Elgin Baylor announced his retirement nine games into the '71-'72 season. That night, the Lakers began a winning streak that would last for two months, totaling 33 games. That streak still stands as the longest winning streak in the history of major American professional team sports.

However, the Lakers win in 88' kicked of a streak of repeats that ended when the Spurs did not repeat in 2000. 87 - Lakers 88 - Lakers 89 - Pistons 90 - Pistons 91 - Bulls 92 - Bulls 93 - Bulls 94 - Rockets 95 - Rockets 96 - Bulls 97 - Bulls 98 - Bulls

Saying a certain team from the 40s has no connection to a current team is funny to consider. OK the washington capitols have no common history with the wizards. What about the minneapolis lakers with the LA lakers? The only thing connecting them is that a few decades ago the owners of the LA lakers payed the original owner of the minneapolis lakers for a franchise spot.

It's the same franchise. The other franchises either moved away or folded. The NBA made a deal with Charlotte to keep the Hornets history. But in reality, the current Hornets franchise has no ties to the former one. The former franchise is now the Pelicans. And the Pelicans don't share the New Orleans Jazz history. That belongs to the Utah Jazz, who moved. When Seattle gets a team, they will be called the Sonics. But they're not the same franchise as the former Sonics became the OKC Thunder. Make sense now?

LeBron averaging 3ppg in the fourth quarter of the 2011 Finals sounds bad. It is actually much worse. King James averaged half that at 1.5ppg for the middle four games (Gm 2: 2pts | Gm 3: 2pts | Gm 4: 0pts | Gm 5: 2pts). Most of his 18 points were scored in two games (Gm 1: 5pts | Gm 6: 7pts). *Note Game 2 Miami lost by 2 points (95-93) Game 4 Miami lost by 3 points.(86-83)

@@codyeble6764It’s not hate to look at facts. Only LeBron fans look at LeBron’s losses in the finals and say they don’t count. Jordan was also a 22 year old kid who got swept by a Celtics dynasty with no help. But LeBron supporters hold that against him even though Jordan performed better than LeBron in their respective series. Jordan: LeBron: 43.7ppg 22.0ppg 6.3 reb 7 Reb 5.7 ast 6.8 ast 2.3 stl 1.0 stl 1.3 blk 0.5 blk 46%fg 35%fg 25%3pt 20%3pt 77%ft 69%ft Even if you compare the second consecutive year Jordan got swept by that Celtics dynasty with no help, he outperformed LeBron. Every stat except assists, he was better and they tied in rebounds. In all honesty, it’s not that people hate LeBron. It’s that people who know the actual facts hate that people say LeBron is better than Jordan. They base their arguments not off of individual accomplishments or accolades or skills or championships or winning (because Jordan beats LeBron in all of those categories). They base them off of: 1. perceived difficulty of winning -Because of perceived difficulty of winning, not only do Jordan’s championships not count, but LeBron’s championship losses also don’t count. 2. hypothetical accolades (what LeBron should have or could have won) -If LeBron could have won DOPY or at least one more MVP or championship, etc. It’s just as good as actually winning it. 3. longevity -Because LeBron has played more games for a longer period of time, his cumulative totals surpass Jordan in almost every category. 4. stats (that are higher than Jordan’s) -LeBron has a slightly better FG%, better assists per game, rebounds per game, and 3pt%. Only focusing on the higher stats than Jordan and leaving out the rest to make LeBron seem superior. 5. records (that Jordan doesn’t hold) -breaking Kareem’s points record (longevity), having the most total playoff points (longevity), top ten all time in assists (longevity), etc. Only picking the records that Jordan hasn’t broken or doesn’t hold to claim LeBron is a better player. 6. physical attributes (height, weight, strength, & speed) -Using physical gifts as a way to claim what LeBron is hypothetically capable of in other eras of basketball. Assuming physical gifts and athleticism are what determine a player’s greatness more than their skills, mentality, work ethic, and performance under pressure. 7. hall of fame teammates -Because most of LeBron’s teammates haven’t yet been inducted in the HOF, they claim it was easier for Jordan to win because of his “stacked” team. 8. finals appearances -because LeBron has appeared in more, he must be better than Jordan. 9. coaching -LeBron didn’t have a hall of fame coach, so Jordan apparently had an unfair advantage 10. carrying scrubs to the finals -LeBron has carried subpar and average teammates to the finals, but Jordan has not. Though LeBron never won on these 2 occasions, it’s apparently worth more than winning a championship. Anything they can use to prop up LeBron as the goat over Jordan, all while making excuses for Jordan’s excellence and making excuses for LeBron’s failures. Even though Jordan’s accomplishments outweigh LeBron’s in a shorter career with less help, his supporters act like history didn’t happen. They act like facts didn’t happen. They try to explain away everything Jordan did, while no one who is pro Jordan tries to explain away LeBron’s accomplishments. There’s no need because LeBron accomplished less. He can keep his longevity stats and records and still wouldn’t eclipse Jordan as the goat. LeBron is recognized as a Great Player… just not the greatest. However, people keep claiming he is when it’s not true. It makes people, who understand that Jordan is the most decorated individual player of all time, get bothered when the two are compared. We only began to “hate” on LeBron when LeBron Fans started hating on Jordan. The only difference is our “hate” is based on reality over recency. We’ve seen what a real goat does, so we aren’t fooled by a false goat who does less.
