    FYI there are two more beautiful books in the tiny truths series. One is a book of Psalms and proverbs. The other is a devotional book for little ones. All three books are equally beautiful.

    Really needed to hear that last part on patience, thank you. My almost 7yo daughter despises our Teacher Your Child lessons- I am pivoting with more Charlotte Mason style, using colors and stickers and chopping the lessons in half. But thank you- I feel like you gave me permission to ditch the book if we need to. On the upside, she is IN LOVE with chapter book read alouds🙌🏻

    Oof we’ve all been there when it comes to lacking patience and I spoke from my personal experience. 😅 Yes the book definitely doesn’t work for everyone, so I can totally see the resistance in the sit down and power through kind of method for some children.i would have 100% ditched the book if it meant an easier time teaching her in a less formal way. You know your child best mama!

    This is very true and wise. Even in the country one has to be intentional about living life in a "disconnected" way and finding the joy of being present. I think comparison is what steals most people's joy and ability to just live and enjoy life as it is.

    I think in the past we lived with extended family much more. My grandparents lived with us when I was a kid for example (I'm 35). This gave balance to mothers. My parents help watch our son two days and we have a nanny at the house three days. I work from home as well but my job is pretty flexible. I don't start until after 930 and am typically finished with my work by 430. I stop up for lunch with my son and the nanny (who's awesome). I agree that being a mother has boosted my creativity and given me meaning that I could not conceive of prior. I feel blessed to have the balance I have at the moment. I'm curious what % of your household income you brought in. I'm bringing in just under half but we also get insurance through my job and max out or retirement and HSA contributions through my job. We could make it on my husband's income if we didn't have our high maintenance dogs (2 king Charles cavalier spaniels) and really lowered retirement contributions and health savings account contributions

  • @NivesScott
    @NivesScottАй бұрын

    First of, thank you for sharing such a thoughtful response! Absolutely regarding the extended family! Before we came to Canada my grandma was my caregiver when my mom returned to work, and as she got a job out of town, it meant I was on my grandparents farm 5 days a week and only saw my parents on weekends. and my aunts and uncles who were much younger than my mom also lived under her roof so i was well taken care of. That said i still missed my mom dearly and cried myself to sleep nearly every night. So in terms of finances, i was in a very similar situation to you. I brought in just under half, and health insurance (but I’m Canadian so a lot is public), was also under me as my husband is self employed, and a pension fund so i did forgo of a significant amount and benefits, zero doubt about that! But we are making it work, and i honestly couldn’t picture our life without this sacrifice, a life of not homeschooling my kids. I love that you have balance of family & work life, it’s so important, sounds like the dogs are more work than kids 😅!

    Just had a conversation with my sister who has a 6 months baby girl and she got very defensive when I talk to her about staying at home and maybe not going back to work in September ( in Europe we get a lot of time to spend with babies after birth.) I think she is scared of asking her partner for financial support or maybe she knows she won’t get it. They live under the same root but are not married ( probably not sharing bank accounts or anything) I wish more men would understand how important it’s for mothers to be at home during newborn and toddler times. Thanks for sharing this

  • @NivesScott

    My heart goes out to the mothers who wish to stay at home with their babies but feel that they can’t, or they are unable to. It’s such a common longing that we often push aside and convince ourselves is not the way to go, or is an impossibility. Raising the next generation is THE most important work in my opinion, and unless both people in the couple think of it that way, leaving the work force to stay at home would be nearly impossible.
