Total Seal Piston Rings

Total Seal Piston Rings

At Total Seal Piston Rings, we love engines, compressors and anything else that needs a piston ring. We work hard to improve the efficiency and longevity of that equipment. We do that by applying the science of Tribology (friction, wear and lubrication) to the pistons, piston rings and cylinders. Each week we will post new content that shows how piston rings can increase the performance of your engine or compressor.

Until the engines at temperature! Unless you plan on honing the cylinders while the engine is at operating temperature, a torque plate is worthless.

No matter what the topic, When Lake brings a video, its going to be great. Thank You Lake, All of the love in the world to you. Now to figure out of the new Mobile-1, 0W8 is a good oil compared to Pennzoil 0W16.. The cost is higher, but usually the addicitve package isnt as good as Pennzoils. Would love feedback on it.

Greetings from Concord, NC! Thanks for this video. I’ve recently gotten into the hobby of rebuilding old Suzuki race motorcycles and knowing they have a NikaSil coating, this info will certainly serve me well down the road if I should ever have to do any cylinder work. It’s cool knowing how the Plasma spray bore coatings work. I’ve learned a TON from your channel and your videos!! -Josh

Whats the longevity of this surface compared to current methods of honing that are being used and the difference in cost? The visual image in my head is the standard crosshatch doing better at containing a controlled amount of oil. Interesting process.

I've experienced seeing these types of liners during my factory training at BMW years ago with the Nikasil, and it also reminds me of the Honda B21a engine back in 1990 with the FRM (fiber reinforced metal) cylinders. Both were extremely smooth, definitely different looking to the naked eye, and almost no crosshatch at all. Oddly enough the Honda FRM would eat rings like crazy and you would have tons of oil consumption and black smoke once it got to a certain mileage, but I never did experience ring wear with the BMW's. Thanks for the detailed info about working with these liners. 👍👍

On a classic trucks site I belong to there's a lot of talk about lifters currently made for use in old school flat tappet cam engines being defective, going flat during break to 1000 miles. Many claimed they used zinc containing oils and or zinc additive. I've never had that issue in hundreds of engine builds, or cam upgrades. Could you do a video on this? By the way I was a NASCAR fan in the 70,-90s. Remember your dad won when he had his surprise win, front runners crashing near the end of the race with your dad weaving through to victory and giving JC the credit. Amen.

Working in a large fleet operation, 200 units, cars, SUVs, trucks from class 3 to class 8, I observed 1st hand the effects of 0- 5, 5-20 Each vehicle that the manufacturer recommends super light weight oils had knocks, rattles, changing to 10-30 stopped it all. Our fleet was made up of GM, Dodge, Ford, gas, and diesel engine cars and trucks in Colorado. Managing a fleet you get see the effects even before the manufacturer does.

Had a 1970 VW. the engine didn’t even have an oil filter. I think the oil change interval was 3,000 miles. The first rebuild occured at 133k and the second was at 240k. The crank and bearings were in good shape exhaust valves wore out, and that is why the rebuilds. Oil was straight 30 weight , usually Quaker State. I don’t think this was unusual for those engines.

Hey Sirs I purchased new let’s say 2022 Ford with 6.2 engine. Would it have been a good idea to drop the original oil at 5 odometer mileage replace with one of your breakin oils change filter run for 3000 miles ??? And if not just change out original oil before 1000 miles and use good synthetic oil and new filter ??? Excellent tutorials
