Vegan Jutsu

Style of no Style

Hello Everybody I hope you are well, I have dedicated most of my life to the training of Spirit and the Way of the Universe. We are not Binary but Quantum beings.

I started many years ago on facebook and myspace, and then to Instagram, I had this KZread account for years I like to watch scientific podcast, and also speed running of Pokemon Games.

Recently I had a desire to make longer than the 60 seconds videos of instagram, so I posted what I do on IG here to the KZread, some things I enjoy to create content about are:

Theory and Observation
Traditional Training
Mixed Martial Arts
Vegan Fitness

The Universe is inherently chaotic, but nothing happens by accident.
It is the power of the Universe that guided you to this channel, and what you might discover has always been within.

Kind Regards,

I liked your well thought out breakdown of the hooking capabilities of the kama. I think one of the main issues is that most people's first instinct, who are unskilled with a kama, is to use it similarly to how the spike of a tomahawk functions. They're trying to bury the blade deep into their target like a spike rather than hook, grapple, and poke from a medium to close range distance with various wrist action. The way I see it is that a kama's intended use is to function more like a forward facing karambit with the added benefit of more reach. I personally would still like to see a folding variation of the kama (or Katsu FS01) which has a stronger more reliable lock capable of deep penetration similar to how a spike would perform, yet also have the quick deployment and fast-in-hand capability to hook and grapple at closer ranges. I've been seeing several of the Katsu FS01 locks fail in videos under that type of use but that added utility of reliable penetration would make it be the best of both worlds. I also liked your comparison of the Katsu to the Cold Steel Espada. The Tri-Ad lock of the Espada is for sure much stronger and more reliable than the Katsu as far as I can tell from other videos and from what I've experienced with use of my own Tri-Ad knives. The lock is a big potential point of failure especially where one could become unlucky in a fight like you said and have the lock fail. I have to give that advantage to the Espada. I'd still argue that the Tri-Ad lock is the strongest lock you can possibly get in a folding knife, even beating out Cold Steel's newer Atlas lock, which I've seen fail under less stress than that of which I've seen Tri-Ad locks endure. I will say this though about the Espada's back lock placement on the handle, I had bought one years ago and realized that when I took a very tight hammer grip high on the handle that my hand would slightly disengage the lock while swinging the blade. I could tell because I could feel the blade rattling around slightly. With a blade that big and sharp that kinda freaked me out and concerned me enough to send it back because the Tri-Ad lock is no good if it's disengaged by my grip! I ended up going with the Rajah II, which is the next best thing and with which I don't have that issue. That's really my only gripe with the Espada, although that's a major design flaw, and I wish Cold Steel would address that with a better designed back lock placement. As far as the kama striking first though like you were explaining in your video, that is definitely true in a normal grip and slashing position and orientation of the wrist like you've displayed, but think about this. The Espada's oversized handle, as well as most Cold Steel tactical folders, are designed to be gripped extremely far back on the rear of the handle. You can maintain a pretty secure grip with only 3, or even down to 2 fingers, gripping it more like in the orientation of a pistol with the tip forward. So if you orient the blade forward more in a thrusting, tip-forward orientation with even just a normal, further back, full grip on the handle, then the Espada actually has more superior reach and standoff distance than the kama. With that in mind consider trying this: Hold the Espada in one hand far back on the handle and the Katsu in the other hand. Extend both arms straight out in front of you and tilt your wrists forward fully extended. In that position the Espada most definitely has superior reach. You can also slash or even chop with quick flicks of the wrist from this position. At least with my Vaquero, which is my favorite blade, and Rajah II this is possible (I prefer recurve blades, can ya tell?). Although, the Espada may be too forward heavy to comfortably do it. This is why I think the Espada has superior reach, and that's a huge deal and another advantage to have in equipment, like you also said. Not to mention that the Espada is a big honkin' heavy blade that has shearing potential to easily lop off limbs. But that advantage of range alone can make it superior and win the fight. That's also the obvious reason why guns have become generally more superior than edged weapons, because of their effectiveness at longer range. A weapon with more range is always good and typically a better thing, unless that distance is closed the weapon's defense is bypassed. For instance with something like a spear it begins to lose its effectiveness at closer ranges. Although, I would still say that the kama has superior offensive and defensive capabilities over the Espada at closer range and grappling distance because of all the good points you made about the hooking angles.

@katarr2558 I'm not sure anything could beat the Espada I love that knife so much. Perhaps an up scaled version of the folding kama, but like you say the espada is hard to beat the weight and range. Thank you for the comments friend

Excessive movements, awkward cutting angle, required momentum to be able to gain the force to cut, unavoidable telegraphing of attacks, lack of armour precision due to balance which would mean against armour you would be relying on its armour piercing and extra force (which exasperates the above issues), not to mention the bad starting stance which while great for defence, sure, for launching attacks its very inefficient. So yeah, while it can kill someone, when presented with quite literally any other weapon, its fucking dog shit. I wont deny the cool factor, but in practicality? Nope.

The European Great sword was intended for foot combat, while the Tachi, Odachi and or Nodachi was a horseman's weapon and predates its shorter cousin the Uchigatana which was designed for infantry combat. The Tachi was worn edge down while the Uchigatana was worn edge up. The reason for the Tachi being worn edge down was so the curvature would not interfere with controlling the horse. The first Samurai were calvarymen and mounted archers before they became foot soldiers.
