Cab ride around Anglia with route information of line speeds and level crossings added to help with anyone route learning.
These are made for information purpose only and not intended to be used as a training material.
All the videos are recorded while working and unfortunately I can only capture routes as I go over them but will add as and when I can.
My aim is to try and get the whole of Anglia and also create shorts of sidings and routes less used to help route learners and for people general interest.

Looks like some CWR going in along the haddiscoe new cut, I was told they weren't going to do that stretch due to cost and the flooding issues there. Great video really enjoyed it. I help look after the station gardens at somerleyton so was nice seeing them from a driver's perspective 😊
Yes, I saw them there as well. Hopefully, it will be replaced soon. You and your colleagues do a good job keeping the station looking clean and tidy and well presentable at Somerleyton it's always good to see
Why the DETOUR ?
I had to do this as I hadn't been over the route for awhile so I requested a drive over it to keep my current on the route
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck that explains it , just thought crikey he ain’t saving a planet 🌎 going that route thought when you left Ipswich you would go Woodbridge Blyth Lowestoft. Any way you got there safe and that’s always the main thing. Thanks for your reply. Take Care . 🚂
@kenboyooo Unfortunately we are not aloud to run over the East Suffolk line via Woodbridge during the day as we are restricted to 20 Mph over the route and would cause delays to the passenger trains, thank you for watch and you're welcome to ask more questions anytime
Shame can't see Romford Sidings from Romford Station. Great see from rail track
Just found your channle. GREAT stuff
Glad you enjoy them and thank you
Definition of a high speed train.
It’s a shame you’re only covering parts of the route with commentary - you may have covered it before but it’s offputting to those of us new to your channel
Point is noted and I will not skip the commentary if I make one like this again thank you for watching and raising this
Thanks once again. Very fine video.
Thank you very much
Norwich to Ely takes two hours!!! you could drive it in an hour!
@JL-rx6hl This was recorded on a tamper which runs at a slower line speed then the passenger trains
A very long-winded journey.
@petersharpe3186 being limited to slower speeds than passenger trains does mean it takes us longer to get places
I had looked forward to the route taken by the Easterling, Liverpool streeet to Beccles non stop then split to Lowestoft and Gt Yarmouth, south town,2 hours 30 minutes!
@daviddeniseskippings1054 I've been past the two remains of the bridges this week while on holiday
Just as a matter of intrest, there were three. British railway stations named after public houses. Bat & Ball in Kent (pub now closed, Berney Arms in Suffolk (pub now closed) and Portsmouth Arms in Notth Devon (status unknown)
I don’t get it! Why did you go all the way through to Great Yarmouth?
@thomassmiffie3132 I was due a refresh on the route or it would be taken off my route card
Excellent, once again. Thanks very much.
@phwbooth glad you enjoyed it
Enjoy yourself matey. Looking forward to future uploads.😊
@petertate8366 cheers
Enjoy your holiday, We've got freeman 23 on the Lanky 😊
@robertbrierley7083 enjoy
Thanks for all the videos you've given us, have a great holiday
@martyn6792 thank you
Enjoy your time off.
@tonywise198 cheers will do
Have a very good holiday.
@johnwiesen4440 thank you
And you thought your tampax machine is slow.
@cutter004 Max of 6 Mph its like being in one big worksite that never ends
Bridge looks pretty ropey!! Seems like not a lot of clearance underneath.
The clearance was 3 meters and the boat height was 2.75
Have a great holiday
Will do thank you
Nice one Matt, I need to learn Barking to Pitsea, so this is a massive help 👌🏻
can you imagine if cars and trucks etc had to slow to 15mph just to change lane...................................
@JL-rx6hl completely different machine's/Vehicles so you cant really comparer the both of them as the speeds are set over points for safety
Good video as always, nice bonus seeing the 37 hauled test train too.
We was lucky to capture it
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck you were indeed
I notice a member of staff at Tottenham Hale giving the driver a wave. It must be a nice moment to see a tamper go by - a bit of something different on the railway.
We get a few waves as we pass always happy to wave back or give a blast of the horn
Just started watching your vlogs and really enjoying them, I know those are train vlogs but being from the North it would be good if you could tell us something about the building's and sights you pass.😊
@robertbrierley7083 Thanks for watching and glad you are enjoying the channel, When I started this channel it was to help myself and other drivers with learning routes in are area of work but it has far surpassed this now and I have been asked this a few times now so I will have a look and see what could work
Why they had to put a bleeding Diesel behind Clan line what an insult to the Merchat Navy Preservation Society's years of running this superb loco without any failures in its history of running on mainline. 😮
@chrisfrost8456 am not sure but I think that it might just be standard practice now as a fail safe set across the board
Usually diesels are inserted into the consist to provide 'Hotel' services, i.e. electricity/heating to the coaching stock. It's also required by NR as 'insurance' against failure, as costs for delays and disruption to scheduled services costs a fortune, and it's the charter company that foots the bill.
Looked like line side bushes were covering a bunch of speed signs coming into Ipswich, is that pretty common or is something amiss there?
With the wet weather we have been having it is not unexpected but there is a team going round cutting back the vegetation
Great video .r u going to do one on the Acle route?
Glad you enjoyed the video. I am hoping to eventually capture the whole of Anglia so at some point hopefully I will do Acle
Did they put you through the Loop @ Temple Mills just for route learning purposes?
No we was booked in there so they could run a passenger train past us
When they designed this they didnt have the drivers comfort in mind did they, i would imagine if you didnt have ear protectection you woyld be deaf within a week. 😀
Yes it's not as nice as the passenger trains, you can feel the bumps in the track
Thanks for the videos, loving the content as it’s local to me 👍 keep ‘em coming
Glad you enjoyed them 👍
in the first 10 minutes what are the whistle sounds for?, no sign of track equipment.
That I believe is just different sounds you can hear as I can honestly say I only sounded the whistle before I moved at the start and not again till I had to which was much later on
Great video. They didn't hang about clearing the line for those passenger trains at the end, what a busy line. It would be great to see a walk round video of some of the on track plant, what they do and how. I noticed the mobile maintenance train had a "tail lift" side mounted, what was hiding in there, general equipment, or even a mini digger? Fascinating stuff and well produced, excellent!
@Rabchog am glad you enjoyed the video I am working on a more detailed one of the machines we use in Anglia but there is one on my channel already that gives you a basic explanation of what it does
@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck I've seen your video of the tamper working, another great video showing it in action. A few years ago I used to go to Whitemoor yard to deliver sand and pick up recycled ballast, I worked for Frimstone at the time. The High Output Ballast Cleaner was sometimes there, with it's self loading and unloading wagon sets. Also a Flash Butt Welder, which I believe is no longer used.
@Rochog I've not been up to Whitemoor Yard yet but I think I've got to move a machine to March in a couple of weeks so I will be looking to capture that and am currently waiting to see if there is going to be a change in tamping machines we currently use in Anglia before I make a detailed video on them
Loved watching this cab ride i wonder if they will extend the queen Elizabeth line one day beyond shenfield.via Colchester/southend.
@mitchellgiffard1978 thank you for watching am glad you enjoyed the video, you never know they might extend it that far one day
What a Fantastic Video More Please
As and when I can 👍
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck Looking Forward to them
What is the top speed you can to do?
The machine is limited to 60Mph
Great, but I do wonder what the point of this trip was!
It was a transit move as the machine had been working out of Romford at the weekend, but it then needed to be moved to Lowestoft, ready for it to work on the East Suffolk Line that night
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck Do you then return to London by passenger train? Thanks.
On this occasion we got a passenger train from Lowestoft about 06:30 in the morning before the move to get us to Romford in time to do the pre departure checks
Out of interest, why didn't you go directly to Lowestoft
I had to refresh to Yarmouth as I hadn't been over the route awhile. If I didn't, it would be taken off my route card
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck that explains it, a great video with plenty of looping etc
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck and those beautiful swing bridges
I was lucky enough to see inside of one last year and see the inside workings of it
No wonder the railways are in such a state if you have to do routes just to be allowed to do them! thats like telling a car driver "well, as you havent driven on the M1 for a while you are not allowed on it anymore" come on all you have to do is accelerate and brake, the signallers do all the hard work setting up the route for you!
The "Reedham single" track is a bit rough! I bit like the Isle of Wight, Ryde-Shanklin, which seems to be shingle rather than ballast in places. Nice long trip. Thanks.
@tonywise198 Glad you enjoyed the video and the Reedham Signal is a bit ruff to drive over, I don't think there are any plans to renew the track there any time soon
Thanks. Can you tell us why were you routed from Reedham to Gt Yarmouth and back, before you turned off to Lowestoft?
That what I was going to ask, for want of a better description why did you not go right coming out of Reedham?
I had to refresh the route as I hadn't been over it for a while, and if we don't keep up with our routes, then you can not go over them
6J90 by any chance?
Yes it was
My Granddad used to drive steam engines on these lines during and after the war, he had his train shot up by the Germans twice in a month either side of Witham. After he retired and they were changing over to diesel he said that it took him an hour with steam from Colchester to Liverpool Street and it doesn't matter what they do with trains it will always take an hour.
I bet he had some stories to tell about that
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck To be honest i barely remember, he's been dead for 50 years. But the Germans stuck in my mind and the time to London, plus he liked the winters more than the summers, too hot on a footplate in summer. I don't suppose you have so much trouble with Messerschmitt's now?
Haha I would be a bit worried if I had too, I have been told stories of trains being used as target practice for the American A-10's when they was based in Suffolk
As you come out of Romford station, What do those yellow painted line represent between the rails you was running on. Great video yet again from you. Many Thanks
@john45305 That is from the Network Rail Stoneblower it leaves a strip of yellow paint a set distance apart to mark where it is working
Excellent - thank you.
@30041946 Thank you for watching
The construction site at Cambridge South hardly a hive of activity! But then it's probably "Notwork Rail" (sic) we're dealing with here 😂😂.
@johnpinfold4413 Not to take anything from your great pun Notwork Rail👌but I believe it is Murphy & Sons who are in charge of construction there
Great ride, very interesting from Temple Mills to Stratford, a route learners paradise with the complex of differing options.
@rickmeyrick4357 Thank you for watching. I am thinking about doing a short video of just Temple Mills to Stratford and have more information in it.
At the end, those two passenger trains were really quite close!
Yes we ended up being in the way as we was meant to stay on the Electric's down to Gidea Park and then turn back but we was crossed over onto the mains early
Really enjoyed this one. Do you ever go Cambridge to Bury St Edmunds on the single track line? I've never seen a cab ride video of that one.
@ds1868 That is on my list to do at some point
@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ckthanks for that. Apparently there are plans to upgrade this stretch of line as part of East West Rail. No details yet though.
@@ds1868 Am not too sure I believe they are currently renewing the points at Chippenham Jn
