For many product sense questions, we typically mention the user journey and its pain points. However, in monetization type questions, I'm curious why we don't need to mention pain points.

There are two kinds of problems, based on their origin. 1. Origin is Business: Monetization, Retention, ARPU, Activation etc. 2. Origin in Customer: Not sufficient sellers on the platform, bad UX etc. No customer gonna feel the need that I am not being monetized. Hence, we need not mention pain points in this case.

Good tips, except #7. Weird blanket statement that the easier the feature is the more complex it is behinds the scenes. Especially when working on a user facing team whose goal is optimizing a UI (like a lot of teams in consumer apps like FB/IG), introducing small features is relatively low effort, implementation wise. More effort is needed in setting up the A/B test, monitoring it during its run, and then analyzing its results.

Doesn't Facebook make money from the Ads in the marketplace? Shouldn't that be addressed in the example and maybe even be part of the north star?

Hi @dianna, thank you for the insightful content! I approached this case a bit differently and would appreciate your feedback. My market estimations are based on the general growth of the antique market in the US, from which I projected potential by taking 10% of this growth. I also considered two different segments: the first being individuals over 45 who invest in unique art pieces and other antiques from well-known, expensive artists; the second being the mass market, including interior designers and artists who make these purchases more frequently. My solution was similar but still different. Do you think this is the right path to take, considering there's no single correct approach to Product Sense questions?

If I were the interviewer I would ask Abhishek to cross check his original goal after he zeroed in on goods bought and items sold in his metric definition. That means the goal should be transactions

Hey Dianna, thanks for this! Super helpful. Question on the NS metric - curious why you chose # of interactions between buyers and sellers vs number of completed transactions? My take on this is a lot of interactions often go unanswered on marketplace or there is not continued engagement from either side which then makes one or both parties lose interest. So curious why you chose that as your NS metric?

What is the reasoning behind giving the average number of rides requested/week/rider (P2) a lower priority as compared to the number of cancelation/total number of ride (P1)?

This seems to contradict the earlier video on the framework to answer tradeoff questions. In the earlier video you went into the metrics of the actual products/features as part of the tradeoff. Then you identify the common metrics - number of social interactions and posts created. I believe going through the product and listing the metrics is a step to identify the common unifying metrics

Thank you for these I have slightly different opinion on the impact sizing and I get it that interview flow gives you the freedom to prioritize but if I could ask a Follow up question If you were to select buyers with intent to sell these people would at later stage sell on the same platform giving you continuous business. I am curious to know your thought.

I'm a bit confused on the prioritization of the segments based on success metric (ie TAM, Spend, etc).In the interview do you always pick three success metrics and carry out the scorecard to pick the best segment?

well.. bad assumptions "uber take 20% of rides.."...nope.. it can be up to 60%.. and then the solutions "prioritize matches for new drivers".. this one of the major complaining from long term drivers and then "hotspot map".. with out the algorithm giving priority to the driver to come back making money to its original place, it is also a horrible solution.

Yup, like other commenters have mentioned, definitely rehearsed, prepared beforehand and NOT a mock interview. At no point, he stumbles/takes time to think deeply. It's not like it's technical knowledge that you either know or you don't, it's an art. However, looking at the response (which is really good BTW), it feels polished. We need to see the un-edited version 🙂 I believe at some point I could see his eyes L-->R moving which may imply he's reading off of some notes

@dianna Shouldn't the North Star metric also depend in the stage of the company? e.g. a company that wants to be profitable should focus on revenue, whereas a growth stage company should focus on users acquired etc?

Hi Diana, What is the Northstar metric for IG stories? is it number of stories with >1 engagement per week? Also, when selecting users for this A/B? test, would we randomly select any user of Instagram, or would we filter down the user funnel for a subset of IG users (e.g., those who have viewed stories previously) first?
