Denis King
’s career encompasses almost every aspect of show business from singing and performing to recording and composing.
In the 1950s and early 60s he was a member of Britain’s first ever boy band The King Brothers, the most successful pop group of that era and the youngest Variety act to play the London Palladium.
An award-winning TV composer (including Black Beauty theme and Lovejoy) and theatre composer (Privates On Parade) he has collaborated with such legends as Alan Ayckbourn, Sammy Cahn and Don Black and worked (and played) with such stars as Tony Bennett, Nina Simone, Peter Sellers, Howard Keel, Lena Horne, Alma Cogan, Albert Finney, Dame Edna Everage, Maureen Lipman, Elaine Stritch, Dudley Moore, Bruce Forsyth, Ronnie Corbett, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and even Jimi Hendrix.
His memoir, KEY CHANGES 2020 is an extremely frank personal account of the highs and lows of showbusiness, and the stories he tells are hilarious, poignant, and sometimes eyeopening.

A Great masterpiece 👏👏👏👏 Thank you for your music 🎶🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for your kind words! DK
I remember around 1960 sat around the breakfast table with the radio on listening to standing on the corner Happy days
The most beautiful theme tune ever , in my opinion.
Thank you, Alan. Kind words.
Eric ad-libbing again!
Looking forward to hearing the music and the stories behind them Denis.
Have you ever played the song black and White rag, it's one of my favourite songs, I don't suppose I could put a sneaky request in could I. Andy and Bunny.. 😮
Love the personality, that was brilliant really enjoyed it fantastic, ❤.
Their show was the highlight of the tv week , thanks Sid and Dick your scripts genius , Eric and Ernie never be bettered
Pure Class. Worthy of a classic film score. Thanks for the music Denis.
Thank you. They don't write 'em like that anymore.
So lovely, Denis.
The Virginian and Black Beauty are two of my favourite theme tunes.
Who knew they'd be connected!
Cold, cold, Shower and 6-5 Jive were my favourite tunes from the King Brothers
Seems like 100 years ago to me!
@@deniskingmusichappy days.... Can you still remember how to belt those tunes out? I was watching you guys earlier here on KZread, performing 6-5 Jive from the 6-5 Special. The 6-5 Special must have been a great experience. I got to know Don Lang through working in the same place as his sister in law. I saw him and The Frantic 5 play numerous times in the 80's. I saw Vince Eager play, Terry Dene, Wee Willie Harris, the Dallas Boys, the Vernon's Girls.....as well as dozens of original Rock n roll and Rockabilly stars from America
"Hallo, Cheeky!"
Wonderful Video and very funny. This brings back childhood memories of watching our small rented television in our house on the SE London council estate. It's great to see them all again. What a different world it was all those years ago.
Ireplacable
The thing is with this piece of music is the beautiful shots of the horse on the title sequence go hand in hand the pacing and the timing couldn’t get anymore perfect You can’t help but listen to the theme without thinking of the sequence in mind and that is a fine testament of a great theme.
They filmed the opening sequence to my track.
😮😊❤
Those drug references were over the heads of the audience - just for the musos watching..😅
You were always on the telly when i was a kid , great to see this. Thank you ❤
Even though it was a birthday special for Julian, that was a lovely Sunday morning treat for us all! Thank you everyone and I hope that Julian has an enjoyable day.
I think he did. We missed the party, too far: hence the video!
You are such a talent Denis. Its so lovely to see you having so much fun playing the Piano and singing this birthday tribute to your friend Julian. Keep playing Denis. Best wishes to you and your family.
Thanks so much. We have a good time here...
Very entertaining! That fine piano is sounding lovely!
Haha...a nice 'collected canter' there DK....LOL ....As kids we played at being 'horses' too...trotting around haha....particularly after watching an episode Black Beauty on a Sunday afternoon...however we were only nine or ten at the time haha....x love it
The wife's idea....what can I say...
Awesome
Kettle drums French horn strings choir and a horse running free, what’s not to like ❤
I only wish my publisher had allowed Lloyds Bank to use it...
Hi Denis, can I just ask, did you use to front/conduct a band on a tv chat/comedy show for another celebrity who’s show it was?
Yes, there was a short lived comedy (longer on radio) called Hello Cheeky with Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Junkin and Barry Cryer.
@@deniskingmusic thanks for that Denis, yes I remember Hello Cheeky, I thought I’d seen you somewhere leading a band!
@@grahamhill2267 There may have been others but..memory escapes me!
Denis…a massive heartfelt thanks for writing this. It’s essentially a time machine that transports me back immediately to my grans on a Sunday afternoon. The happiest days of my life and I can return anytime I listen to this. Ur a star 🌟 !
What lovely words! Thanks so so much.
You deserve more credit for your writing. I love Privates on Parade
I loved it too. Thanks. And met my wife of 40 years because of that show, so doubly grateful.
1964 ❗😁👏👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Denis, these are always an absolute joy to watch. They are incredibly relaxing and so personal. Thank you very much.
Thanks so much!

The More I See You introduced by Dick Haymes whom my father met when he retired for a time to Ireland.
Delightful playing, Denis. By the way, the Michael Palin book is a great read, isn't it!
It's superb. He gave me that copy, signed!
I love the tune!
When Michael Caine lived in America he would watch Black Beauty on VHS because he was so homesick for the British Countryside.
I never knew that. I played golf with him once, years ago.
Great tribute, good job :)
He was defintely a one off!
definitely...
こんにちは。素晴らしいです。あなたのビデオはとても素敵です
It had to be enjoyable. ❤
It (almost) always is.
❤
A two-legged horse?
Very rare but often sighted in this part of the country.
Once a week all through the seventies I went horse riding at a local stables. Whenever we galloped this amazing tune would run through my head, perfectly in time with the hoofbeats. When I hear it now it brings back that wind-in-the-hair feeling of being young and foolish! Thank you Denis!
Kind words, many thanks!
He sounded like an absolute legend of a person. Beautiful playing I might add, May he rest in peace as music binds us all.
It does indeed!
It always sounds like a breath of fresh air.❤
I had a great team there!
A brave man to stand there😅.
Idiotic, says the Wife.
Lovley ❤.
A lovely tribute to your friend Denis. Its always lovely to hear and see you play the piano.
Thank you so much.
beautiful Denis, music can really say more than words sometimes.
It certainly can. DK
😂😂😂😂
Last week I was at a children horse event as a photographer and one of the contestants used Black Beauty as the music to do her ride on. I was so touched this kid used the music of my favorite TV series which brought me to riding lessons as an eight year old back in the seventies :)
How lovely! DK
Super! 👍
