One fact I'm surprised that you didn't cover was that "Hey you guys!" pre-dated the Goonies. Sloth spent his life abused and neglected, his only friend being a television, which is why his heroic acts seem to come from movies or television shows (which is also why his breaking out as "Superman" was not so out-of-place.) The "Hey you guys!" holler was originally done by Rita Moreno at the beginning of the children's PBS show, The Electric Company.

You have spoken truth, my friend. Here's proof... kzread.info/dash/bejne/m4OTmtBuqZjLlM4.html ...thank me later (or hate me later). The comment section on this video is gold---pure gold. Feldman acts as if he's trying to get ants and/or field-mice out of his pants. Lots of flogging around. It's glorious. Then, there's Stern----who appears to be channeling Squidward from SpongeBob. Then, there's the dancing midget... the hippy "air-milking the cow"--- So much to take in (that's what she said). This video should be studied by scientists, philosophers and religious scribes. This video is an experience that must be experienced----it cannot be explained. It's a bona fide religious experience. It'll either usher you into the presence of God----or usher you straight to hell. What kind of a person you are is dependant upon what experience you have (whilst watching this video). It's the great equalizer. I've watched it dozens of times. I'm still looking for a profound, and hidden esoteric meaning. If it's there, it's one of those things that'll change the very course & fabric of your perception and overall reality. If I watch it many more times, I'm afraid I'll be served divorce papers.

Everything about the 80's was fucking incredible... the music, the movies, the tv shows, the colors, the clothing, the people... the mullets... proud to have been alive to take part in it. One year (1986 or 87) my brother even dressed as Jon Bon Jovi for Haloween! Yup... even proud of the blown out hair and pants! There will never be another decade like the 80's. Things have been pretty much the same since 1990.

As a goonie who grew up on the Oregon coast in the 90's, this film perfectly captured our unique small town culture. It's a beloved tradition for adults to share the fictional story of One Eyed Willy to get kids excited to explore the beaches for pirate treasure. Easily the best child gang film of all time.

Back in 2022, I was trying to ascertain some of the opera material that Robert Davi sang in his scenes. Instead of hitting pay-dirt, I ended up stumbling onto an interview he did where he talked about the realism in the Goonies storyline and how life is imitating art in so far that children have needed to take over paying the bills if their parents aren’t able to earn enough.

This movie is a great example of "lightning caught in a bottle." You can't remake the movie because not only is it beloved, but the composition of the cast can't be replicated. For instance, the casting of an asian as a gadget person could be seen as stereotyping, making fun of an overweight person could be perceived as fat shaming and the beloved sloth character-could be seen as making fun of developmentally disabled people. So, Goonies has attained that special fraternity of films like Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind.

That’s what I thought too...and yet how many other video games based on movies got a sequel before the film itself did? It’s a strange standout, but I suspect the copyright weirdness of the time simply allowed the game company to capitalize on how popular they knew the movie would be when it got to vhs...and I just went and looked it up and the more likely explanation is that the first goonies game was originally only on the Famicon and they needed something the NES. That’s boring 🤣

I never knew about the deleted scene. This was like my favorite movie besides for ghostbusters but that’s more to do with the fact they had a cartoon about it and bed sheets, hell they even had a Hi-C called ecto cooler it was green but orange flavored with slimer on it. The deleted gorilla part of the story stems from the Fratelli’s going to the zoo to steal the chains for Sloth...remember when Mama Fratelli says that she didn’t wanna go back to the zoo to steal another pair. The gorillas were to escape and there was supposed to be a story where the gorillas make another appearance later in the film...supposedly the original cut of the film was about 3 hours so they deleted quite a bit.

Two weeks ago I watched this movie for the first time in some 30 years. Enjoyed it just as much as when I was a kid too. I also didn't know Martha Plimpton was Keith Carradine's daughter until recently. Her character Stef Steinbrenner was appealing to me at the time; I've always had a thing for nerd girls. I hope Hollywood never tries to remake this movie, as they'll just screw it up.

When the movie premiered on ITV in 1989, the movie was censored and a lot of bad language was removed. Chunk meeting Sloth was edited which Sloth growling at Chunk was removed. It went from Chunk introducing himself to Sloth bouncing and giggling his chair. When the movie aired on ITV again in 1992, The Goonies finding Chester Copperpot's bug infested corpse was removed. It cut from Mikey saying "Look you guys! A lantern! Someone must had been here before us." to Chunk continue spilling his guts to the Frattellis. And addition, when the movie aired on ITV in 1989, the movie had no end credits and instead, it ended in a freeze frame and a caption "THE END" appearing on the screen.

The weird thing for me about the “deleted octopus scene”, is that when I first saw this movie, it was on a premium service through the friend of one of my parents. We recorded it to rewatch, and it included this scene. In later retail viewings of this movie, I was dismayed to find this scene missing-especially considering the fact that Data even mentions the octopus when the children are excitedly telling the attending adults of their adventures, right before the pirate ship is seen by all. For me, the fact the “final” edit jumps straight from the water slide to boarding the ship is jarring. How many people watched this movie without that scene and wondered what Data was talking about? How many people even caught the fact that Data mentions an octopus, or that they never see the octopus he’s talking about?

Thank you Minty for including the music from the C64 game! The Goonies commentary track is thoroughly unique, because you never see anything like it in any other special edition DVD, a commentary in which a camera lens pans back-and-forth to the cast while they are delivering the commentary. I’ve often wondered why other people haven’t tried doing something like this, especially with an ensemble film of this nature.

Quick story. I spent a brief time as a pro wrestler in Vancouver BC's local independent wrestling circuit. My wrestling name was The Machine, a character based on the killer from the Nicolas Cage movie 8mm. Anyway, one of my fellow wrestlers called himself Sloth, and dressed up as the character from The Goonies. He wore blue jeans, red suspenders, and a Superman shirt into the ring. He would carry Baby Ruth chocolate bars to the ring and toss them out to the fans and shout "HEY YOU GUUUUUYS!" when entering the ring. And some time after my early retirement, he even got a manager named Chunk. I think that you can guess what he looked like, lol.

Me and my sisters had goonie trading cards. They were scenes from the movie with line quotes on them.

Re uploads been happening a lot lately. But hey, I missed this one. Ps about the goonies 2 game, I do have a theory about it. My theory is that Annie is supposedly a descendent or distant friend of Willy and found the ship sailing the ocean, and she returned to the location where the ship was captured. Mikey was probably hanging around the area and met her, they became friends (and probably lovers ala The Little Mermaid). And since the fratelies hideout was close by the location, the plan goes into motion. I wonder if the booklet had a back story...

Some of the first ones had alot of the sound removed because of copyright on the music i think.

Hey thanks for the great video. I really enjoyed it. To this day, Goonies is one of my most favorite and memorable movie of all time and still watches from time to time and still listen to Cyndi Lauper.
