“The Imperial Guard fought to the end…..” I prefer the Guards reply when requested to surrender involving the “word of Cambronne.”

My maternal grandmother, born in the Victorian era, used to say "it was like the relief of Mafeking" when referring to events of minor importance that turned out well.

Wow, that was an eye opener!! I have been watching Zulu since it came out, and Zulu Dawn as well. I was shocked at all the truths you told, the most being about Hook! Thanks for such a great telling of the real history behind one of my favorite films! You earned a subscriber!

TY. A man who showed up for a war, but on his own terms. Donald could be 50% of service men on that score.

Now the west is turning this around and saying China is responsible for the Opioid crisis. The Brits were the master and originators of any drug crisis on a nation. I wonder when this bill will be due?

One of the often overlooked TV roles was that of a Time Traveller in the 1960's series 'Dr Who'. No , he didn't play the title role, but that of "The Monk" (it was implied he was a fellow Time Lord) - a person who had a later model of the doctors TARDIS, that had travelled back to 1066 Northern England to prevent the Viking invasion and thus helping King Harold defeat William at the battle of Hastings. The Doctor disabled the other TARDIS, trapping The Monk in medieval England

😮😮 Was this after the west coast tsunami which ran up the Severn & destroyed Cardiff ??? 😮😮 I slept through the 1987 hurricane because Michael Fish assured me it was all fine 😂😂😂 I walked to school and was 1 of about 10 students out of a 1000 who stood at the gates bewildered by the schools missing roof. Our deputy headmaster was indeed ruthless but this was a touch too far😂😂 He actually married one of the girl student's when it was no longer illegal. Immoral and weird but in 1987 behind closed doors meant something a little different . Same school as Russell Brand who was a year below me. 😮 I remember the skies going dark after Mt St Helen's erupted as well we were sent home early then. Nature, holy handbag. 😮😮😮😮

Though not mentioned in the film, about 800 guards were Korean. They treated the British & Commonwealth POW's worse than the Japanese owing to the fact that the Korean ethnic minority in Japan is looked down on as filth so the abuse the Japanese guards showd them they took out on the POW's.

Zulu is one of my all time favourite movies. I have Men of Harlech as a ring tone. Nigel Green’s portrayal of Colour Sargent Bourne is right up there with Sam Elliot’s portrayal of Command Sargent Major Plumley in We Were Soldiers. His best line came when the battle for the La Drang Valley Colonel Moore says something g to the effect he understood how Custer felt to which Plumley responds “Custer was a pussy. You ain’t no pussy”. Great lines from great actors playing great soldiers.

What was the Western Powers and Japan doing in China and their Capitol City? The Boxers were fighting to save their motherland against invaders with their bare fists and sword against guns and cannon, wow what a fair fight and against all the European Powers, USA and Japan. Are you all so proud of that?

Also worth a mention that he played "The Meddling Monk" in Doctor Who. The first Time Lord to appear in the series other than The Doctor himself and his Grand daughter Susan. Never realised Butterworth had such a history though. I now have even more respect for the man than I had previously 👍

A "Humble Man" really? This soldier is a senior officer in the British army, he wouldn't have achieved that rank being humble. Please justify describing an exceptional person as being humble. Its unbelievable the times I comment on KZread about individuals being described as humble, as though its a virtue. Not only is it wrong, but describing exceptional individuals as humble, denigrates our humananity into something even less than a primate.

The The musket school For where it stood, it's now Sainsbury's, but. But if you go into sainsbury there is a small picture history on the wall . I'm always repeating the history of colours Sargent borne how he served here. Be interesting if Frank Bourne came back & see what happened to the Muskets school where it stood , he be shocked what happened to Hythe

I still remember watching a documentary on the real colonel, and it was really interesting, although still harrowing. He survived and returned home, but was really worried that many people would accuse him of collaborating with the Japanese. One of the producers of the documentary reassured him, that he would record everything he could remember and to me,the colonel did everything he could to protect his men.Although one bad example was, that he did warn of the risks of any attempted escapes. Sadly, some blokes were caught, and the Japanese bayoneted them to death.

I would say neither, both, something else? A psychopath is a psychiatric diagnosis, and it is always tricky to diagnose people whom you have never met, whom you have never examined, and whose story may be partially mythical. So I would argue you can't really say that she's a psychopath to begin with. Also, you can't really judge a first century Icenii by the standards of 21st century Western culture...

Years ago I watched a fascinating documentary where scientists were using DNA info from descendants of plague victims and survivors. If you had two markers you were more or less immune. If you had one marker and in good health you would get sick but more than likely survive. The Minister and Gravedigger probably had both. The Minister's wife sadly did not. They were also testing people with HIV and it appeared people who did not practice safe sex with people who were infected and were not infected themselves may also have both markers.
