    46K is way to much for a SR5 Tacoma. The Sports and Off Roads I've seen near me were all around 51k, which is insane for a 4 cylinder turbo Tacoma. These weren't even hybrid. The Pros' and Trail Hunter editions are starting at like 64k-65k. Toyota has lost their damn minds!

Certainly they have earned my business given how absurdly reliable my last 20 years with their cars and trucks have been. Look around, everything is filled with Tech and expensive as fuck.

    I’m with you on that. Tundra wheels I can live with, but none of the Tacoma wheels look good. In fact, they are quite terrible. Except for the TRD edition ones that you get aftermarket. And Nissan wheels are quite boring.

    Thanks for the video. I bought a poor condition '07 Pathfinder for $500 and the right side exhaust is clogged. I narrowed it down to the right side secondary cat with a pressure gauge threaded into the O2 sensor holes. When I took out the secondary cat it looks somewhat normal except for a lot of gray powder. I can see with my flashlight that the primary cat is hollowed out like yours. I don't think the PO did it because he was clueless about car stuff. Maybe it disintegrated on it's own and then clogged the downstream cat? Anyway I'm planning to replace both but I'm using cheap Amazon cats because the whole car isn't worth the price of OEM ones. Struggling with the bolts that are under the damn heat shield. They are way, way more rusted than yours and access isn't good. I've only soaked them with penetrating oil so far, hopefully that's enough. Thanks again for the video.

  • @MaximumDIYGarage
    @MaximumDIYGarage4 күн бұрын

    You’re welcome, Alex! I think you may be right, they just disintegrate and turn into dust (primaries and then they clog the downstream secondaries). If your state doesn’t require emissions testing then leave them hollow (straight piped). I was lucky, my truck spent most of its life in CA. Also my bolts were easy to remove, so I suspect someone was there not too long before I bought the truck. You’re right about the cost. I bought mine for $2,800 and the parts and labor to replace cats was $2,600, lol. Still to me it was worth it as I did I it for half price by DIYing it. Let me know how it goes with Amazon cats, I’ve heard there may be some fitment issues and some finagling maybe required. Good luck. It’s a big job!

  • @alexkram
    @alexkram4 күн бұрын

    @@MaximumDIYGarage It came off easily! Luckily the rusted bolts came off without any drama. My county in Nevada doesn't require emission testing but the neighboring one does and I'm going to make it pass so that it's more sellable. I probably could have gotten away with a hollowed out secondary cat but I'd already ordered it because that is where the clog was, so I might as well install it now. I'm retired and like fixing things in the garage so that's why I bough this turd, to give me something to work on.

    Where did you get the replacement cats from? And part number please. About how long did this job take? Did you have to remove the front tires, and wheel well covers for access? • @MaximumDIYGarage

    Hi! I bought the cats from a Nissan Dealer parts department (had to drive 140 miles round trip) as they ran a special if I turned in the old cats and would have saved $1000. But it turned out my old cats were hollowed out by PO, so I could not turn them in. So it was $1,500. You May need to verify your part # with your dealer parts dept giving them your VIN as you have a Pathfinder. It took me all day to do the job. I did have to remove the wheel liners and had the truck jacked up in the front with tires off. I hope this helps. Good luck!

  • @izzyp5713
    @izzyp57134 күн бұрын

    @@MaximumDIYGarage Thank you for the quick response, greatly unexpected. 1500 for both cats still seems pretty reasonable. You didn't show if you replaced the secondary cats, did you just reinstall the original back in? It kinda makes sense, since the O2 sensors are before and after the primary cats. Did you clean the secondary cats with any solvents, or nah?? Thanks again.

    Put the wheel nuts on to prevent thread damage and smack on it with a short handled sledge hammer going around in a circle. I have never damaged a rotor in 50 years of pulling wrenches. I guess I should clarify. You don’t hit the friction surface of the rotor you hit in between the studs and wheel nuts should be threaded so the stud is not protruding through the outside of the nut. If that does not work apply heat evenly around the rotor mounting surface avoiding direct heat to the studs . A propane torch with MAP gas is cheap and works great. ( Plumbers torch)
