Great video! Curious to find out if we should always do the prioritisation for buyers and not sellers in a 2 sided market? There seem be no explanation in the video why buyer is chosen over seller

thanks for the video - would be super helpful if you could put a summary/writeup of the framework/content in the description box!

Thank you for these I have slightly different opinion on the impact sizing and I get it that interview flow gives you the freedom to prioritize but if I could ask a Follow up question If you were to select buyers with intent to sell these people would at later stage sell on the same platform giving you continuous business. I am curious to know your thought.

Thank you for sharing another product sense example! I have 2 questions 1- is it bad to use different ways to prioritize users, pain points, and solutions (i.e. use chart with S/M/L for prioritizing users vs. picking top 4 for pain points)? and 2- How would you recommend prioritizing solutions so that we can dive deep into one of them at the end? Thanks!

Great questions! 1) it doesn’t matter so much as long as your criteria is clear. I had lots of painpoints and it would have taken forever to do s,m, L so I just prioritized the 4 highest painpoints 2) impact vs. effort would be your criteria points for solutions. Impact is how many ppl would adopt this and effort is our effort to build this

Thanks for the content Dianna. Two questions: How did you decide to categorize an auction house as a seller? How did you decide that buyers were higher priority than sellers? For context, while doing this problem alongside you, I named a 3rd category called market makers for the portion of the ecosystem on both sides of the transaction (auction houses + Online marketplaces).

Auction houses sell antiques so I just thought of that when asking myself what institutions or people sell antiques. Here the question was “help people buy antiques” so I naturally gravitated towards the buyer side. But I did come up with some solutions for the supply side as well.. usually I choose the side that needs more of a pull to create the flywheel

Thank you for this example! I had a question in terms of creating solutions. If you prioritize multiple painpoints, do you have to generate multiple solutions for each prioritized painpoint? In a limited time, it can be hard for me to come up with more than 3 solutions total but I like to also prioritize multiple painpoints so I am not constricted when creating solutions

If you prioritize multiple painpoints you’d want to come up with multiple solutions as well. Here I was showing for people who struggle to come up with more than 2-3 solutions for 1 painpoints they can prioritize a few painpoints so they’re not stuck with just a few solutions

Hi @dianna, thank you for the insightful content! I approached this case a bit differently and would appreciate your feedback. My market estimations are based on the general growth of the antique market in the US, from which I projected potential by taking 10% of this growth. I also considered two different segments: the first being individuals over 45 who invest in unique art pieces and other antiques from well-known, expensive artists; the second being the mass market, including interior designers and artists who make these purchases more frequently. My solution was similar but still different. Do you think this is the right path to take, considering there's no single correct approach to Product Sense questions?

Super informative. I believe the right user segment should be people buying for house or gifts. Collectors (hobbyists) will buy frequently but the market size of collectors will be very less compared to people buying for their houses. Hence, the frequency of buying by collectors will lag compared to the size of people buying for house

Exactly what I also thought. But if we prioritise them, then the bigger pain point becomes "What do I buy?" because even for home or gifting - people generally spend a lot of time deciding what to buy? "Trust" will be secondary problem IMO.

Thanks for the video, Dianna. If this question is asked in a Meta interview and the interviewer has already said that I am a Meta PM, can we still analyze and say that Meta should not build this? How would that work because the interviewer is expecting us to solve it for Meta? My second issue is how to choose between demand-side and supply-side? In this case, you directly focused on buyer, but aren't we expected to justify that selection?

If they explicitly tell you to build for meta than you’d go along with that. This was in the cases where it’s not explicit. The question was to help people buy antiques so it was the consumer side. But I did also include solutions for the supply side. If you wanted to fairly assess, ask yourself btwn supply and demand, which has the bigger constraint? For example for Uber, they struggle to get drivers retained and to sign up, hence you’d strategically prioritize that bc there’s rider demand as long as there’s sufficient supply

You didn't talk through opportunities section. For example, in the travel q you had listed researching, booking, acc etc as possible opportunities. Is that because the problem statement here is sufficiently scoped already?

Hi Dianna, if one of our clarifying questions was to ask if we were a Meta PM or not, would it still make sense to not build this for Meta?
