    I was out of KZread for some time, but Im glad that the first thing I did was to re-subscribe to your channel, you tackle all the amazing topics with academic background while STILL making it a cool video. I aways wondered if Charles de Anjou might have been a sociopath, he did horrible things to get what he wanted, including killing the 14 year old Konradin of Hohenstauffen. As a Catholic, saddens me to say but the Pope is absolutely complicid in the murder of what was even at the time, a very young lad.

    As an Italian with some academic background I can confirm the high historiographical accuracy of this content. I love how you highlighted some of the subtlest politological aspects of Italian fascism. The scanning of the authoritarian, dictatorial and totalitarian fase (against Arendt's simplistic statement regarding the totalitarian "imperfection"), the Socialistic background and anti-bourgeois beliefs of Mussolini and their impact on the Italian middle classes opening towards US lifestyle and products, the non-at all obvious remarks regarding the connection between the broader political failure and the actually satisfactory military capacity against Ethiopia, Spain and Albania, the absolutely important and incredibly neglected German lack of loyalty towards Italy since the beginning of the Axis and the previous conflict including the quasi war the Brenner and the Italo-Austrian anti-German connection before the Anschluss and much more. This channel is a pearl and so incredibly reliable. Thanks for all of it

    Schwerpunkt notoriously quotes and cities both primary sources and historiography in his work. A Doctor in Medieval history can easily talk for hours about historical topics without any of his content being invalidated by lack of references: that's how professors work, in case one has never been at uni. If one doesn't even know this about the channel and history in general I wonder what they can come up with next. Imagine going to a PhD whose work you don't even know to claim something false about it: in academia it wouldn't end well. That's why both youtube and reddit are not academia. Not most publications in which famous historians don't cite directly much: which is pretty typical in the disclosuring world. The worst are youtube channels saying: look I made this 10 minutes long video reading this book and not explaining anything about the learning process. We live in dark times

  • @valentinehrler8414
    @valentinehrler8414Күн бұрын

    This is also great because of the mentally feeble who claim that Schwerpunkt doesn't cite works or studies. Get over it: not just he knows them well but he's beyond it and when he makes a tactical analysis he literally reads and criticizes both sources and historiography. Without mentioning that he profusely discusses scholarship and often makes explicit, insightful and direct references to it.

    Italian history is so underrated and important. While in the last decades pop-culture interested itself in it much of the same Anglo-American approach remains targeting the layman's cliches and misunderstandings. It's completely true by the way that nobody knows the 20th century history of man Western European countries, which makes literally no sense and rises many questions about what kind of world people think to live in with all the dreadful consequences of the case.

    The Reformed Papacy definitively embodies the inherent Latin-Germanic cultural, moral and spiritual superiority over the Orthodox and pagan worlds. The accomplishments of the Roman Church in these very generations Europe wide speak by themselves. It's not a surprise that lesser people who fail within the West today lean out of such standards to self-sabotage while the core of the Imperial Catholic Tradition remains the most disproportionally advanced center of the world.

    I strongly agree on how civilizationally dependent the Byzantines were on the Westerners, both as allies (Venetians, Frankish mercenaries) and enemies (Siculo-Normans). This video makes an excellent point to show how much Alexios' army was tactically dependent on the Anglo-Norse as well: as soon as their line collapsed, the Latins smashed right through the Byzantine line.
