Thanks for this! After all the internet hype about GL-4 vs GL-5, I was left scratching my head. I ordered the Driven GL-4 for my Ford top loader.
Is the S10 T-5 NWC or WC? Can an S10 T-5 live behind a 500-600hp LS with upgrades? Can I make a WC an S10 T-5? The truck will be autocrossing and street driving mainly with occasional drag racing for fun. Thanks Paul, you have a tremendous body of work that I hope to someday retain some of it.
It's no longer the same as when Hurst Campbell owned the company in Pennsylvania. quality has suffered since then. My shifter was built and installed by Hurst in their Warminster Pa plant in 1969 and it's rock solid. Never misses....never hangs up.
Wow all this done without a single animation. Awesome work.
Ottimo video BRAVO! (dall'Italia) Sulla mia Mercedes W203 Benzina (2000 cc) metterò questi lubrificanti : Cambio : Castrol Transmax Universal LL 75W90 (GL4/GL5) Differenziale posteriore : Castrol Transmax Limited Slip LL 75W140 (GL5) La casa MERCEDES non si esprime sui lubrificanti da usare per ingranaggi, anzi li dichiara sigillati permanente per la vita (cambio e differenziale) Entrambi i lubrificanti completamente sintetici (full 100%)
Thanks
I looked high and low for GL4 found it with redline and royal purple. But now I think I will go with GL5...
I love your videos please can you help I have a 3925661 muncie four speed I don't know which shifter rods to buy to get it to work I have a hurst shifter comp shifter or buy all new shiter and rod kits
Hurst kits are dependi on the make and model car you are putting it in. Also the year. Example Corvettes are different than mustangs. Corvettes and chevelles are different. Be specific as to what you need and use my contact information in the video description to get a hold of me
I have looked at your inventory on 5speeds for quite a while now and you are out of M22W or Z gear sets, but I noticed they are soon back in stock? I have a M20 3925660 case and I want to convert it to a M22. These videos are super valuable and helpful.
We are in the process of making our own gear sets. The Italian gears have been problematic with delivery and they keep on getting pushed back. I was told now late June. I have really given up on dealing with them. It's not a dependable company and if you have a breakage issue you are going to have issues trying to get replacement parts so more than likely I will be dropping the line
@@GearBoxVideo Thank you for your reply. That sounds awesome. Cant wait until you get some sets ready. Cheers
Wonderful video, and very interesting. I am looking into rebuilding my T4, how similar is it to the t5? Does your book cover the t4 at all? Keep up the good work!
The only difference between the t4 and the T5 are the 5th speed sets. Everything else is the same. However, my book does not cover non-world class transmissions. So the t4 with full under that category
2 gallons of Mineral spirts for $20 ! those are the good ole days. lol. Great video.
Right!!
Hi, thx for your great vid. I'm struggling with the one set screw..I put heat, shocked it, put more heat...Nada! Other one eventually came loose. I get close to stripping it but back off. Any advice?
If you strip the hex you may have to use one of those tools for stripped hexes and drive it in and try and shock and loosen the sit screw
@@GearBoxVideo Great thank you.
Bummer just saw this now, missed you at PRI 2023. Next year?
I was not at the 2023 show. But it will be at the show this year. Follow my Instagram for updates. Instagram is @5speeds
Fascinating
I have a 1983 Jeep CJ7 with a t5 transmission. I need to replace the lower gear cluster. I find them on eBay but are the gears all the same or do I need a specific tooth count? Do you sell the rebuild kits and the parts I will need? I would like to order from you if you have them. Your videos are a huge help.
I do not sell kits or parts for those transmissions. The gear is pretty much are all the same Just make sure the tooth counts are the same
My neighbor was a big hot rod builder back in the 60s and 70s and he was good people. and when he found out I was into cars he brought me into his shop and showed me the kind of stuff I'd only seen in magazines. He was rebuilding an original 426 hemi out of his buddies Road Runner that his step son had damaged by playing with fireworks in the garage as you do. But he had a Gm pattern 2wd 3 speed with OD that he gave me in exchange for cutting his grass all that summer and I'm pretty sure he made out on that deal lol. But he helped me put it in my 89 camaro😮, yeah its a frankencar. Over time I've automated the 12v solenoid with some cheapy electronics but it works fantastically, it's older than me and the car it's in and it's a conversation piece. Donny passed away in 2019 and I miss him everyday rip bud
How do I know if the Tremec 13-52-065-922 gearbox is what I use on the RF troller? whether WC or STD without opening the gearbox,
The numbers on the side of the case are just casting numbers for a case. The actual model number is stamped on a tag located on the extension housing
Hi - I just watched the "rebuild Super T10" video. I found your KZread channel when looking for best info on transmission. It looked like you used Driven GO 80w90 oil. My use for my ST-10 is short road races (vintage racing). Is this the best oil for thatpurpose?
The Royal Purple Max Gear lube has been a favorite as well
Dear sir: 1) I'm a woman and absolute, hopeless and helpless newbie when it comes to cars and car mechanics 2) I'm from Eastern Europe and English is my third foreign language. That being said: I understood your video perfectly and now I am a little bit better driver who FINALLY understands how the darn thing works :) THANK YOU! Who knows how many lives you saved by this video! Shout out from Eastern Europe and keep up the good work! <3
Thank you so much!
wish u all ze best
Thank you so much for this video! Helped me a lot getting a similar gearbox rebuilt.
So glad to find this video. I have a 66 GTO and the problem I'm having is when I shift into third the gearbox goes into 1st and the shifter gets locked up in the 3rd gear position. I have to manually move the lever back to neutral. I've burned the piss out of my forearm on the exhaust doing it on the side of the rode! Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Watch my secrets revealed video for a fix to that exact problem
Thank you for making this video. Very easy to follow, and you've taken the fear out of me to try it myself. Cheers
Thanks for this video Paul. Great explanation on why this transmission was developed and how it works. What transmission fluid do you recommend for the OD and what do you recommend for the manual portion of the transmission? I own an 87 C4 with the 4+3.
In manual book specifies 75W80 GL4, but I'm having trouble finding it, can I replace it with Amsoil 75W140?
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!
Thank you
Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Thank you for sharing this! I will be buying parts from you in the future!
Finding first is a pain with mine. It seems like i have a hair tolerance and sweep neutral multiple times before it can fall in. Once its in the up shifts are fine but without downshifting coming to a stop its a pain to grab first gear. Clicks alot while sweeping neutral.
Make sure alignment is spot on and that none of the bushings and springs are sloppy
@@GearBoxVideo Linkage bushings?
Awesome on the small important details! 👏👏👏
Paul, i have a Doug Nash 4+1 in my Chevelle with 2.73 rear end gears and 235 /60/15 tires. but in 5th gear at 60 mph I'm still pulling 3000 rpm. I bought it used 20 years ago and with no issues, I think it was in a circle track car. Question can i change 5th gear to be one to one?
5th gear is 1 to 1
Check the proper orientation of your fifth speed linkage arm
I love your videos I like to know how to install the Speedo gear on one video
First time watching I really enjoyed this
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I want buy one of these from you!
If you need a video idea, I’d love a walk through of WC/NWC electrical sensors/switches that plug into the unit. What do they do, how they work, and any other important tid bits you’ve learned about them over the years. Thanks for the great work on these videos and your book, they were instrumental in doing my rebuild.
I noticed on my cover, once it’s all set up, I can actually shift it into 4th then also into 1st gear at the same time. Is this normal? I thought it should never be able to shift in multiple gears at once. It will block any other gear combination and shifts great otherwise. 20lbs spring, OEM shift arms, autogear detent levers, OEM shift forks.
That would be impossible if the interlocks are in place correctly
Paul! do you have any content on the Toyota R150F mated to a 5VZFE. I have so many questions + concerns after having to get a rebuilt gearbox shipped halfway across the USA to put into my old gen1 Tacoma with 341k miles at 26 years on the original clutch parts... the local transmission shop that was well paid to diagnose FAILED to properly diagnose this gen1 Tacoma when it started having odd noises at 290k miles, they had no clue with my verbal description about when it was happening and what it was sounding like.. they just said nothing found everything in good working order.. when obviously it was NOT now the rebuilt R150F is having oddities that the original gearbox did not ever have that i recall after 1/4 century of driving this pickup any content created for the R150F that i can learn more and field some queries I have driven manual Toyota gearboxes since 1990 in 4 different vehicles, i don't believe any were the W58 presented here but i sure enjoyed learning about the innards from your excellent presentation MT or BUST 8^}
I do not
Thanks! My old Jerico was similar in construction so this was very helpful to reassemble it.
Thank you so much for your support. As much appreciated
Great instructional video. I ordered your book.
Thank you
I’ve tried this and there was one pin that no matter how hard I tapped it, it wouldn’t come out. The others went easy. It looked like it was almost apart of the gear. The punch would just smush the end more but not dislodge it. I ended up leaving it in the gear.
I loved this video, thank you for posting it!!!!
Do you have any videos on the srod rug 4 speed transmission? I can't seem to find any anywhere.
Pretty much the same as the top load of four speed except that the rail mechanism is different. I do not have any specific videos on the SROD
How long do the sealed bearings last until you need to put more grease in them? Or do they still get a little oil from the transmission through the ball bearing cover?
They still get oil. Ive pop seals off of bearings that had over 100,000 miles and they still look brand ne
Hey bud, if you rotate the mount bracket to left so holes to edge where vertical and use one hole closer to front of tranny the bracket would've been correct lol but who cares u made one pretty quick so what happend?
Maybe you don't understand. This is for a 32 spline extension housing that Hurst never made. The original bracket will not fit because the whole pattern is off. This simply replaces the 27th spline bracket with a 32 spline mount ability. There's no room to put a dual pattern on this because the bolts have to be countersunk. And a 32 spline extension only has three mounting holes
Where can I find the thrust washer your installing @ minute 14:02 in desperate need of name or part number
I do not know of anyone selling those. They do not go bad usually
Paul does a top-notch transmission build. However, I would like to know how A. Regular disappeared from the shop.
Wow! Great video. Thank you
Thanks!
Thank you very much for your support!
