Trent & Allie

Trent & Allie

We're Trent and Allie (and Frank the dog), a couple of DIY'ers who spent 3 years traveling around in a van before we decided to buy some land and start building our own little home in the mountains! Come along for the ride to see how much of a struggle it can be to build your own house in some crazy conditions.

WE FINALLY BUILT OUR DECK!!!

Im just one patron but i cant believe how the level of waste has continued to increase. Be it poor planning or just change of plans there's just to much coming off the house and into the dumpster. Very frustrating ...

Try being in Texas if you think it's hot. It was already 80 at 5 this morning, and 79 was the low 98 % humidity. My glasses would fog up every time I'd go outside in the heat

I didn’t understand where the food came from, do you know them or are they trying to entice you to a new local restaurant? It looked amazing and I’m feeling hungry now! ❤

It's so fun watching you folks figure things out as you go. Allie, I bumped into some information on reversing Reynaud's by correcting the body's zeta potential. A Midwestern Doctor (very well respected but controversial MD) writes a substack blog called The Forgotten Side of Medicine. Please take a look at what he writes about zeta potential, this could improve your quality of life and immunity quite a bit.

Nice to see the deck on the garage taking shape. Might consider some sort of french drain system on the back on the garage to safely move the snow melt away.

Trent you are a perfectionist and I completely understand. I too like things just so. My husband was an all around handyman and he taught me so much. He’s gone now and I just bought my first home by myself. It amazes me the things I learned to do from my husband and how many things I notice that were done incorrectly. I am often overwhelmed and have a list a mile long of things I need to repair or correct; but I also know I can only do it a little at a time. We have faith in you that you, Brandon, and Grayson will get it all done in the right way. Remember no house is perfect and those little imperfections give it character and charm. No one else will notice those things anyway and that makes your home uniquely yours!

You're such a pimp, Allie. I mean that in the best possible way. You're always expecting the worst, super planning for any and everything, and you're astonished when it goes right. Ok, mostly goes right. Buying the house in town is an investment in so many ways. You had me convinced with more time with Joel. Allow yourself to be taken care of while recovering. Godspeed!

Why can’t u build the deck slope at the same 4 12 dimensions of the sunroom?

When you first built the original house did you have in mind the remodel of all of this plus the additions at the time? It seems like an expense to rip out the front windows and facade to do all of this---Glad to see Jason will do the bathrooms ---Leo is really growing up and it is exciting that Allie is getting close to the babies arrival---An exciting time for everyone !!

If there is one thing in this world I dispise its needing to do something twice. The cost in time, labor and materials is huge in a day and age of high costs and limited time. In the end I think, and hope, this change will be good for you but for me it's a nightmare. Wishing you the best and that your wallet is able to handle the costs to do so.

We are being played like a fiddle, Allies fiddle. I would suggest firing your architect, but it's not about making sense for you guys....I suppose it's about making dollars. And as far as KZread goes you are good at it. Are you going to drive Leo to school everyday in winter, I don't think so I think the house is going to sell. It must be like a nightmare to have such a sloped property.

Looks good ,but seems a waste of time ,man power and materials, could you not have done this before you built the front of the house. It seems that at the moment Trent you are going from one job to another before finishing, soon the snows will return and the back of the house and grounds will be running in water and you need to work there .

I hate plumbing. I will build a shower and tub in an annex with no plastic and drywall around. Use stone and lime plaster, ceramic tiles and tadelak and glas. Good solid materials!

What an effort! Must be a nightmare for Ally ripping the house apart instead building a nest... but it will make the building funktion much better in the end! All the BEST for house and people!

Can someone explain Why the entire front siding have to come off? Can’t you just take a couple pieces of siding off to put the ledger for the deck roof?

  • @GreenheartGal
    @GreenheartGal23 сағат бұрын

I missed something. Ripping off siding to increase window size? Can’t you just cut it in? (says the layman.) A sliding glass door would be nice access. Glad Allie will finally get shade and no snow dropping on the porch. Now, where to install that jacuzzi…😂

So i teach architecture and i have to say, you need to fire your architect. He needs to tell you no sometimes and give you real advice. Why didnt you just build to the left side of the home instead of behind it? Adjoining roof slopes have to match. And the list goes on. Do tou have a drainage plan to prevent water coming into the sliding left sliding door? Fire your architect. Its missing the most basic of concepts.

Not a mean comment but why work so hard to build the house only to tear it apart like that? All of the materials, and your labor to do it was a waste.

Like the ending, I don't know if it was on purpose or accidental but it almost felt like a perspective of Allie looking inward at life thinking of her husband and the kids and the way the house..... It was like a moment there it felt like I was looking at a Home video of memories and not an actual vlogger like a professional.
