I remember travelling on Peterborough - Norwich services (Cl 31 + Mk 1 carriages) around 1980 that used the West Curve to avoid a reversal at Ely. Pretty sure the curve was double track then.

Had to get a map out to get my head around that. (I'm not familiar with the area these days - used to be in the RAF near Dereham)

As they are not used very often or at all by passenger services they are not known very well or are known but not really seen

I'm thinking the Birmingham-Norwich services in the late 70s also used the curve to avoid reversal

The curve looks like it was double track at one stage judging by track bed and bridge

@@AngliaCabRides-vv5ck If you look at the bridge and track bed, definitely double track wide, possible built for double track but only single laid. This was a really interesting video, makes you unique, not seen anyone else do anything like that

@martyn6792 Yes even though there is official route learning videos out there for drivers they just don't cover bits like this so from a drivers point of view they are a handy to view when learning or refreshing a route and for everyone else it's a chance to see parts/areas they wouldn't necessarily see
