SUMMITING WASHINGTON'S BLACK PEAK IN NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK: BLACK PEAK VIA MAPLE PASS TRAIL

Washington's Black Peak is on the eastern side of North Cascades National Park and is by far one of the best hikes in the park and possibly the entire state. Black Peak originates at the popular Maple Pass Trailhead. Maple Pass Trail in Washington State is very popular and for good reason! This trail sits on the eastern cusp of North Cascades National Park. The Maple Pass Trailhead is the starting point to the summit of Black Peak which lies just inside the borders of North Cascades National Park. Black Peak is definitely one of the best trails in all of Washington and North Cascades National Park. Three incredible alpine lakes lie between the Maple Pass Trailhead and the summit of Black Peak. The first being the very popular Ann Lake, just a couple miles from the trailhead. Next, Lewis Lake, where the summit of Black Peak becomes very apparent. Finally, Wing Lake which sits directly below the approach and summit of Black Peak. This adventure can be conquered in one very strenuous day or split it up with an easier summit attempt by camping near Wing Lake. Either way, be ready for 15 total miles and around 5,500 feet of elevation gain. Although very tough, this adventure has beautiful alpine lakes and never ending peaks which showcase the "American Alps".

This is the area, obviously, the only way in is Washington Pass, which many take/hike down and out of Lake Chelan. It is the big peaks. Can't do the rock hop anymore. if you cannot do 20 squats with one leg might want to consider using the trails. Big rocks take stepping down 2 feet or more and one leg takes the load. Times 10,000.

Right on dude! Washington is such an underrated mountain state. I just moved to Utah and no one here seems to quite grasp how mountainous where I came from is haha. The Wasatch is great but it’s not a comparison alone to the cascades lol. People just mention the volcanos of WA but the North cascades are where it’s at! The mountains would’ve gone on ever further for ya if not for some of the smoke you had. Black Peak is a classic, did it a couple years ago in October. Loved it from start to finish! Hope you get to see more of the state on your future adventures🤙

Just curious, since you've experienced a whole lot of incredible!?! 😲😍 5,500 feet is insane! I'd never try this one, but definitely impressed. Hoping to get up to Sahale Glacier in the Cascades... "only" about 4,000 feet on the ascent, trail the whole way. Looks mind blowing, but since there's no route finding or scrambling it might be too tame for you guys! 😉🤷‍♂️

Well... we were on track to make it back to our vehicle around 5 or 6. We were flying that particular day. When we made it down the scree field with the snow on it, Dalton realized that he had left his phone up on the saddle 🤣. So I waited while he went back up to get his phone. It only took him around 30-40 mins but he added another 500-1000 feet of vert to his total 🤣! I got a nice nap in while I waited 🤣. I completely forgot about that story!
