in the early 2000s and we thought this NES compilation of 52 games sounded cool... boy were we wrong. And then we learned this was a real thing, not a hack, and was sold for $200... which is $450 today. We were blown away -- something THIS bad for THAT much money?!

  • @Fortefyre

    @Fortefyre

    It's a VERY unfortunate aspect of the gaming market. The worse something is, the more the cost goes up. And to make matters worse, good luck finding an action 52 on the NES that works!

  • @themidcentrist

    @themidcentrist

    I wonder...was it actually sold for $200 at the time, or was that just the MSRP on paper? Action 52 wasn't sold by major retailers, and the mom and pop store at the flea market could sell it for whatever they could get for it. If they got them for $30 they could have sold them for $60 and poor suckers buying it could have thought that was a great deal because the box said it was worth $200.

  • @Fortefyre

    @Fortefyre

    7 ай бұрын

    @themidcentrist I have no clue. Msrp is what the manufacturer suggests you sell it as right? I'm sure the markups happened often. It's definitely not worth $2 much less $200!

  • @themidcentrist

    @themidcentrist

    7 ай бұрын

    @@Fortefyre MSRP is indeed the price the manufacturer suggests that the retailer sells the item for, but it is almost always inflated so that the retailer can give the customer a "discount" to make them feel like they got a good deal. Video game hardware and newly released games are an exception and usually start out being sold for MSRP, but that probably wouldn't be the case for unlicensed crap like Action 52

    I have to disagree about Strider. While the arcade was far superior (and Strider 2 is my favorite arcade platformer of all time), the NES version was its own brand of fun. It wasn't a port of the arcade Strider, but follows the plot of the Strider manga in Japan. I'll admit that when it came out, when I was a kid, I was a little miffed that it wasn't the arcade game, I ended up loving it anyway. And I always had the arcade Genesis port. And then in 2000, I walked into an arcade in Sapporo and discovered Strider 2. So. Much. Fun.

    I don't agree at all with Mega Man 6 being thrown in the same pile as Dirty Harry, a game the Nerd made an episode on. I've played all the Mega Man games, and I can't even say the first one was bad enough to be thrown on a list like this. If anything, I loved 3-6, and thought 2 was a great game, as well. My 2 cents.

  • @tyguy104

    Cranky Kong, "When I was coming up, we played games that we're only one screen." And that's where it starts. So if you're making a game, start there. And work you're way up from there as you develop comfort with your game engine (may take a couple years for that). Don't try and zoom in and zoom out and flip camera, well you can start there if you want. But no, I mean, keep it simple and see how far you can take it I guess. You throw in another repeat loop somewhere and the game completely crashes. Keep back ups for new repeat loops that can you know?

    Not Mega Man 6! Although I will say it was pretty mid, imho. I feel like it's a product of the sequel fatigue that Mega Man was starting to get up to, and I feel like they should have used 6 to innovate on SNES. 7 is a beloved entry.

    Hardly disagree on Mega Man 6. It does look like another Mega Man game compared to the previous titles. But it isn't always an bad thing and IMO; Mega Man 6 is the most polished & well balanced Mega Man game on the NES. It had great level designs, unique robot masters, great and balanced weapons, the multiple path for the levels was niche, the Rush Adapters are an great addition & fun to mess around with and the game feels more tolerable than the previous ones in terms of difficulty and construction. There isn't any cheap or obnoxious moments that previous Mega Man games have and the way it's design is alot more interesting and fun. Yeah. The game maybe easy. But so was Mega Man 5 and that game was more dull because it didn't do anything special nor it didn't do anything at all. Mega Man 6 tries something at least and I think it pay off. And it was an solid finale for the NES. The game being easy doesn't always mean it's bad as long as the quality and construction of the game is well done and MM6 does just that. No offense my dude. But your wrong.

    Road Fighter is an early Famicom game which for some strange reason was released in the PAL region in 1991. It's pretty fun for an early title when you know how to recover from collisions. 3D World Runner, man that game gets frustrating at hell and the music will drive you insane. Mega Man 6. Well it's still a Mega Man game and I like it more than 5. BTW, Platoon was by Ocean. Don't know if Sunsoft developed the NES port beside publishing it.

    1. Probably would have been worth mentioning that road fighter was only released in japan and europe. 2. Outrun did not come out for NES. 3. You that in road fighter that the game is so fast you cant avoid obstacles, yet you hit no obstacles in your gameplay footage. 4. You say most nes racing games were Isometric, and games with behind the car perspectives are "outliers". Incorrect. By my count there are 30 North American NES racing games that fall into 8 sub categories based on perspective. 10 are played from behind the car, 5 are isometric. Here is the complete breakdown: Behind: 10- al unser, days of thunder, Ferrari, formula one, knight rider, Mach rider, mario Andretti, rad racer, rad racer 2, roadblasters In car: 3-knight rider, bill elliot, Nigel mansell, Side: 2-excitebike, stunt kids Single screen: 4- off road, Danny Sullivan, super sprint, BMX simulator(Quattro sports) Isometric: 5- rc pro am, rc pro am 2, galaxy 5000, marble madness, cobra triangle Overhead: 4- bump n jump, micro machines , rally bike, super cars Overhead/behind: 1-eliminator boat duel Overhead/side: 1-bigfoot Overhead/side/behind: 1-race america

    This is a great breakdown and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it. I do implement European releases in my NES videos, because the NES was also the name of the console in Europe, although the European NES variance is slightly smaller. I didn't record enough footage to capture all the obstacles or cars that were in the way. This was the first time I did this video, so mistakes are always made :)

It has some of the best music on the NES, the graphics are very good, but IMO it is ruined by your character running and jumping very sluggishly and feeling like he is not up to the challenge of what you encounter. I honestly had more trouble mastering the Super Metroid wall jump than the NES Strider and found Super Metroid much more frustrating to play overall. I know I'm a big outlier on this. Maybe because I actually played lots of hours of Strider as a kid, but despite getting an SNES in 1993, I never played Super Metroid until 2008.

    There is a lot to recommend about megaman 6 and a lot to say "yeah not so hot." Pros include different paths to the robot bossed, a less insanely powerful BEAT that's easier to get and the best graphics of the series for Nes. Cons: it felt rushed. Get the last nes game out before its too late. If 5 was too hard 6 was too easy. Would I pay what original cartridges are running now? No. Is it a fine game to get on the switch? Yes. But while your criticisms are fair I would look at silver surfer or festers quest or something before I included the blue bomber. And if I did 5 would be my "leave it be" pick. And this from someone who ground on 5 till it was beaten.

It did some great things for the time. I can't believe you didn't like Blaster Master for the Nes. That game was truly something special. You don't like Afterburner?! What?! Fun Fact: Noah's Ark was actually a non-licensed game by Wisdom Tree. Here's the funny part....Wisdom Tree didn't start out making Bible based games. They were trying to make a game based on Hellraiser. It was going to be incredibly complex with an extra processor (Zilog Z-80 8-bit co-processor) inside the cart. It didn't work out and they started making Bible games shortly after. Crazy.

With most games I try, if they have broken controls or crap hit detection etc... that's when i bring out the Game Genie and find it more fun, amusing, or by doing so make it more playable for myself and some I actually appreciate more or see what the developer was trying to do. In some case's some of these developers were way ahead of their time in thinking and failed miserably trying to implement some mechanic into the game in turn which "ruined it" or made it a "bad" game".

    Dragon’s Lair is utter garbage on the NES. Dirk’s sprite is very large on the screen, thus giving him a large hit box, which is a big problem when many of the enemies kill you in one hit, and the jumps are clunky as I’ll get out. I'm not going to lie I can agree with you on the Mega Man 6 take it is very easy and the Robot Masters aren't even difficult at all compared to the other mega man games on the nes the only thing that's really difficult about it is the level layouts especially on Plant Mans stage as far as that it's one of the easiest Mega Man games ever and the Robot Masters and the bosses aren't even that hard

    As for Mega Man 6, I completely agree with your assessment, especially given my preference for the earlier titles like Mega Man 1 - 3. The introduction of charge-fired normal shots and additional equipment takes away from the classic gameplay of strategically finding the boss's weakest weapon and attacking. While some might argue that the charm shifted towards analyzing attack patterns and dodging, I personally found it to be too easy. The too versatile high-powered charge shot seemed to diminish the challenge, allowing for a more forceful approach. Reflecting on my memories from that time, it felt somewhat empty that I could instantly clear a newly purchased Mega Man game at list price on the very day, I saved up enough from my meager allowance. My friends and I used to call each other and compete over the phone about who was the first to buy a new Mega Man game when it came out, and who was the first to clear it. Oops, I'll correct on one thing. I'm from jpn so I'll call it Rock Man 6 here instead of Mega Man 6 lol

    Haha, well thank you for the kind comment! I hope that you continue to agree (or disagree) with my opinions and games, and ALWAYS feel free to comment, I LOVE interacting with folks. Did you find that Rockman played better than Mega Man, or did they feel the same? I played Rockman 4 and 5 on the Famicom, because I couldn't afford the NES releases at the time, but I never messed with Mega Man 4 and 5 still to this day!

    Well let me see, I'm not sure. I have only played on Japanese consoles only but have watched Mega Man games on speedrun videos. While they are quite similar, I dropped my jaw when I found Mega Man 2's normal difficulty unexpectedly easier, almost boneless. If Mega Man 2 was played in Japan, it would be no way the legendary song "Air Man ga Taosenai"(Can't Beat Air Man) was such a famous I guess. (Normal buster 14 hits -> 7 hits can beat him!?) As you may know, the music is the basis of the concept of Rock Man, but in the titles after 3, the main concept of the Rock'n'Roll-inspired soundtrack has been toned down to fit the world of the bosses. If the Japanese title had also been "Mega Man", I might not have been disappointed with the shift in the music's direction, I think. Regarding the Rock'n'Roll elements, 6 is no longer a shadow of its former self. About the package illustrations difference were... needless to say🤭

    3D world runner was pretty terrible overall as a game. If you had 3D glasses it made for a neat little gimmick, but you’re better off playing rad racer instead. Mega man 6, have to agree. It had certain power ups that I WISH megaman 3 had, because of how balls hard it was. It was just completely forgettable, i think the music had a big part of this. I remember playing strider and i had to mess with my NES multiple times because i thought it was shitting itself only to find out it was just shitting itself and glitching out “by design”. Never was able to beat the game because i literally got stuck and couldn’t progress forward. Went around in circles for an hour or so.
