    I went to his Clinic last week and he said his power comes from "good sequencing and timing". Can confirm that 'toe first' in the brace helps him keep his foot parallel and hips open. His foot is the handle of the Whip and everything moves up sequentially from there. He said his arm is very passive and the only arm strength he uses is just to keep the humorous 90° to the chest until the power pocket. The power comes from the ground up and he says his farthest throws are the ones that feel most effortless because his timing is near perfect. He recommended we do run ups into a brace without throwing just to get the feeling of stopping your momentum. This drill helps you sense the handle of the whip. Can confirm. He was throwing over 500 ft and it did not look like he was even trying.

    Always thought it was funny when people criticized my forehand throw 20 years ago for getting low down in a lunge like stance and propelling off my right foot for rotation like Eagle does. I was getting distance they couldn't and its great to see that Eagle is proving me right with nearly identical form. I can still put some out over 400' but as you age your arm slows and backhand gets easier on your joints.

    Along with Innova not having as much top talent right now (which we can see real-time how much that impacts a brand with MVP's explosion thanks to Simon and Eagle), I feel there are 2 other things plaguing Innova. 1) they lack consistency in their molds. This is the least of their worries in most aspects, and for a lot of people is actually a positive since some variation allows one to cycle multiples of the same mold to achieve different flights. However, this can also be a turn off. While I appreciate the variation now that I'm more experienced, this same variation caused me to be an Innova hater and steer clear of them for a few years when I was a newer player because I had purchased some discs that were supposed to be understable but were actually OS. And no, it wasnt just because of my noob noodle arm lol, all these years later I still have those discs and they are still overstable. While some variation is good, the variation has gotten to be a bit TOO much for some discs like the Destroyer. This leads me to point 2), which is marketing. Innova doesnt market themselves well and instead relies on reputation to sell discs. Their pros often get tour series discs that they dont even throw! Not only does that turn people off to buying the tour series run, but peoples view of that mold in its entirety goes down because a pro bagged it for like 3 months when the tour series disc was announced and then took it out of their bag. Additionally, i feel Innova could market their greatest strength, which is the ability for casual players to cycle discs both from the variations i mentioned earlier and through their wide range of baseline and "premium baseline"/midgrade plastics paired with their premium stuff. Pros can beat in premium plastic, but most rec players will never see their Star Teebird beat in to be a hyzer flip to slight turn fairway driver. They could, however, achieve that flight very easily with a DX Teebird. More molds in their Nexus, XT or KC Pro-esque plastics could be really beneficial too for people looking for the midgrade feel rather than DX. Innova has the best range of plastics and weights, and they fail to capitalize on that. Making cycling discs cool again rather than bagging several different molds could be big for them, and drive up repeat sales of their popular discs. It wouldn't hurt them to hop on the special release train either, that's where companies like Discraft and Discmania get a lot of their sales from. The other driver of sales is doing pro player disc lines, which i think Innova could do and would go further in improving pro satisfaction for being on team Innova, but choosing not to do that is a bit more understandable.

    The secret in any business is to join the flow of the niche & not go against the grain to compete. Don't be just one Brand become multiple Brands become the ultimate Manufacturer for Higher Quality products for All different companies. That's how you become Dominant & #1.

    one thing i think ppl miss is before he gets to the front leg he uses the back left knee by twisting it in/down it curls his arm out for him so he can be 100% loose and only at the last second explode out of the shot and onto the front leg as a brace not a mechanism of power imo but more balance which allows him to use his power properly

  • @jefjon423
    @jefjon4238 ай бұрын

    I don't think that should be thought of as an active movement, when you brace properly and allow the weight to transfer before starting your throw the left knee does that motion automatically. I think its more of a consequence of proper timing than something that should be forced.

    Innova is going to be just fine. Aside from the Swedish-made brands, I don’t see another manufacturer that is on this scale. Even the “inconsistency” of innova molds, I think, mostly has to do with the sheer quantities produced (plastic batches change, molds wear, seasonal changes in temp/humidity in the factories, etc.) Aside from that, they truly have been on the forefront of “innovation” in the game. I don’t throw much innova up to mids but for fairways and up I don’t see a better choice. If you lose one, you can replace it. Good F2 selection. Full lineup for any arm, etc. No issue with the other brands at all, the more the merrier, but Innova’s demise is being greatly exaggerated.

  • @guyincognito.
    @guyincognito.10 ай бұрын

    Being taller means your arms are longer which translates to more linear velocity at the end of a longer lever (your arm). That's physics and genetics.

    But looking at the brand switches by players, it is almost ALWAYS money-driven. And I get it. They are professional players and need the money. But it doesn't make the new companies discs better. Watching people I play with switch brands over and over again is absolutely hilarious to me. One week it's Discraft because "Paul McBeth is amazing." Then it's "I throw Discmania because Simon knows good discs." quickly followed with "Discmania was trash, so I've gone to MVP." LOL I threw Discraft, Innova, DD, Discmania, and Latitude 64 within the first few years I started playing. And for ME, it's ALWAYS been clear: For my play style and desire to shape certain shots in certain ways, I stick with Innova. My only exceptions are a 2006 Discraft Buzzz GT, I use Discraft Roach putters, and one of my go to discs for straight shots is a 2010 mold Discraft Stalker. And honestly, the Stalker and Buzzz GT are slowly finding themselves being left out of my selection as I continue to develop my game. People who follow what their favorite pro uses to play, I feel are really odd. Not like we can play like they do, otherwise, WE WOULD BE THERE WITH THEM! Play what works for you and feels right in your hands. Otherwise, you end up like one of the local players I know who has been playing 3 years and thinks spending nearly $4,000 on disc golf discs and bags and carts in that time frame is some sort of badge of honor.

    Go into any Innova Pro's bag or stash and you will find that the best disc was made between 1999 and 2004. It should say CE or 11x on it. The discs back then had style.

    I throw whatever disc works for me in certain situations. That's why my bag is mixed. I've been throwing an Innova Wraith in Champion plastic for years now. But I also throw discs by Dynamic, Lat 64, Westside and Streamline (MVP). Innova is how I entered the sport.

    Great video! Ive been pondering this a lot as a new disc golf player. It may sound stupid but, but ive been throwing rocks, apples, balls - you name it, to a ridocolous extent. All starting with the duty of walking the familys dog on a boring sandroad with plenty of rocks and surrounded by distant radiotowers nobody i knew could even dream of reaching with whatever you were throwing. Doing this five times daily for 12 years led to a lot of throwing stuff throughout life whether it being tennisballs on the beach or trying to outdrive golf players throwing golf balls down the fairway. Naturally, Im able to throw discs forehand almoat three times further than using backhand. But since noone seems to be doing it in disc golf afaik, i wad thinking i must focus on backhands only until i can outperform my forehand throws - something I doubt will ever happen. This video made me realize that maybe there isnt a right and wrong way for everyone, that its more about the right way for each and one in relation to their own skillset - and that for me maybe its not a bad idea after all to really focus on forehands mainly.

    I have the same hop i just developed it naturally. I never knew i was hopping for years until i filmed myself. Been trying to get rid of it and actually lost some distance. The downside of it is that because your back leg isn't anchored it can get out of sink with your "reachback" because essentially you have to leave the disc in place and hop away from it to move around the disc. It can cause you to fully extend quite a bit before your plant foot initiates the drive through so I've been working on delaying it. Current best is 509 ft.

    Spending millions on players just means millions to sell before making any money. If growth doesn’t continue to grow at a steady rate the companies that have big contracts to pay will be in trouble. I would imagine most companies probably don’t profit much more than $5 a disc. That means Discraft would have to sell 200,000 discs a year just to pay him before making a dime! Even if it was $10, which it probably isn’t, they would have to sell 100,000 just to get outta the red.

    I know Nate... but I disagree with the elbow coming in close to the body. Maybe for some people but I think the more lean your over while throwing the further from the body the elbow has to be. If you're throwing from an upright position, yes, closer elbow to the body is probably better.

    As soon as discraft and MVP start being sold in academy and dicks and all of the stores you see Innova and trilogy in, I think discraft will take the reigns. But MVP is crushing it right now with Simon and has awesome looking discs and lets be honest, when we all started we wanted the coolest looking disc we didn’t know what the numbers meant. Brodie Smiths reach has also propelled discraft, his videos got me into disc golf and he threw discraft so it’s what I gravitated to. And after finding Simon’s channel, Now I only throw discraft, discmania, MVP. Not that innova is bad it’s just not what I see being thrown by the big social media brand guys.

    Of course they can't and won't continue their dominance. There are so many more great players and disc competition. Paul is probably just as good or better than he was when he was on Innova. But now instead of having to beat a few great players, he has to beat 20 or more.

    First off, thank you for reaching out. A point that was not discussed in this video is perception of quality. I have witnessed a lot of chatter online regarding Innova's perceived lack of quality control. Personally, I have not encountered any issues. But, word of mouth is a powerful marketing tool and once a theme gets going it's hard to stop. Then there's the newbies arriving on the scene with lots of money and large marketing departments that play on that sentiment. One that stands out to me is LSD which was a million dollar plastics company that turned their craft to golf discs. They just copied the engineering and promote their products as being superior in quality. So that's one area Innova could work on. Their perceived quality. What I would like to see is a disc golf manufacturer that publishes velocity and flight affecting environmental data (like elevation) present when determining flight numbers. So I would know how fast I have to throw a disc in order to achieve the published flight characteristics. I swear that whom ever is determining flight numbers at Discraft is throwing them at about 80mph cause every disc I have from them is much more OS than the numbers would suggest. I envision being able to walk in to a disc golf shop, having my form and release velocity checked, and then having a set of discs selected for me based on my performance. Much like what happens in a ball golf shop when selecting clubs. Wow! what a service. So, be the visionaries that you once were. Make it less confusing for people to select discs. BTW, I couldn't care less which players are playing for which company. That doesn't affect how discs fly for me. At all.

    The Problem is Innova the top head Dave D he does not allow his sponsored Disc Golfers to use an agent to negotiate the contracts, this is the major problem that has the players leaving the team. That and even the top two levels of sponsored players do not much in terms of disc plastic other then to look though the warehouse, as even Dave can't help with runs or anything to narrow down what they are looking for, only formulations of plastics for the players. I honestly think Discraft will take over the slot soon, given they have the top disc for the UPA and the Current Pro league, as well as now back at number 2 in sales thanks to updating the site and the discs logos to have the flight numbers that Innova started to put on all discs in 2010 that now everyone still making or now making discs uses except a few PDGA approved crappy discs often sold only in sets in a easy to dent/warp basic plastic or a poor version of Champion/Z, they will pick it up.
