1 HORSEPOWER MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE! JOHN DEERE 2038r vs 3039R

Compare the John Deere 2038r tractor vs the John Deere 3039r tractor. There is only a 1 horsepower difference between these two machines, so they must be pretty similar in capabilities, right? WRONG! :) This is why I stress over and over that horsepower is overrated. It's not that horsepower isn't important, but it can potentially lead to some very bad conclusions on determining the right tractor for you. Many other factors go into deciding the right tractor and much of that will be based on the tasks you need to accomplish, budget, options, features, etc that you want on your machine.
So, hopefully this closer look comparing the 2038r vs 3039r will give you some insight into why other factors should be considered besides just horsepower. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by. If you like what you see, then would you please consider subscribing? Have a great day!

Any suggestions? I like the tractor in this video that has the cab. Thanks for explaining all of the differences of each of these tractors. They engines are physically identical, the 3039r just has a minor torque bump to probably compensate for the extra curb weight. This same concept applies to a silverado with a 6.2 vs a camaro with a 6.2. The camaro is much faster than the silverado despite the same engine and trans, but the silverado can tow 13000lbs while the camaro can't tow. Both 420hp, both 460lb-ft of torque, but both wildly different vehicles.

I can only get the 13 to 1400 hay bales 2 high and it struggles to get that 2nd one up. The 800lb bales will go 3 high and no trouble at all. Just on hills it lacks power, and that's all western pa is, up and down. Wish I could afford a 4066r with a cab, but that's just a pipe dream. Haha

Rosy is obviously a well loved member of the family, I hope she continues to get better. The HP rating is way overrated in almost all cases. A tractor is a tool and needs to be sized for the application you have in mind. My opinion is the ability to get specific attachments would rate much higher than the HP setting. I like the range of the options on the larger series but part of the consideration for me is the ability to use it in smaller places around the homestead. It is hard to beat a subcompact tractor for that. Thanks for sharing the information. Excellent video as always..

john deere would have it going on if theyd come up with a MSL loader for the 3 series. and at least 1 scv.

I used to think that but the MSL reduces the digging angle and the lift capacity. This is why its only found on bigger tractors.

My hypothesis is it's due to the cushioned spring design on the 3r Series loaders. I don't think that's found on any of the other series. At least, that's my theory until something better comes along :)

@@Chris_L034 Kubota figured out how to do it hydraulically and going up only, at least 10 years ago when I was trying to buy one. I did like the fact that it was a selector lever on the loader valve. But mechanical self leveling also gains lifting capacity and works up or down.

@@Formulabruce Westendorf advertises lift capacity increases on their loaders with mechanical self leveling. And as far as digging angle, the bucket is adjustable to compensate more than enough in most situations. I have had and used both and personally, I like the mechanical over the hydraulic self leveling.

I know you did a comparison between the 3038E and 3039R a while back, and I made a comment how I really like my 3038E--especially the $20k savings. In all fairness, the 3038E is a heck of a workhorse that has surpassed my expectations and deserves kudos for it's total reliability (mine is a 2016 with over 1,000 hrs) without any problems or gripes. On a farm operation, simplicity always beats fancy options that cause problems after new wears off.
