    Well, good news and bad news for me. I just moved here. I guess the bad news is the mall here is dead. The good news is, I never went to Hanes Mall back in Winston-Salem, nor four seasons Mall back in Greensboro. So I'm pretty sure I never would have gone here anyway. Haha

    Robbing a jewelry store is just a Misdemeanor. Robbing a bank is a Felony.

    As someone who goes a couple times a year, I genuinely enjoy shopping at a couple of stores here: EntertainMART, Hot Topic, Spencer's, and Earthbound. Not in that order, I'd call those the best stores here, but that's just my personal opinion. HT is WAY better online and the location has been disappointing the last few times I've gone, but there's still something to be said about the experience and the aura of visiting the physical store. The games at TILT Studios break frequently and the attendants often have to run refunds, but they do have DDR, janky bowling, mini golf, and ski ball, as well as some other genuinely fun-to-play games. Not just a bunch of "get the ticket!" slop, which makes it an actually fun place to hang out with friends.

    Throwing in my two cents here to answer what you asked at the end of the video, there's a ton about Waco that is super cool. However, that being said, I've noticed that no one in the comments has talked about Chip/Joanna. Let me be the first to dunk on them. No local I know likes them or the Silos. While it is true that they brought in a bunch of tourism which has improved the culture/variety of activities downtown, they're also directly responsible for the highway expansion that has happened over the past couple of years (namely during the pandemic). Construction was so, so bad for a while. Other things too that I don't want to get into, but onto some cooler things about Waco.

    First of all, we have a BANGING local theatre scene. Silent House Theatre Co, Waco Civic Theatre, Far-Cast Theatre Co, Brazos Theatre (primarily does dinner shows/comedy), Jubilee, MCC, and (sigh) yes, even Baylor, put on some really great shows. I encourage you to check the websites of all the groups I just mentioned, in particular, Silent House and Waco Civic, to see if they're doing a show during the time you decide to visit. You won't regret it. Secondly, our public library system is great. There are four branches across town and each one has a slightly different catalog of books, audio books, and more to choose from. It's seriously underutilized. But if you'd rather go to a cool book store, Fabled downtown has you covered. A lot of Baylor students hang out there but they have good coffee and if you have a kid, their kids section is really cool. Then there's also Cameron Park, which has shaded, if a bit wonky, hiking trails. The mammoth site, which is free to visit and kills about an hour if you take your time. There's the Cameron Park Zoo, which is getting a penguin exhibit (open as of August 8th), and we also have the Carleen Bright Arboretum near Woodway, which is another great outdoor space. And a couple of miscellaneous things that I'd like to mention: Skellington Curiosities over on Bosque is a cool little curio shop that has a monthly outdoor market, similar to the Waco Farmer's market that happens every Saturday. We also have two skating rinks, and as someone else mentioned, Central Texas Marketplace, which is the big outdoor strip mall that many people claim is outdoing Richland. I think there's something to be said about the AC that Richland offers but yeah, I can definitely see what people mean when they say that CTM is winning out. I'd even go so far as to say it might be an objective truth.

    Lots of memories for me in Fashion Square. As well as Colonial Plaza Mall and Winter Park Mall. These were the haunts for me and my friends in the late 70's and early 80's. Colonial Plaza and Winter Park, being older properties, fell to the "town center" format which seems to be working for those properties. Much of Fashion Square's early success was largely down to being within walking distance of the NTC (Navel Training Center) which gave sailors on leave a place to go without needing a car or taking taxis. The closing of NTC in '95 meant a massive drop off in traffic for the mall and it has been a pretty steady decline since.

    I worked at a Richland Mall in the 90s at Wendy's, and I've visited it since I was a kid in the 80s. This mall used to have four movie screens, a pet store, several ice cream shops, two book stores (Walden books and B Dalton), radio shack, lots of restaurants, and just tons of fun stores. Yeah it was very brown until the late 90s remodal which went to this brighter look. They used to have trick or treating on Halloween, it was super fun going store to store ... Most big stores moved to Central Texas Marketplace.

    Life long Brunswick Resident here. IIRC the Glynn Place Mall was originally slated to open in 1985 - the columns at the center court had “1985” on them in Roman Numerals for a long time - they tried to speed up the construction after the Brunswick Mall burned under suspicious circumstances in September 1983. JCPenney was first to open in 1984 followed by the rest of the mall a couple months later. People would go to Penneys just to get a peek into the new mall as they were finishing up construction. The Embassy Suites and the theater came along in the late ‘80’s and K-Mart in the early 90’s. K-Mart was the last anchor to go into the mall and the first to close. Steve and Barry’s moved into that space and went under not too long after. More recently some of around here would refer to it as “Belk Place Mall” because of all the Belk outlets that had opened in former retail spaces in the mall.

    I used to go to this mall as a kid in the late 80's and 90's. It's been a very very long time. I see they carpeted it, which is weird for a mall. It's also brighter. That Pizza Place was there way back in the day. I'd get pizza then go to the arcade which was close to the food court. Good times.

  • @charlestonpinballarcade
    @charlestonpinballarcade3 күн бұрын

    If you are serious… Urban explanation cannot be legalized because you are going on someone’s property to view a structure. An urban exploration law cannot override the rights of a property owner. Even if the property is vacant and considered abandoned, ownership will first go to the bank if there is a lien. If no lien, the property will go to any next of kin and if no next of kin, it will eventually fall to the town or county.
