what is the size of the blank you started with? those aren't 2 x 4's. they look more like 2 x 8 or 2 x 10, glued 3 or 4 high

Unlike traditional varnishes, it is best to apply Halcyon on the thicker side. We recommend applying Halcyon around 4-6 mils wet. When applying the varnish, try not to overbrush the product otherwise the coating may be too thin causing the brush strokes to show. If you have any other questions, please reach out to our tech team. They would be happy to assist!

Other tips are all correct… better sanding.. foam brush etc but why brush at all? Invest a few bucks in a decent spray rig (make sure it can handle all finish types latex and solvent). Finally if you’re looking for A glass-smooth finish you may just need to build more coats and then sand back flat with wet/dry paper 400-600-1200 etc , a flat hard rubber and a lot of time and patience. Weeks not days Good luck.

Too much surface area. Your finish is drying while you’re brushing it. Thin it down, try again.

Go to an auto parts store and buy a paint cup gun. Hook it up to your compressor and spray the finish, let dry, sand and repeat until you have a smooth coat and appropriate thickness. Wear a respirator. No brush marks

Give the wood a good sand to start getting rid of the natural grooves, then use a foam roller to apply your coats. That or a stain brush, which is basically just a sponge on a stick

  • @SterlingsWoodcrafts

Humming Bird do not nest, we just call it that because it is tiny and cute, and looks the size of a hummingbird, it’s more for inside/Cover porch Deco, and skill building on the Lathe. Thanks so much for watching though, appreciate the question and support
