Junk’d Up

Hi and welcome. My name is BJ. I'm an avid thrifter and DIY'er specializing in painting furniture.

My goal is to empower you through creativity. I want to give you the tools and techniques and, more importantly, the confidence to paint your own furniture.

My focus is bringing you well edited tutorials without a ton of fluff and extras, just the basics on how I create statement finishes on furniture.

You'll find mostly furniture painting tutorials with a couple thrifting videos thrown in every once in a while. And every so often I'll publish a video on the business part of flipping furniture.

If this sounds good to you, please subscribe!

A little about me- I am a Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint retailer in Noblesville, IN. I am a native New Yorker currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. I have painted furniture for close to 25 years and have had my business since 2012. I've grown a lot as a furniture painter, learning new skills and making lots of mistakes. It's just paint!

    I need help. I have a bench/chest that is stained in this horrible orangy stain. I have no experience refinishing furniture so I’ve been looking up how to do it without sanding and restaining & I just watched all your videos and love your style & techniques. So I was thinking about if I painted multiple coats & then did the wet distressing. The problem is on your projects, the original wood will peek through…which looks good depending on the color of the wood. But since my wood is the color of over cooked carrots, I DONT want it to show at all. Do you have any suggestions? If I did a varnish between coats of paint do you think that would help at all?

    What are you spraying while you paint? Water? Also can you explain the inlays(?)

  • @JunkdUp
    @JunkdUp29 күн бұрын

    @@srcworm I am spraying water using a misting bottle so it’s a very fine spray. Paint Inlays are made only by Iron Orchid Designs. They are artist grade paint on a carrier sheet. When the inlay is laid into wet paint the artist paint is embedded into the paint on your project.

    Clever-Clever-Clever! Wonderfully creative use of this mold. You were actually quite reserved in how you painted her repeating image. I wonder what it would look like if you really went to town and abstracted the faces with bright colors and designs. Maybe I'll give it a go....? You always inspire me,

    Beautiful work, BJ. You are right. Something about gold "trim" that brings that Umph (is that a word?) to the piece. The only thing is that i would have put the stencil designs on the sides because the top is usually covered by stuff. Love your creativity, your honesty, and your process. Keep it up! I am all caught up with your videos. Hope that you are having an awesome summer! And, anytime you want to share more projects, I am your fan.

    BJ, what a fabulous piece! It's absolutely gorgeous. Congrats on your new job for Turquoise Iris Journal. I can totally relate to everything you went through here. Painting/redesigning furniture is a journey through our emotions. It's not for the faint if heart and, with every project , we grow, learn more about ourselves and become stronger! Congratulations on all of your accomplishments. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. By the way, there is an Australian furniture artist, VonBoo who decoupages with Mint by Michelle papers a lot. She actually uses varnish as glue. I don't know what her KZread channel is called. She explains and shows the process on both KZread and in-sta-gr-am. Off to your next video.... Can't believe i missed 4 of your projects!

    Well, I consider you an artist. You like to create and your style is unique and you always seem to be willing to push and try new things. Sure, some things work out better than others, but what matters is that desire to create, the need to make art regardless. I've had that urge since I was a tiny child, always loving color and making things, and entering my 7th decade on this planet, I continue to need to make art. And even though I've never sold anything, I'm an artist. And clearly so are you!

    I loved all three of your projects, I've always admired your creativity, and your bold approach. But.... I had trouble watching since that repetitive 'music' you had playing drove me nuts! Better no sound but your voice than those constant repeating notes that makes me feel like I'm on hold waiting for someone to pick-up on my phone. Please choose something more pleasing to play as background music to calm our nerves. Many thanks!
