Ok there are two constant issues I’m seeing in the comment section so I'll address it here rather than spending Christmas replying to each individual comment. 1. Daniel Sterns scream A lot of comments are saying I’m wrong and the scream was put in post, but I’m just going by Daniel Stern’s own mouth where he says he was told to scream as the spider wouldn’t be able to hear him where he gave off a scream like “Psycho” but hey don’t take my word for it, it’s on KZread, in a documentary called The Making of Home Alone. Here is the link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWl10NOOp7zXorQ.html skip to 13:24 of that video to hear Stern talk about the scream he did then hopefully that’ll put some of the commenters at ease. 2. Oh you obviously watched The Movies that made us Yes I did use ‘The Movies that made us’ as a resource as I did with other documentaries and articles and websites for this episode, how else am I meant to do research?? I even mentioned ‘the Movies that made us’ at the end and said it was a great help to making this video and recommended it to Home Alone fans. I think some people seem to think it’s a bad thing that I saw it to do some research but then if the fans don’t agree with you get accused of doing no research. Point is you just can’t win in the harsh realm of the comment section. I hope this has cleared some issues up, take care peoples and Merry Christmas. I hope all your wishes and dreams come true and you get cool pressies.

It was good seeing John Candy and Catherine O'Hara together in the scenes they were in. For those not familiar, they had previously worked together in the late 70s and early 80s on the Canadian sketch comedy show "SCTV". That show also produced talents like Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Harold Ramis, and Martin Short.

I heard somewhere that the scream during the tarantula scene was later dubbed in because screaming would have freaked the spider out and caused it to bite, so he pretended to scream and then recorded the real scream in the studio, in which they later put in the scene.

“Keep the change, ya filthy animal!” The tradition of John Hughes films being shot in school gymnasiums actually stems back to the film shoot for The Breakfast Club, whose jaw-dropping library setting for 85% of the story was assembled in a different school building in the Chicagoland area. There is a really good deleted scene with Harry and Marv singing their own version of "Santa Claus is coming to town" about themselves. I also watch these old movies with great sadness when I think of John Candy. He was such a talented and under rated actor. When I watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles I never even think of Del as John Candy because he's so deep in the role.

This is my FAVORITE Christmas movie ever, and I watch twenty-four hours of A Christmas Story every year since TNT and TBS started doing that! I like the conversation Kate and John Candy have when he says he left his kid at a funeral parlor, when he says "But he's okay, y'know, six or seven weeks he came around, started talking again" really cracks my mom up:) I like bits of the sequel but I wish they had made Tim Curry the one Kevin bonded with and that he had told the hotel workers what happened so they have no choice but to keep him at the Plaza and give him everything he wants because the cops tell them to until Peter and Kate get there as well as because the McCallisters are rich:)

Macaulay Culkin's stunt double was a very short 30-year-old man. Director Chris Columbus' biggest fear as a kid was burglars. It's part of why he wanted to make this movie At the end of the movie where it snows outside Kevin's house, the snow was actually mashed potato flakes. I always wanted to see Kevin's wet/sticky bandit "traps" tested on Mythbusters; to see which are merely painful, and perhaps which could actually be deadly in real life. Break out the human analogs and the CT scanner and see what happens when a human skull meets a matched velocity paint can, or bricks thrown downward (repeatedly) from 60 ft., or a blow torch for the same number of seconds. How does a body hold up when it falls from a duplicated number of feet on to it's back, or mashed by 300 lbs. of tools against a wall. I've seen Home Alone 1 & 2 shown on network TV with some of the traps rather severely edited.

Another quick note that I heard somewhere: At times Joe Pesci forgot he was in a family comedy, and would occasionally drop F-bombs. Because of this, he supposedly came up with that muttering thing he did in both this movie and in Home Alone 2 to try to refrain from dropping them as frequently. Also, along with his appearance being a favor to John Hughes, John Candy also improvised almost all of his lines.

There is a direct connection between Uncle Buck and Home Alone. In the UB, John Candy's character picks up his niece at New Trier West High School in Northfield IL. For HA, they used the "F/PE building" gym where they built the sets for the interior scenes. All the water scenes were shot at a set built into the swimming pool in the New Trier West campus. In addition, the title for the movie Breakfast Club came from the name for the New Trier High School detentions because they used to be in the early mornings before school.
