10,720 FEET AT THE TOP OF PAINTBRUSH DIVIDE: PAINTBRUSH CANYON TO PAINTBRUSH DIVIDE VIA STRING LAKE

Paintbrush Canyon is one of the most beautiful canyons in Grand Teton National Park and can be enjoyed almost year round. This canyon should not be missed during the short fall shoulder season in the park. Paintbrush Divide sits perched at an elevation just under 11,000 feet overlooking both Paintbrush Canyon and Cascade Canyon. Paintbrush Canyon and Cascade Canyon are the two most beautiful canyons in the Teton Range. The viewpoint Paintbrush Divide offers should not be missed when visiting the park. It's a long day hike or can be thoroughly enjoyed while backpacking. These two amazing canyons can be hiked as a giant loop but be prepared for 20+ miles. Paintbrush Canyon and Paintbrush Divide are must do hikes in Grand Teton National Park. Wildlife love this area of the park so keep an eye out for bears, elk, and moose. String Lake area is the best option in which to begin this incredible day hike.

    Hey Matt, Happy New Year! I'm starting to get caught up with your vids. The Tetons never cease to amaze me with all the excellent trails. You always take us on the cool trails. Hiking up to that beautiful area with all the colorful plants and the bear w/cub scene. For a moment I thought he would charge. Cheers for a healthy 2023.

    Happy New Year to you as well Rich! I’ve been super blessed to have been to some incredible places the past few years. Super pumped to release the next dozen or so vids😁. I’m really glad you enjoy them! I very much love creating them! Bears can be tricky 😬, Dalton and I saw 4 up on Mount Siyeh in Glacier. That slowed us down for a tad to say the least 🤣. Cheers!

    @@TheMountainMattlooks like its best to go counterclockwise starting with String Lake from what I’ve read so far. Is that the way you would recommend? A little side story because I remember watching your Dawson Pass vid. We tried to do the Pitamakin Dawson loop in late August in Glacier but a bear closed down a section going the Pitamakin way so we couldn’t do the loop. We decided to just do Dawson Pass and those last 2 miles to the top were tough, lol. The views were amazing but super windy at top, wish we could of done the whole thing.

  • @TheMountainMatt

    @TheMountainMatt

    Yes 👍🏼 I think counter clockwise would be best if you haven’t already seen Cascade Canyon. The only issue will be the push from Lake Solitude up to the divide, it will be a burner but the reveal will be amazing up there for you! All down hill from there as well! I was back out in Glacier the early part of September and that part of the trail was still closed do to bear activity. Cheers!

    @@TheMountainMattyeah, we already did Cascade and Death Canyons last time we were there. One more question, I heard there’s plenty of water sources on that trail which would cut down on how much water I’d carry, what do you use for water filtration?

  • @TheMountainMatt

    @TheMountainMatt

    8 ай бұрын

    We all take 2-3 liter bladders and then fill up with snow/glacier melt. That all depends on how big a day it is and how the melt seems to be. That all depends on how high up we are as well. We usually have a couple sports drinks each in our backpacks as well. Actually actively looking into a filter so we don’t have to carry so much weight since our adventures are getting bigger each year.

    Great video. Thanks for posting. I'm planning to do the Paintbrush to Cascade Canyon loop in July with my son. He's an athletic 12 year old. That trip will be life changing for ya'll! You will freak out when you see that area! If your child is used to hiking/backpacking I don't think a 2 day trip for that loop would create any issues. Two days is perfect to ingest it all in appropriately. They've had record snow out there this winter so you should have incredible waterfalls in July. Message me in the future if you have any other questions, cheers!

  • @TheMountainMatt

    It’s around a 20 mile loop all trail. Although, early June might still have a TON of snow up in the alpine. Plan accordingly 👍🏼. It wouldn’t be dangerous at all in my opinion except for the snow issue early in the season.

    I would 👍🏼 … at least micro spikes. That cliff section before the divide could be a little sketchy with snow drifts and ice from the winter. The trail up and down from Lake Solitude gets afternoon sun so it could be better. I’d love to know how it was this early.
